Big Horn hosted our family reunion last week - a party of 45! They had a section of the restaurant reserved and ready for our arrival, with access to a small adjoining patio that proved to be great for the little ones with the wiggles. The food was quite good and the excellent waitress did an outstanding job of keeping our orders sorted by family group so the checkout went smoothly. We will absolutely return here on our next trip to Estes Park! read more

Tried to come here several times always showed up too late. Did the take out thing during Covid. Well this evening finally got to come in. As you might imagine this place has been around for a long time. A old timey place, cool old pictures of Estes. Simple menu with soup/salad bar included with most meals small fee to add to sandwich meals. Fresh lettuce but small simple bar. Homemade soup. Certainly seems like homemade items. First time in Estes Park (EP) for wedding and what an awesome place. Wife and I stayed at a walking distance hotel in need of breakfast after a long flight. Once I got over the breathtaking view from in front of the hotel, my hunger hit me!! Short walk to the Big Horn, got seated right away, our pleasant server bought us coffee and water. Looked over the menu and chose the huevos ranchero, my wife the biscuits and gravy. Menu says they have "green chile" as a side...so why not get it on the huevos...was a great choice. Made tummy very happy, perfect cooked OE eggs, great refried beans to complete the experience. Wife choice of biscuits was amazing, appeared to be fresh baked biscuits and worthy homemade gravy...great coffee as well...GO THERE!! read more

This place had three other people in it during what should be dinner rush. Beef stew at the salad bar was burnt- I don't know how you burn stew, but it was gross. The macaroni and cheese was just noodles with flavorless yellow sauce. Chicken fried steak was kind of edible but you can tell the gravy came straight out of a can. We have been in Estes park for a week and our favorite place to eat is Big horn!! Their staff went above and beyond with any requests we had. Our waitress Mariah was so patient and accommodating. We loved our food: smothered salmon, Philly chicken sandwich, soup and salad. The menu has something for everyone, which is wonderful for our family! Our food came out piping hot ! Honestly terrible! ALL food we ordered was obviously frozen. We ordered a bbq platter, chicken fried chicken, the fried cod, and french dip sandwich that felt like chewing on a yoga mat Really expensive for bad food. Trout is serving here. That all I care. I was looking for fresh trout in the area. This restaurant makes the cut. This restaurant mainly sell the BBQ dish. But they they have one seafood dish selection with local rainbow trout. We got the trout dish. It comes with all you can eat salad and soup. The salad bar is average but the soup clam chowder soup is good. The dish also comes with one side and tartar sauce. The trout is pan grilled with spice. It was delicious. Love it. We also got the local brew beer. Recommended to order the Estes Park Stinger with wild honey wheat. Very unique. First time have it. read more

