The NASTY woman taking the order for the lunch sandwich yelled at us saying f the grill is clean! Really? Needless to say, the sandwich went out in the garbage. Ms. NASTY WHISPERED to the young man hyped up something and you see what I got. Not even 3 slices of meat. I am so disgusted. "Big Steve" never should have sold his wonderful family business to this company! They are Not people friendly. And the food obviously by this picture is way below sub par standard's! "Best bagels in North Carolina," says the sign. I won't disagree - my everything bagel with cream cheese was crunchy, chewy and delicious. It's a narrow shop with walls covered in photos of customers and plenty of seating on four-top tables. I placed my order with a lovely young lady who brought it my seat a few minutes later. A good portion and hot. Definitely a worthy breakfast and a great bagel. And proper bagels are rarely this good in the South, or really anywhere that isn't New York (or New Jersey). read more

First of all, I gotta say I LOVE the food here! I think that's really important to consider if you want to come here. However, we have been coming for several years now since moving close by (it was formerly Steve's) and the service here is incredibly SLOW. There are just so many things that don't make sense. Staff will take maybe one or two orders at a time and practically fully complete them before taking the next order, leaving guests standing there for so long. I understand it gets busy here, but there HAS to be a better system. When it was formerly Steve's, they had a ticket pull system which seemed to work way better. The staff also don't seem to care about their appearance WHATSOEVER. One particular individual has an almost entirely bleached t-shirt with bleached hand prints on it...does the owner not supply new shirts for the staff?!?! 8/10 times that I order here, my food is completely wrong. Sometimes I even have to repeat myself multiple times just to get what I'm saying to be written down on the order sheet...it's nonsense. Honestly, I'd rather leave a lower review, but the bagel sandwiches are just phenomenal in my opinion when I get what I asked for on it! It's not the food here that sucks, it's the service! If the food tastes amazing I'm still coming, but I really wish the new owner could figure out something to get things moving quicker and the staff caring more about their appearance! I'm happy to update my review in the future if the service improves. Lastly, there really needs to be a blower above the door to keep flies out. There are no prices posted on board. When asked how much something costs, staff member had to look it up on the computer. Just strange. We ordered a plain bagel, a bagel w cream cheese and one with lox. The lox bagel was 13.00!!! What? Clearly, they have jacked all the prices up, and the only price information online is from when it was the previous owners, Steve's. Very duplicitous! Can make a half dozen lox bagels at home for the entire price we were charged here. Just ridiculous! read more

The food is good, Ive been here twice and my bagel was made correctly. Its best to call your order ahead of time. They are located in strip center with good parking. There is some seating available, not a lot. There is a good selection of bagels available. However, they are unorganized and the young girl at the register on the weekends needs more customer service training. Undecided if I'll visit again. read more

I had been craving a lox bagel and found Big Steve's Bagels. They are located in the food lion plaza in McGees, so plenty of parking is available. When you walk in, you can tell the place is loved by the owners as well as the patrons. We were helped right away, the menu is posted on the wall and easy to see. You can dine in or take it to go, which we opted to go home since we are down the street. Half of my lox did not make it home because it was sooo delicious! The bagel sandwiches are definitely huge, I couldn't unhinge my jaw wide enough to get a whole bite. I will definitely be back and recommend to those looking for bagel breakfast! Service is so fast don't let the long lines fool you !!! The clerks are excellent with taking orders and absolutely get them right which is a real big deal. Coffee is always fresh and so delicious! The homemade cakes and pastries are to die for !! A great variety of cream cheeses always made fresh ! Excellent bagels, I usually get the same thing which is just a bacon egg and cheese bagel on Asiago but it hits every time. The lady who took our order was a bit rude tho. Not kind at all haha. I ordered a coffee and she didn't give me my cup and I waited a bit for someone to even come back to the counter so I could ask for it. Very disappointed in the bagels today . The bagels had a rubbery, almost gummy consistency that makes each bite feel like a mini workout for your jaw. The eggs were over cooked and very hard on the edges . I was a frequent customer when it was Big Steve's & honestly I don't think I will be coming back . read more

Well-deserved retirement Big Steve! I have never been to Big Steve's for anything other than a dozen or two bagels and a couples of tubs of various cream cheeses. Always perfection. Lots of people are coming in at 6:30/7:00 AM on the weekends for breakfast Sammies and they look good, really good! The bagels are my go to in JoCo. Y'all in Cary and Raleigh need to come on down - there isn't a better bagel shop in your area - trust me! Best of all to the new owners - NY Bagel Deli (I believe). A lot to live up to! read more

Let's be clear this is not anything like Big Steve's Bagels. It's sad to see they changed a really good find. I drive over 30 minutes to stock up on bagels and I will not do that anymore. Their bagels have gone to crap. They are NOT a New York style water bagel they do not freeze and come back after defrost so no point in buying extra which is what a true water bagel does. They smoosh down and are airy a complete disappointment to a place calling themselves New York Bagel & Deli. They NO Longer carry specialty bagels like the last owner and the bagel sandwiches with egg had black oil spots on the egg because the griddle was so filthy! I spent more than I ever have here because they also raised the prices on horrible food. AVOID THIS PLACE got a terrible stomach ache from the food and I will be on the hunt for a new bagel place as big Steve's is no longer and this my friends is not it. read more

Probably the only good deli in Smithfield. The tuna melt is delicious. The hours are odd so do check before going!

