Two egg breakfast with everything bagel.

"Best bagels in North Carolina," says the sign. I won't disagree - my everything bagel with cream cheese was crunchy, chewy and delicious. It's a narrow shop with walls covered in photos of customers and plenty of seating on four-top tables. I placed my order with a lovely young lady who brought it my seat a few minutes later. A good portion and hot. Definitely a worthy breakfast and a great bagel. And proper bagels are rarely this good in the South, or really anywhere that isn't New York (or New Jersey).

I had been craving a lox bagel and found Big Steve's Bagels. They are located in the food lion plaza in McGees, so plenty of parking is available. When you walk in, you can tell the place is loved by the owners as well as the patrons. We were helped right away, the menu is posted on the wall and easy to see. You can dine in or take it to go, which we opted to go home since we are down the street. Half of my lox did not make it home because it was sooo delicious! The bagel sandwiches are definitely huge, I couldn't unhinge my jaw wide enough to get a whole bite. I will definitely be back and recommend to those looking for bagel breakfast! However, they do sell other things such as desserts. --/edit: this location is now a NYBD!

These are the best bagels around. Use Big Steve's Bagels for your next office meeting or for your next event, large or small.

The guys from Staten Island, and this is pretty much what you get in New York. Delicious! I always get a bakers dozen (which is about 15 bucks) and come home, slice them up, wrap them up with some saran wrap and take them out of the freezer in the morning and throw them right in the toaster. You don't even need to defrost, you just throw it in the toaster and it's just as good as if you're there. Being, I'm from New York, this was a golden gem of a find.

Great bagels and staff. Always try to get over here for breakfast whenever I have the time to get over there.

Probably the only good deli in Smithfield. The tuna melt is delicious. The hours are odd so do check before going!

My husband and I had bagel sandwiches here about a week ago and they were very good. Fresh ingredients and fast service. We will be back.

Just last week on Jan 13th or 14th..... it was 730am. The door was locked. I see someone clearly back there behind the kitchen doors. It sucks because now I don't feel like driving down anymore. I have been recommending this place to everyone too. Customers shouldn't have to call ahead of time to see if you're open during your normal hours of operation. Great food though. A successful restaurant requires consistency, and unfortunately for this business, it isn't consistent. Damn shame.

Kim, the clerk, was super friendly, made recommendation, and was efficient. The menu is pretty flexible, you can get anything how you want it and the prices are super reasonable. They serve breakfast and lunch. Food came out quickly. I had a Southwest Breakfast Bowl with bacon and eggs over easy. It also comes with potatoes, cheese and chipotle sauce. The bowl was hearty and delicious with perfectly cooked eggs. The chipotle sauce provided a little kick. The coffee is good, too! The dining room is colorful and lively. There is a tv and restroom facilities. The strip mall has limited and tight parking. I loved this little place. I'll be back.

Conveniently located in the center of Topsail Island, it was a 15-minute drive from our 2022 Airbnb stay. With next two stays at Saltwater Suites in 2025, the drive was less than 5 minutes. In the three stays, we had breakfast here six times. It had everything we wanted. My son and I are sticklers for routine. In the first four visits, we ordered the same thing: 2 scrambled eggs with toast & home fries for me, and pancakes for him. Orders were placed at the counter. Then we went upstairs to the dining area and waited for the orders to be served. There were no issues with the order, food or service during these visits. In both 2022 visits, I had coffee; in both 2025 visits, I had Mountain Dew. Refills are free for both coffee and soda. My order tasted better than a similar one I had at Tick Tock Diner in New York City. It was great value for money. I always felt that I ate enough to last me through lunch. There was no reason to try anything different. Unlike Tick Tock Diner, NY Corner Deli did not have any TVs in the dining area. I appreciated this as we go to the beach to get away from the world. Furthermore, there weren't many people in the dining area whenever we were here (before 9am). Can't speak for the dining experience at any other time of the day. Things were slightly different when we visited in 2026. Pancakes were not available, so son had french toasts in both visits. In the first visit, I ordered my usual; in the second visit, I tried something different and ordered western omelet (with toast & home fries). Don't let the photo fool you. The western omelet was bigger than it looked. "Hearty" is an understatement. It was so filling that I skipped lunch and had a light dinner. Mountain Dew was no longer available as the establishment defected to Coca-Cola, so I had Coke Classic both times. If you like a decent breakfast and a quiet atmosphere, New York Corner Deli is the place to be. It will continue to be our breakfast place whenever we are in the Topsail / Surf City area.

The walls are covered in black-and-white prints of the Brooklyn Bridge, sepia-toned yellow cabs, and metal street signs screaming Broadway and 5th Ave. The seating is divided into two thrillingly average, non-beachy options: Upstairs or Downstairs. Both levels feature the exact same standard-issue, wobbly metal diner chairs, with vinyl tables upstairs. The menu is an everything menu, nothing specific, no specialties, consider this a one stop shop for anytime of the day. It serves up a breakfast that is heavy, completely unpretentious, and designed to fill you to the brim. Like the rest of the menu, it doesn't aim for culinary innovation; it aims for maximum density and they are open when everyone else is closed. By the time you scrape the plate clean, you are utterly, heavily full and ready to take on the day. Cheers!
