I called ahead to check if they carried waterfowl maintenance pellets, and the friendly lady on the phone confirmed they did. I stopped by to pick up some duck feed before heading to a local sanctuary. They had five bags of waterfowl maintenance pellets in stock, and I bought four at just under $16 per 25-pound bag. The store is very neat and also offers a great selection of gift items. The duck food was stored in dry units that resemble refrigerators in the back. The store associate explained that while the pellets don't need refrigeration, this storage method helps keep them fresh and prevents critters from breaking into the bags overnight. So I stopped in this place because a friend I was golfing with told me I would like it. Right away I found jeans for $110 and a purse for $132, hadn't even passed the first isle yet, decided it was a big store and wanted to use the restroom so I went to the register where the lady, with waaay too much attitude, informed me there was only a porta potty, pointing to a door, and said "out back". So I began walking to the open door, then she said "that's not an exit, you have to go back out the front door and around". I could clearly see that was an exit, but left anyway. I did not spend a single cent there, nor did I use the porta potty. I hope that lady was the owner, because had I made my way through that whole store I probably would've spent quite a bit more than what I had already picked out and with that attitude, she doesn't deserve anyone to shop there! Had some feed buckets I needed to return that were unused but not usable in the area we need them so I went to return them. It was just over 30 days and they don't do returns, exchanges or store credit. So they will be losing our business and some business from four ranch as well. All over some $30 buckets that were brand new. I could see it if they were used or something but they weren't. If I could rate less than a 1 I would they were very smug as well. They aren't the only place around. They are expensive, terrible customer service and kinda rude. I would use Inland Vet Supply for the stuff they carry and there are plenty of other feed stores. Well I must say, this is a small town! I ran into an ex employee that worked at Big Horse Feed. She said she quit last year as she kept getting sick, she saw a doctor and they discovered that she had Hantavirus which was from exposer to rat urine and rat poop. She said this place is infested, especially when she went to get a pair of boots for a customer to try on, they literally jumped out at her and have made nests in boxes of new boots and clothing. Last year I went in to get a few things and had my dog on a leash. Later that night my dog was throwing up and had diarrhea for three days. I took her to our vet. Her blood test came back as being exposed to some type of fesses, well I put two and two together. Please beware of this place! There are a lot of better, cleaner feed stores in Temecula. read more

I had limited myself to only getting horsefeed for my horses and not buying anything else at the store because the customer service is so bad and the owners do not care about customers. My husband went to pick up Orchard, a couple days ago and was given Timothy instead. We live in Anza and I was told that I needed to bring back the Timothy and exchange it for Orchard. This place absolutely reeks of rat urine. There is clearly an infestation and they have yet to deal with it. This used to be my absolute favorite tack store and our destination to drive up to Temecula. But now I almost throw up as soon as you walk in the store. We recently got married in Temecula and all this past year it's smelt. Today was the worst. Walked in walked to the middle of the store and had to leave. I'm shocked the workers aren't getting sick from that environment. This place needs to shut down remove all inventory and get the rat infestation handled. This is an absolute public safety issue. I was in a car with people from work when one of them asked if we could stop by Big Horse Feed. She's an equestrian and loves this store. There's plenty of parking right out front. I don't do any riding so I wasn't sure what to make of this store. They have a ton of stuff. It seems most of the horse stuff is towards the back. The front had clothes, jewelry, home stuff, etc. I saw a sale rack that caught my eye. I wasn't planning on buying ANYTHING but these jackets, that were marked 35% off, were beautiful. The sizes were quite big but hey - who doesn't want an oversized jacket during winter. I only saw one tiny dressing room but thankfully a mirror is outside the room. I slipped on all the jackets and loved them all. The sales staff was so kind and knowledgeable. Rebecca was my favorite as we joked that a non-rider like me ended up buying from the