We were in the area and decided to have Big Dave's for lunch. The space is small, but they have a few tables inside that you can sit and enjoy your meal if you choose. You walk up to the counter and place your order, we were the only ones there at the time so ordering was fairly quick. The young lady that took our order was polite and patient with us while we decided what we were going to order. I ordered the steak cheesesteak Dave's way with no onions, and added mayo, lettuce and tomatoe. They have a few items listed for dessert, but we were told that they were out of the banana pudding at the time. Our food was cooked to order and was piping hot when we received it. They placed my lettuce and tomatoes in a separate container which I'm grateful they did, because the lettuce was old and had a brownish tint to it. The cheesesteak was cheesy and really good. As I was eating I just noticed how dirty the place seemed. Although the staff were nice on their downtime every one was on their phone. I think they could have used that time to clean off the sticky tables, swept and mopped the floor etc. Everything just looked a bit dirty. Service was decent and fast, the food was freshly prepared and tasted great. Sanitation was a 96, not great but not bad either. Just a joint in a shopping mall. Limited seating. Friendly staff that explains the menu to everyone ordering. The Philly steak sandwich is what you get! Chopped steak on a bun with 3 cheeses and mushrooms. You can get chicken or salmon if you are adventurous. I had the Classic and it was tasty and filling. We ordered the Dave's Classic minus the cheese whiz but asked for it on the side. The steak sandwich was huge and full of meat but the sandwich honestly lacked flavor. Meat wasn't seasoned at all and interesting enough, could barely taste any cheese. It was visually there but again the sandwich lacked flavor. Very bland. I placed an order online for pick up. The online ordering process was easy and efficient. It's located in the Harris Teeter shopping center on UC BLvd. Great busy location easy to find. Small inside but they do have inside seating. My order was ready when I arrived and the server was friendly. I live no more than 10 mins away. When I opened the cheesesteaks the wrapping that they use to pack the sandwiches were stuck to the bread and it was extremely soggy. I had to peel the foil/paper lined wrapping off of my bread. I put them in the air fryer to dry up the soggy bread. The fries were soggy too. We ordered the beef and the salmon cheesesteaks. Even with the soggy bread, they were full of flavor, packed with meat and cheese overflowing. I will go back to give them another try but plan to eat inside. Finally got my hands on a philly cheesesteak. Not bad. I ordered the Dave's Way Beef in a 6-in combo. Comes with the hoagie, fries, and a drink. They have soda, lemonade, and bottle teas. My sandwich was the ribeye chopped cheese (3 cheeses but I didn't want any whiz) with sweet peppers, mushrooms, onions, and banana peppers. I had no onions and wanted the banana peppers on the side. Sometimes I don't want them in every bite. But they forgot my side of banana peppers. The size was cool, I always can only eat half at a time with half the fries. However there was more bread than meat. Flavor was cool, the quantity of the meat to toppings ratio was cool. The fries were fried to perfection and have some seasoning on them. The crunch on the outside, soft in the middle was perfect. Wish they had a special dipping sauce instead of regular ketchup packs. I can't believe this is the same place I was waiting over a year to try. After seeing a video on Instagram, I've been wanting to try this place for so long. I got the 6 inch classic Philly cheesesteak with beef , I got it with all three cheeses. The meat was terribly dry, and there was barely any cheese (I recommend asking for extra cheese). It tasted like someone bought steakums and just cooked it at home. The service was a little poor, they had one girl giving takeout orders as well as doing the orders, and it seemed that she was extremely overwhelmed. They offer cheesesteaks with chicken, beef, or steak, and you also have the eggroll option. The side is seasoned fries, and they have banana pudding and a "water ice," which is similar to Italian ice but softer. I got the chicken eggroll meal, which came with the sweert chili sauce, seasoned fries & a drink for about $15. I usually order cheesesteak egg rolls but tonight I tried the regular cheesesteak Daves Way and was highly disappointed! My son also had the cheesesteak and was disappointed as well. The cheesesteak lacked cheese, they did not add the lettuce like we asked and our fries seemed to be "recooked" in old grease. I ordered cheese fries with the cheese whiz on the side and they put it in a box and not a container. This will definitely be my last time at Big Dave's...$42 down the drain! I saw this place on Facebook and decided to give it a try. When I walked in, I was greeted by the entire staff in a friendly manner. I liked the fact that the restaurant was clean and tidy. I placed my order without knowing how the food would be. I'm from up North, so I know good cheesesteaks. I ordered a classic chopped steak, onions, sweet peppers, banana peppers, mushrooms, all three cheeses, fries, banana pudding, and a dragonfruit fountain drink. On a scale of 1 to 10, the banana pudding is a 4. It was mostly whipped cream and cookies. However, the food I ordered smelled great. I don't like cold fries, so I ate those on my way home first. They were so good and had the perfect amount of seasoning. I arrived home and ate the sub, and it was the best cheesesteak I've had down here. I've had them from various places in Greensboro, High Point, Winston-Salem, Raleigh-Durham, and so on, but this sub was by far the best and seasoned to perfection. Their subs are a bit pricey compared to where I'm from. Our subs are much larger, meatier, and cost less than what Big Dave's charges. We ordered all cheesesteaks at the same time although I was planning to buy all steaks. My uncle placed his first. Big Dave, which consist of banana peppers, sweet peppers, onions & cheese. My mom got a chicken Cheesesteak with onions. I have two different beef cheesesteaks. Steak #1 I ordered steak with cheese, onions and extra mayo. Order #2 ( mine) is beef steak with onions, American & provolone cheese. I asked if they could grilled pickles in the meat. The employee quickly said ewww. No, pickles are cold. So the guy on the grill said we can add them. Now, I'm mad. This is the second steak place I have gone to and when I request pickles on my steak it is a issue. Any other vegetables ( tomato, lettuce, mushrooms, etc) is accepted without any verbal response. Steaks