Food: no. The 6oz fillet was not only a bad cut, it was chewy and incredibly dry. Which is quite odd because it was cooked to the right temp! Which leads me to believe it was actually old... The fresh red mash... I thought the crusty hard pieces were just cause they were left in the hot pan to long... No. the taste was off, I've had up to a week old fresh mash potatoes and this was definitely older. I'm sad it took me a few bites to figure it out... The elk burger... it was fine, I guess for a manufactured frozen patty. This was not fresh and it didn't have any gamey taste so I dought it was even elk. The pickle was good. Service: Great actually. That is the one Star. The waitress was sweet, honest, and helpful. Ambiance: Not great. the AC was on full blast with the doors wide open and we had to fight a couple gnats for our food. The paint had swollen up on one of the walls and a man proceed to poke a hole in the 2'x6" wall bubble and drain it of water. When finished he tried pressing the paint back up onto the saturated wall. No idea what was happening, but it wasn't good. This is my first time here. Sasha and Carlos made the night interesting and fun. Took care of us, friendly and good conversation. Salad bar, homemade? baked potato soup, and chicken fried steak with real mashed potatoes and cream gravy were good. Gravy was a little bland but still better than the sausage gravy that infests CO. My only real complaint is the ranch is that bitter commercial buttermilk ranch. I think all the dressings are commercial but the pasta salad and potato salad seemed homemade. For those in a wheelchair, restrooms are small with limited access. I was able to park at the door but down a narrow hallway and walk in about 4 steps. Toilet was tall enough. Round door knob. I ordered a $13 menu item and it ended up showing up on my bill for $18 but I didn't want to take the time to argue it. The food was all average at best but there are large portions - I would recommend splitting with someone. The inside gives an old diner feel and there are a few tables on the back patio as well if you want outdoor dining. I had the brisket and ribs plate which came with coleslaw and a choice of potato and I chose their homemade chips. Brisket was sliced thin which isn't what I am used too but it was tender. Ribs were very tender too. Coleslaw was good and the chips were too. Was nice to see them serve the chips without salt on them so I could control how much I wanted. This restaurant ended up being tough for me...... They advertised a salad bar so I thought i would be okay. My friend was wanting a meal a little more substantial and some of the other places had a longer wait. So we came here. The restaurant was not super full but they were short staffed so the wait was longer. If you are vegan/vegetarian/gluten free, i would advise just passing on this restaurant to avoid frustration. Had to go to Estes Park for an appointment and when I was done, my boyfriend and I came here for breakfast before heading back to Denver. Our waitress, Anastasia, was so pleasant and on top of taking care of our needs. My boyfriend had the biscuits and gravy that came with 2 sausage patties and grits and I had the huevos rancheros. At first glance the sausage patties looked dry but they were very juicy and flavorful. The biscuits, we'll let me tell you those biscuits are to die for!!! BIG, moist and flavorful. Turns out they make them every morning! My huevos rancheros was very good as well. Eggs were cooked to the perfect over medium I requested. We sat and talked and relaxed and just enjoyed the atmosphere and the music was great! And to top off our perfect breakfast and time, my boyfriend and I were having such a good time that he decided it was THE moment to officially propose. May not have been a beautiful setting out in nature, or a fancy restaurant (which is where he proposed to me 42 years ago, high school sweethearts that have kept in touch over the years), but it was the perfect time. The town was crowded and parking not easy but luckily we found Big Horn restaurant a little ways (but not by much) off the main drag and with its own lot. Veggie burger and fries for me, elk burger and fries for her. Service was friendly and attentive and food came out quickly. A step above diner food, my veggie burger was simple but nicely cooked and the bun well toasted. It was just what we needed after a long day in the mountains. Appears to be a mix of locals and tourists and closer to dinner time it was getting crowded. Great stop to grab a simple and quick burger after day hikes. read more

Wow, breakfast was fabulous. I just ordered scrambled eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit. The eggs were done perfectly. Pretty on the plate, not touching the other food on my plate. The hash browns were cooked to perfection, perfect color and crispness! And for the finale- a delicious biscuit with butter and honey/jam. I couldn't have asked for a better, simple breakfast that turned out wonderful. I am picky and was thrilled with the choice. My husband ordered the huevos rancheros for his breakfast. Also, spot on! Great flavor, delicious green chili. Not to spicy. I had several bites and enjoyed the dish as well. I would definitely go back for a super solid meal. We were in Estes on Saturday and were looking for somewhere to have dinner. Our phones weren't getting a signal so we went in a bit blind, old school style like it was the 90s, and just picked a place that looked interesting. Big Horn Restaurant did not disappoint. We sat out on the patio because it was nice and warm on Saturday plus I'm still leery about dining inside anywhere at the moment. The staff were all very attentive and we never felt forgotten. And the prices were very reasonable for Estes Park. My spouse got the Hawaiian ham with house made chips (they should bag and sell those, so good!) and corn with green beans. He really enjoyed it and I had a few bites and thought it was good too. Ham wasn't too salty which is very nice. I got the fried cod filets with their house made red mashed potatoes and gravy. The mashed potatoes and gravy were GREAT and the fish was cooked really nicely. I enjoyed the batter, it was unusual for a beer batter because there was a little cornmeal in it but it was super tasty. And they provided plenty of tartar sauce! Both of our meals came with access to the salad and soup bar. I was stoked when I saw I could eat the salad (some types of lettuce make me physically ill) so I loaded up on that. Didn't try the soup but it smelled good. Overall, it was an enjoyable meal. Plus, deer happened to walk right by the patio while we were eating so we got some free entertainment as well. read more