We stopped in for the first time and it won't be the last!!!! No wonder this place is voted #1 bagel and deli....got out custom bagel fast and it was cooked so good!!! And it wasn't pricey!! We used to come here all the time when it was Big Steve's- they were easily the best bagels in the Triangle area and that is no longer the case. The bagels seem like they're a day old, all of the bagels we got in the dozen had a faint taste of onion and garlic (not great when you're eating a blueberry bagel with cream cheese)- we didn't order an everything or garlic bagel so not sure why that's the case. There are no prices posted on the board inside. We bought a bakers dozen and it was only 12 bagels. The sticky cinnamon bagels were not wrapped separately so they got coated in sesame seeds in the bag. We miss Big Steve's! Unfortunately we won't be coming here again. read more

The guys from Staten Island, and this is pretty much what you get in New York. Delicious! I always get a bakers dozen (which is about 15 bucks) and come home, slice them up, wrap them up with some saran wrap and take them out of the freezer in the morning and throw them right in the toaster. You don't even need to defrost, you just throw it in the toaster and it's just as good as if you're there. Being, I'm from New York, this was a golden gem of a find. read more

As with many locals I was disappointed to see Big Steve's bought out. People seemed to be griping about the new ownership. So I decided to check it out today. Got and Everything Pumpernickel with veggie cream cheese and sliced tomato. Was prepared well with plenty of cream cheese and toasted. Also picked up a few croissants to go for lunches. I noticed all the fun pictures on the wall that made Steve's such a fun place to go are gone and the prices have increased but so far the experience was good. I will be back! read more

Went there today for lunch for sandwiches to go. Ordered two Italian sandwiches which were a ridiculous $20 each, which is quite sweet for a sub. I also tried to order everything bagels for tomorrow, and the older lady behind the counter was rude in stating that they were out. Sat down and waited for my order and another customer came in to order bagels as well and the lady rudely exclaimed to him that it was late in the day and that they were out of everything bagels, stating "who eats a bagel at noon?!". Got my order and went home. Upon opening and starting to eat the sandwich there was no oil or cheese as ordered and one of the sandwiches was on the wrong type of bun. Between the price, the wrong order and the poor attitude and service it would be hard pressed to find us coming back to this establishment. read more

I absolutely love bagel shops and, whenever I go out of town I always look for a nearby one. I happened to be in this area for a wedding and, on the way home, stopped by for some road trip fuel. I deducted a star because I'm a little upset that this place is too far from my house. However, that may be a good because I would be here daily. Total for my sausage and egg sandwich and coffee was $4 plus change. Folks, less than FIVE DOLLARS for a sandwich and coffee. That does not exist in Charlotte. We visited on an early Friday morning and had no wait. I placed my order after admiring their selection of bagels. When I was told the total, I hesitated handing over money out of shock. They have one size for coffee - and it's not tiny - with a nice coffee prep area that is complete with a variety of sugars/sweeteners, milks/creamers. One star only because it made me in order to write review. Saw the sign for this place on highway while traveling. Being from Long Island NY, Myself and my sisters stopped to eat. Boars Head meat signs all over store. We were told they did not carry boars head meats. Decided to try. I had the chicken salad. It was the furtherest thing from chicken salad And was horrible so I discarded and went to Subway. My sisters ordered a ham sandwich and BLT. Ham was all fat this too was discarded. The BLT's lettuce was brown and had to be removed. All this cost us $40. This place is horrible. Nothing but false advertising and poor quality of food. Bagels were nothing like a NY bagel. This little deli is a great place for a New York style experience. We love the Nova lox bagel and today we decided to eat in. Management needs to take a note that the flies are horrendous! There should be some kind of mechanism to keep them at bay. I realize people stand with the door open waiting to get in, but something needs to be done once they are in that restaurant as it's difficult to eat with them flying around your food and/or landing on you. I've been enjoying the bagels and sandwiches at Big Steve's for over 5 years now. This review is long overdue! Big Steve's is an authentic New York deli. I've never been to NY, but when I walk into this deli, I feel like I'm transported there. This past weekend my boyfriend and I had breakfast here before a trip to the beach. We arrived pretty early (word to the wise - you definitely want to get here super early on Saturdays and Sundays to avoid the crowds) and grabbed a number. There were a few customers ahead of us, so I browsed the bagels behind the counter. I was so excited to see that they had a pickle bagel!! I ordered this bagel, toasted with low-fat cream cheese, and my boyfriend had a plain bagel, toasted, with regular cream cheese. The pickle bagel was DELICIOUS!!! If you love pickles, it's a must try! I bet that it would be awesome as a tuna melt. We have tried the Italian sub, Rachel Ruben, nova lox bagel and the knish, and everything has been tasty. Totally unorganized. Walked in with only one person ahead of me and then 5 groups of people walked in. Took 20 minutes for my order to be taken. Put your number system back in place. Ordered a mushroom cheese omelette on an onion bagel. I got mushroom cheese on an egg bagel. I sure do miss Steve!!!! Time to find another place to go. read more

I don't live in this state. When I do visit, I head right to this wonderful Bagel shop Nice touch on the door, you can open it with your foot. I've loved every bagel I've ever bought here. Often have them make a breakfast sandwich with them. Only regret is never making room for dessert or heading by during lunch. Think the deli part sells meat by the pound too. Check it out. Tried the ET, the Salt and Pumpernickel bagels, toasted with cream cheese. All solid, fresh and tasty. We also got a cinnamon roll to try and it was very good too. Service was fast and friendly and I got a dang good cup of coffee. We drive by on our way to the beach a lot but are not always able to stop because of the hours they are open but we finally hit it at the right time. It does remind me of a NY bagel shop and I mean that in the best way. If you've ever experienced one in NY, set your expectations accordingly. Next time, we'll try the sandwiches. Frankly, it's really hard to get a good sandwich in the Raleigh area so we are looking forward to trying Steve's. read more
