We love the build-your-own-bowl options and are always impressed by the amount of toppings, proteins, and sauces that they have available. The large bowl comes with 3 proteins, which is quite generous. You can choose from seafood items like tuna, salmon and shrimp or even chicken and beef. For around $16, you'll get you quite a protein packed bowl. I also love that for the bases I can do half rice and half salad! I can never decide between the two, so being able to get both is a huge win in my book. Every time we've gone we do takeout and the food is always fresh and prepared quickly. Big Fin Poké, we're so happy to have you in South Portland now! Located in an easily accessible strip mall with plenty of parking, this is definitely my preferred location over the Westbrook spot. I also think the lay-out inside seems much more wide-open and spacious. Loved how clean it was, loved how bright it was, and loved the abundance of seating that didn't seem to disrupt the flow of customers in line ordering. I don't usually eat alone at a restaurant, but I felt super comfortable doing so here (especially at the bar by the windows)! This is probably my favorite kind of lunch food: healthy, light, and filling. Love how many options there are, love that I can get the same thing every time but adding ONE different ingredient changes the entire experience, love how patient the staff is with indecisiveness. My go to seems to be a bowl with sushi rice, fried tofu, sweet onions, edamame, shiitake mushrooms, avocado, pickled ginger, and topped with fried wonton crisps. YUM. I just wish BFP wasn't so expensive. Like, I totally get it: it's both quality and premium ingredients so they have to charge a bit more. But that's what prevents me from making this a regular stop. My only other issue? I wish they'd label what's vegan; currently, they label what's gluten-free (this is on the glass case between the customers and the employees), and that's awesome, but... throw a V up there for us, yeah? read more

There were four of us, and we each ordered something different. The highlights? Yellowtail Yuzu and the Hawaiian Original. Fresh, packed full of veggies, delicious dressings, and a perfect portion. I was pleasantly surprised. This place is huuuge on the inside. Went around 3 and we were the only people there. There is a preset menu where you can select different bowls and also a menu where you can build your own poke. My husband got the classic shoyu and really liked it. I got the spicy tuna and thought it was great. Fish was really fresh. The bowls come in two sizes, regular and large. The regular was too much for me to finish in one sitting, however my husband ate all of his. I will be back to try more for sure. Plenty of parking. Just got takeout from here and learned that if you put the sauces on proteins they'll give you up to three for free, however if you want two sauces on the side they charge you like it's an extra. I tried to have him explain this to me but there was no explanation, that's just the way it is. Wow! Same with the toppings, you can have up to 5 for free, but they all have to be different. 2 of the same and you get charged for extra...even if you have less than 5 total toppings. WTF Big FIn Poke?? Wow, Big Fin Big Flavor! Tried to have them last night but they were closing, then read a review by Steff and decided to try again. Glad I did. Normally I'd preface this with "I'm from Maine" but so is just about everyone else here, so I'll start with "I was stationed in Hawaii" and their Hawaiian option minus the pineapple really brought back the taste of the islands. They give a very judicious portion of avocado, and the addition of crab slaw is also welcomed. Occasional over salted bits but overall such a great delite. The tuna was nice and fresh, well seasoned. Unfortunately I will miss this in San Antonio for sure. The miso wasn't great, but not utterly bad either... just a little bland. Anyway Steff is right, this place rocks the Poke.