store. Malia helped ring up the tab. I thought it was odd that they asked for a phone # but they said it's to assist with returns (even though sale items are final sale). I also got a sweatshirt for 20% off. The tote that they gave me was so pretty and sturdy. Loves. Someone else in my group is a horse person and he said the merchandise here was purchased by a very good buyer (I think Rebecca said the owner, Rose?, was the buyer). So go figure. I was told this in a manner that attempted to make me the customer look stupid for asking. I then went down the road to Dan's feed and there were no issues there. I was hoping that October would be cooler to bring the kids here, but it was pretty warm this weekend. Nonetheless, it didn't stop us from coming here to spend the day. Upon entering, we walked past the ponies, which my daughter spent a good 5 minutes petting them through the fence and jumping with joy that they came near her. Then there's this long line to buy tickets. Logistically, it didn't work because some people didn't know how the ticketing thing worked or what activities they wanted to do or even what the activities looked like for them to want to do it. Since my kids are a little young, we only did the face painting/balloon animal and the corn maze for two adults (my kids get in free, they're 2 and under). Then finally, a woman decided to break the line into two to make the lines go faster and then explained to everyone how the ticketing works. They take credit cards, so don't sweat it if you don't have cash. Also, you can match up the corn maze and two other activities for $15, it's a good deal if you know what you're planning to do. Then we walked through the pumpkin patch where my daughter spent a few minutes finding the pumpkins she wanted. She kept picking the smaller ones, but that's fine. Each pumpkin is about $0.60/lb. There's also a hen house in the pumpkin patch for my daughter to waste a few minutes of her time there. Then we got to the face painting/balloon animal line. My daughter didn't want her face painted so we just got her a balloon. Then it was off to the corn maze! The corn maze is about a 30-40 minute walk. There's 10 sections so once you hit #10, you know you reached the end of the corn maze. You can scan the code and do trivia to figure out where you are, but my husband and I just winged it. With a double stroller no less! There's vendors there that sells turkey legs, corn on the cob, hawaiian shaved ice, funnel cakes, kettle corn, etc. The kettle corn guys didn't take credit cards but most of the other vendors do. There's port-a-potties for you to use. Nursing moms, there's no place for you to nurse here, so either go back to your car to nurse or use the port-a-potty (which I don't recommend because it's so hot in there!) Parking is $5, so make sure not to leave and try to come back. Bring your own water for the corn maze since it does get hot. Bring tons of sunscreen because spending the day there, you can get burned, there's not a lot of shade there at all. read more

We are very disappointed in the customer service here. We received Christmas presents from this store, and we needed to exchange the items for things that fit correctly. We had to beg them to let us exchange the items. They wouldn't exchange a pair of boots because they were bought on final sale, which we understood, but everything else was a total hassle. They seem to have super strict policies on everything. Things like this are reason why more and more people buy online these days. We will not be returning costumers here. Don't get me wrong I love big horse! But what happened was a little concerning and annoying. I bought a Kerrits belt and I used some credits I had from a previous visit. So, I told them the belt I wanted and all that and then this really nice lady said " your credits aren't showing up, I think we're going to have to talk with the owner on what is going on." Don't be fooled, she is the nicest, but they really need to always update their pos system to make sure mistakes don't happen like this because other customers have encountered this issue. I really recommend this store but please watch out with the credits because you never know what could happen(credits come from after you return items from this store) big horse is a really nice place ti go though! Also, it is very hot in there, so they maybe should upgrade their ac system. The most finicky feed store I have ever been to! "We can only sell 10 bales if there's a chance of rain"- What? Your employees can't get wet? "We can only sell 10 bales because the yard guys are at lunch" Who the hell sends all their employees to lunch at the same time? Prices are on the high side. Selection of tack is minimal. Allot of decor and clothes fill the floor space. Employee knowledge is below expected. Several times I've had to help find the correct feed I purchased because the employee didn't know what they were loading. Only go here when it convenient, prefer going elsewhere. read more

