We went to this place to give it a try. The location and atmosphere is nice, it feels you are somewhere else in the countryside. Staff were friendly, waitress was alright. Busy day after a storm, food came to us in an appropriate time, we had different types of omelettes, and order home fries as our side, omelettes were good, however the home fries were extremely salty, uneatable, we told the waitress she said ok, when we went to pay we told that person, she said oh yeah that happens, I thought she didn't hear me, I said again, she said yes it happens. No an apology, not a I will let the cook aware, nothing. For that 2 stars. My opinion didn't matter to your staff. An apology could be enough. I know your line of people is long enough to care for loosing us as clients, but some people have health issues and this type of things could be avoided. read more

Meh. I don't get the hype. I've been told so many times that I HAVE to check out Big Ed's for years. I finally went and sadly I was disappointed. Their food isn't AMAZING but it's ok. I've definitely had better southern breakfast before. I know people are big fans for their hot cakes. Yes, they are huge but to me they were too doughy. Credit for slooowly improving; my third visit today was the best so far. The food quality just is not up to par with the original or North Raleigh locations! Stick with pancakes or omelets. I got "adventurous" and ordered the fried Cajun chicken breast... and it was a Tyson chicken patty. I regret not having gone to Bojangles. Don't make that mistake. read more

Was in the area looking for breakfast. Had eaten at original Big Ed's so thought we would try the newer location. Was greeted and seated immediately. Ordered coffee to start and found lipstick on rim of mug. Waitress replaced when notified. My wife ordered an omelette with cheese and mushroom. Surprisingly the mushrooms were canned which have a distinctly different taste. My wife was disappointed. I ordered a sausage and cheese omelette with side of grits. Waitress said that was a good choice as they are creamy. The grits appeared to me as being prepared with water so not as creamy as expected. Also did not feel omelettes were fluffy. Friends have been telling us we needed to try breakfast at Big Ed's, but we live almost an hour away. This morning we were on our way to the beach and would pass nearby... So glad we did. The menu has so many of my favorites that it was hard to choose. Went with the scrambled eggs and pork brains, grits with red-eye gravy, and a biscuit (which I smothered in molasses). Pure breakfast heaven. My wife enjoyed her French toast and local spicy sausage, but it couldn't possibly have been as good as my eggs and brains! I've tried Big Ed's two times now. The restaurant is open, airy, and clean. Big Ed's in Garner shows its heritage by offering very good service for a new restaurant as well. On my latest visit, I ordered a western omelet which was really good - it was warm, the cheese was gooey, and the home fries were hot. The biscuit was cold. My companion ordered the pancake, which was ginormous. It was probably 14 inches in diameter! Unfortunately, it arrived at the table cold. When our server checked in on us, we mentioned that the pancake was served cold. She took it back and returned with it a few minutes later letting us know that they put it back on the grill and cooked it some more. Setting aside any potential sanitation issues of putting partially-eaten food back on the grill, cold pancakes don't improve with extra cooking. It went from being cold to being a disaster. All in all, Big Ed's Garner is OK, especially for a new restaurant, but Garner is a tough market for country-style restaurants. If Big Ed's expects to survive in Garner it needs to quickly up its game if it has any chance to become a credible, lasting alternative to Angie's, which is near by, offers better food, similar prices, at-least-as-good service, and an incredibly welcoming environment. read more

My husband and I are from Iowa, and we had a favorite diner back home. We tried Big Ed's as a comparable place to eat, and it hit the mark! It's a very friendly, casual environment that we found to be perfect for brunch. Their amazing, huge pancakes were big enough to share! Super impressed with my experience here! I went here on a Saturday and there was a sizeable line extending outside the building to be seated. The line moved very quickly and let me tell you it was definitely worth the wait! I got a bacon biscuit, turkey sausage biscuit, and a order of the home fries. Everything tasted sooooo good and you definitely get your money's worth lol the service was excellent and the waitress checked on us multiple times. I will most definitely be back. read more

After hearing the hype about this place from my husband and son, I was looking forward to going and eating there. I ordered an omelette. It was like warm at best. The coffee was the same. Me & my father have been coming to this location for yrs. Today we came in for a meal since we hadn't been in a while. We came in & it took a little while for someone to greet us but hey since Covid started I know some places are understaffed so I can let that go. After being seated one waitress cleaned off 2 tables & never acknowledged our presence, she even went & got change for the table behind us so that means she walked by twice & never even said hello. I took my wife and daughter here after church Sunday for Brunch. We all enjoyed it. My daughter and I had French Toast and grits. I had an egg over easy with Hot Sausage. My wife got an omelette with ham and cheese. All of it was great. The decor was awesome, made me feel like it was when I was younger eating at the country store or country diner. Went in with a party of 3 for breakfast. Gina, our server, was awesome...very friendly, had great recommendations for food, and very attentive (personality plus). We had French toast, Cajun fried chicken with eggs (medium) and bisquit, and Western omlette adding jalepano, hash browns with fried onions and a sausage patty bisquit. The food was thoroughly enjoyable, and Gina rocked the recommendations. Looking forward to our next visit when in town. Not the worst place I've been and a good majority of their food tastes pretty decent but, I'm pretty big on pancakes and was super excited ordering them here. When I received them, I was thoroughly disappointed. There wasn't much taste at all and were mostly flat as opposed to fluffy, kind of like cardboard.