came out together and we decided to dine in. I am immediately angry because the American & provolone with pickles should be mine. Clearly marked American & provolone. Steak #1 is for my man so I'm not opening it immediately. Opened mine and it is exactly as I wished. Within 10 minutes of us arriving it went from us four ( the other patron waiting to about 10 other patrons entered at the same time. My husband and I finally made it over here on a late Wednesday afternoon. It's next door to the Harris Teeter on University Blvd across from UNCC. Because they are so close to campus I hope they offer a student discount. Not the least expensive food in the world BUT it's not thrown together fast food either. We waited 20 minutes for our order and it was all fresh. Steady flow of customers while we waited indicating to me it must be good. Black owned restaurant. Got the chicken Philly cheesesteak combo meal. Nothing special about the fries. Cheesesteak was good. Also got a couple Philly beef egg rolls. Regular egg roll size for about $6. Those were good too. This place used to be Subway so there's not a lot of seating. Most folks were taking their food to go and using the tables to wait for their orders. The cashier was great. I think her name was Kam and it looked like she may have been in training but she was so pleasant, seemed to know a lot about the menu (she was able to answer all of our questions and give recommendations). They have Pepsi products. I gave 4 stars because the dining area was neglected. I'll definitely try again and see if there's a difference. Good customer service means a lot to me. read more

Went in on a Friday afternoon and was the only customer there until another arrived after me. Service was friendly, but it was a bit loud in there, and the workers were sort of mumbling so I had a bit of trouble understanding what they said. I was a bit shocked at that price point, but was determined to try this cheesesteak. Now, I'm not from Philly, but my family grew up there, and I grew up right outside the city. I have to say, I was really rooting for this place, but alas.. like most southern cheesesteak places, it just missed the mark. The fries were seasoned, but they were crinkle cut (and I believe a bit undercooked). The onions were diced fine, but despite having so many, the cheesesteak somehow was still missing that fried onion flavor. The amoroso roll was what gave me hope, but it just was plain mushy. Somehow the cheesesteak tasted... sweet? Something was off there on that flavor. At least the meat was finely chopped (instead of the sacrilegious... sliced *shudder*). I just felt "meh" about the whole meal. So as a cheesesteak aficionado, I have been wanting to try this spot out for a while. However, when I first visited the opening week and a couple of weeks afterwards, the line was literally outside, so I decided to keep it pushing. Fortunately, I was in the area a couple of days ago and lo and behold, the line was only right to the inside of the front door, not outside lol. So I decided to give it a go. First, let's be clear. If you are not interested in cheesesteaks and eggrolls, there isn't much else for you on this menu. Pretty straightforward with three or four versions of cheesesteak including a salmon cheesesteak that we actually tried. I'll get to that later. They also have a couple of handmade eggrolls. You can get fries and a drink and that about wraps it up for this menu. I ordered my cheesesteaks to go, so I can't comment on the in dining room experience, but I can't say that it is likely better to take this to go. There were maybe four total tables and every single table was being used by people waiting for their takeout order. Now onto the food. In terms of cheesesteaks, I would definitely rank Big Dave's in the top tier of cheese steaks that I have had before. Probably eight out of 10 with the only drawback being the bread, I thought it was not as fresh and supple as I would've preferred. I'm also not a big fan of the combination of cheese whiz, American cheese and provolone , which is the Big Dave style, but you don't have to get it that way. That being said, the sandwich itself was really well proportioned and the taste was authentic. My lady really loved the salmon cheesesteak, as she initially didn't think that Big Dave's was an option for her given her focus on healthy eating. However, she scarfed this thing down and later commented that the calories probably weren't a Bullseye for her but everything else was. Lol. Last thing about Big Dave's and this is pretty typical for most spots nowadays, but this is not a cheap sandwich. I think they have a 7 inch and 12 inch version and both versions will set you back double digits. This is the best cheesesteak I've had outside of Pennsylvania! I give it a 8/10. 1 point deduction for using Primo Hoagie roll. 1 point deduction for lack of flavor and juiciness in the beef. But I knew it was going to be good because Cooper Sharp cheese was on the menu as well as sweet peppers. The service was good and only waited about 15 mins. There are a few tables in the restaurant. Was excited to see this place open nearby... Ordered a #2 Philly cheesesteak after finding out the chicken was ground chicken. There was a line waiting for pickup, so I went outside to wait. Came back in and saw people who ordered after me getting their food. I walked up to the counter with my ticket and tried to ask the woman if my order was ready, she looked right past me and turned around to do something else. After another 5 minutes a man came over with much better customer service (maybe the owner or manager?), and come to find out my food was in fact ready... The taste of the food was good, I realized I like my bread toasted vs super soft... but the food flavor wise was good. Value was terrible. $17 for the 10 inch with hardly any meat. Didn't try the fries since the drink machine was down and they were only selling cans with the combos. I don't understand why it's so difficult. Season the meat, don't dry it out, chop the cheese into the meat, and make sure the onions are cooked. My cheesesteak was dry as Melania. The cheese was clumpy, and half the onions on there weren't cooked long enough, so they were half raw. Look at a picture from Angelo's, John's Roast Pork, or any of best cheesesteak spots in Philly. See how the meat is glistening because it's all coated in the cheese? THAT'S how you should want your product to look, every single time. The best ones I've had are Big Dave's and Queen City Cheesesteaks. I usually eat the chicken or the salmon and they both have them. I was in Atlanta a year ago and drove all the way to Big Dave's to try their salmon cheesesteak and they didn't have no salmon that day. I was so mad it wasn't even funny.