I never go to Big Horse due to their prices but I was in a bind and needed a hay bale to get me through the next day until I could do my big hay run. First, you are greeted by the potent smell of animal urine. Not just a little "I think I get the hint of urine" no it's as if you stuck your face in a dirty litter box that's never been cleaned. I couldn't get out of their fast enough. Second, they store there hay directly on the ground stacked and under ripped tarps for their hay to be subjected to the weather elements. With how much they charge for hay, their hay should stored better. Do better Big Horse, the girl at the register looked miserable and I honestly cannot blame her. I'd be so upset if I had to work in those kind of conditions, it's no wonder you have such a high turnover rate. On our visit today to buy supplements, the lady that helped me was very friendly and was working hard at figuring out how to apply my gift cards to the purchase. She needed help, that's when it all fell apart. "CJ" (who has worked there for some time now) came over chewing her gum like she was a cow chewing cud, the personality of a gnat and even less desire to be having to help. I needed dog food and as I was already heading to Temecula to check on my friend's cats, I stopped at Big Horse. Well they close at 1pm on Sunday and it was getting on past 3pm now. As I was backing up a lady getting into the only other car in the parking lot asked me what I needed. I told her I needed some dog and cat food but since I would be back by on Monday I would just come back. She asked if I had a card, I do. So she opened the store back up and I got my feed. We have visited this store a few times for horseback riding gear. The staff has always been kind, courteous and very helpful. They don't chase you around the store, which is a good thing! This review is actually for their Corn Maze and Harvest Festival. $8 for the corn maze (group discount, but you must pre-reserve) or $10 for the discount plus 3 activities which include a corn cannon, rubber ducky race, face painting, tractor ride, etc. If you have a military ID, you get in for $4.50. The $10 level is well worth the price as most activities are $3 a la carte. In addition to the pay-to-play activities, there's free contests like a pumpkin walk (think cake walk, but with a pumpkin), a pig race with little pigs named Oscar, Meyer, Shake and Bacon. (BTW, Bacon won his second race by a snout.) Near the front entrance, there's a cow, a Clydesdale horse, and the above mentioned pigs.There's also a small concession stand that sells hot dogs, nachos, snow cones, and kettle corn for somewhat reasonable prices. Although not the largest you would see like in the Midwest, given that it's across the street from a shopping center(?), it's pretty good. The maze has plenty of loops and dead ends that kept my friends and me wandering around for about an hour. But don't worry, you won't end up like that couple and their baby having to call 9-1-1 because you are hopelessly lost. They've placed "Corn Cops" at various points in the maze to help you find your way. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes as it gets pretty warm within the maze. Bring water, but if you forget, they sell bottled water as well. As a final note, DO NOT EAT THE KETTLE CORN within the corn maze! Took a family outting to here to check it out. It costs to park but it's for a good cause. The money for parking went towards injured/killed military families. Country feel comes across a lot here. From the main building, to the stuff they sell inside. As for the festives, this place is definitely great for families with children. They had pig races, poney rides, the corn maze, face painting, food consession stand, corn chucker, and several other family oriented events. I gotta say the corn maze (costs $9), is their biggest draw. If you go through the proper directions, you walk close to a mile. So you can imagine getting closer to 2 miles of walking in by the time you're done. read more

COULD HAVE KILLED MY HORSE. UNETHICAL, LIARS, PLAIN BAD MANAGEMENT: Have become Unethical--buyer beware!! They only get one star because Yelp doesn't go lower. Was a customer for years. Then started getting multiple bad batches of hay. Got back-to-back delivery of mold and mildew in my hay. I don't mean a little. Entire bales laden in mold. I noticed as they were unloading and told them to stop. They apologized and brought new hay the next day. I call BS that THEY could not have seen that mold. It was impossible to miss. Toxic! But I overlooked it because I'd not had a bad experience yet. Then, I start to get hay that pulverized into powder. Or had small patches of dry rot. My horse wouldn't touch it. Suddenly they are saying it was a bad hay season everywhere. Yet when I'd physically go over there I'd see loads of great hay. That means they were purposely delivering the junk and hoping the customers wouldn't notice. Completely Denied this of course. So, when I ended up going down there to check the hay out back and talk to them in person, cuz clearly my stressful calls were not being taken seriously, the people on site tell me "well we didn't see the hay that was delivered to you, but it's all the same as we have here right now." as I am looking at WAY better hay than was ever delivered over many months. I say the hay I'm looking at right now is beyond better than what I got, why can't you deliver that? They keep insisting it's the same and they can't pick and choose bales for individual clients. Then they say "try pellets, lots of our clients are switching until hay crops get better again." I don't have a truck and can't take the good hay I see right there, so I take their advice to temporarily switch to pellets. My horse tolerates them. After a month I try a new batch of hay based on them assuring me it's good now. They may as well have sold me straw. It was disgusting. The final insult? Rose calls me and tells me they won't sell to me anymore because I've become a problem. Are you kidding me? For heaven's sake, MY HORSE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!!!. They sold me batch after batch of literal toxic hay, They blew off delivery days and didn't tell me, lied about not having better hay--I tolerated this for six months cuz I'd been there for years, but I'M the problem?! No, your lying staff, non-existent morals and bad hay is the problem. The craziest thing of all? I literally say to Rose "so you're telling me you admit you've made multiple mistakes, they are all your fault but because of that you won't sell to me anymore?" She agrees! She openly admits it's their fault but will not sell to me because it's too problematic. You can imagine my facial expression as the depth of this sinks in. I start thinking, I can't be the only person this kind of thing happened to. Then I look on here they see the ratings. The ratings here don't lie. Go to Dan's feed. They require you deliver a larger amount which originally kept me away , but turns out it helps to stock up. And? They are just four miles from Big Horse and gave me GREAT hay at the exact time Big Horse was lying through their teeth telling me all hay everywhere was still iffy. They were trying to rid their winter junk on small-order customers and giving the good stuff to their bigger clients. That's downright unethical. I purchased a pair of paddock boots for my daughter at the beginning of August. I bought them with some growing room so they would last for several months. Unfortunately the heels of the boots detached. The boots were no longer usable after normal use in the barn. I've learned my lesson paying with cash as the store would not offer an exchange, store credit, or money back. I knew that Big Horse Feed does not honor a return policy, but did think when it was product failure, they would rectify the problem. I've been a customer with Big Horse for 8 yrs. and I'm very unhappy my experience with Big Horse Feed. I've never complained about the dried out Alfalfa, or the several bails with dirt clods in bails of hay. I ordered a hay delivery on a Wednesday of last week in which the funds were withdrawn from my card immediately. I was E-Mailed from Big Horse my hay will be delivered on Friday. On Friday I received an a call in which I was informed, due to lack of help at Big Horse that my hay will be delivered on Saturday no later then 1 pm. Never came! I have 2 Big Draft Horses, and because of delay I ran out of hay. I was forced to drive my SUV to Big Horse and purchase additional feed, Alfalfa pellets that my horses don't care for. I do not own a truck, and I have a dirt road which leads to my home in Temecula. So now it's sunny Monday with all roads dry, and very much drivable. I received a call from Big Horse advising me they are unable to deliver because their delivery truck will get stuck. I assured them that roads were solid, and drive able that I had a flatbed Tow Truck at my home earlier and , and a trash truck emptied my trash bin today as well. I was informed that the owner refused my delivery. Due to upcoming rain my delivery that's already paid for won't be delivered or another week. Due to above incident, I need to purchase additional bags of pellets until I receive my delivery which is who knows when! I've been in Law Enforcement for 33 yrs. and I've always been honest, and fair to all people. I don't think this has been the case with me and my horses. read more
