Found it! Smells amazing can't wait

I wish I was back in Hilo town right now to get another Top Dog! I had one with lilikoi mustard and inions and it was BOMB! Companion had a portugese sausage with chili topping another winner. Also don't miss the fries and lilikoi lemonade. Desserts look great too but I didn't try them this time. Friendly local vibes, I only eat at locally owned places if I can help it when I am on the island. Luckily many Hilo joints are. This one is a standout.

Every bite tasted how it looked... so good

If on the Big Island, you must go! Best burger ever; it was proof that the cows are grass fed there. Fresh buns, authentic sauce, generous fixings!!! I also got a sample of homemade soup when I was there... Delicious.

Wow! We landed at Hilo airport around 12:30 and wanted a snack...found this gem of a place that is the very definition of a hole in the wall: smack dab in the middle of a residential airport ~5 minutes from Hilo International in a small shopping center. Employee/cook was very friendly and gave us suggestions on what to order. The Dogzilla hot dog with mushrooms, cheese, bacon, and all kinds of goodness (two aiolis, crispy onions, chives) was the best dog I've eaten EVER. The chili dogs were amazing as well. The fries with mushrooms and bacon and cheese were over the top as well. Cute place with a great vibe and great people! Must do, a hidden gem.

Ended up in Hilo and most restaurants are closed. Ended up in this small shopping strip with a few parking spots. Place is pretty small, takeout only and no public restrooms. Ordered a plain dog, cheese burger deluxe, crispy chicken burger, spudzilla fries, and their acai bowl. Just a heads up, don't order "plain" anything. Literally just buns and meat and that's it. The burger deluxe was decent, crispy chicken was good too, juicy, but kinda boring just stuck in between two buns. The spudzilla fries was done pretty well, and same for the acai bowl. Prices aren't outrageous, so that's pretty nice.

Was in the city of Hilo and had to stop by based off other reviews. I got the chili beef hotdog and added cheese and also got there fries and the house drink : strawberry lychee. Overall the food and the drink was 10/10!!! Only issue was they had one table to sit at which was taken when we ordered.

Their Pastele Stew Plate is fabulous! It comes with a Pastele Sausage, a scoop of gandule rice (arroz con gandules) and a scoop of macsalad. Delicious indeed!

Another amazing find in Hilo, our friends in Hilo took us here and "wow" menu has a little bit of everything..plate lunch, burgers, hotdogs, desserts, amazing teas, etc. No dine in, take out only but was busy so that tells you something about the food. Atmosphere is ... Its in a warehouse but very spacious inside, cute counter to order....we had the chicken katsu curry (my husbands fav), poke bowl and Pastele Stew (this is like gold, hard to find pastele anymore)...our friends ordered their normal hot dogs and fries, the hot dog comes on a interesting sweet roll looked yummy. And we ordered the brownie with chantilly frosting (this was the bomb) and lilikoi lemonade (it was okay). So many options we didn't know what to order....but will go back when in Hilo to try their homemade hotdogs.

Quality food. Good price. Friendly and great service. Very creative with the menu. Enjoyed my "Korean Drama." They know the name of frequent customers. Will visit again during our stay.

I must say, these are probably the best mochi balls I've had in my life. Every flavor came to life with every bite. It's very tight inside without any place to sit so be prepared to queue outside if the line is long. You can call in ahead to avoid the crowds. This is definitely one of the must visit spots on the Big Island. Even if you're on the Kailua Kona side.

That resulted in standing in the walk up line versus the phone order line that takes precedence. It's somewhat haphazard. We were there around 2pm on a Saturday. Just as you think you're getting closer to the entrance, folks with phone orders who just arrived will enter the store ahead of you. Then more waiting. Finally I get into the store and ordered six strawberry mochi. I paid for it not thinking about the price. Gave my name. Then waited outside as they've got to box my order. When my name is called I go back in and I'm handed the box. So heavy I'm thinking. It wasn't until we got back to our resort in Waikoloa and open the box. I got 12 strawberry mochi. No wonder the box was heavy and it was $28. The lesson here - place a phone order.

Since my time away, they have beautifully renovated the interior to have a sit-down booth area. I love the abundance of nene decor honoring our state bird, along with high quality chocolates made in Hawaii. The store clerk was very knowledgeable and described how each cultivars of chocolate differ in their taste profiles. We had the horchata 50% milk chocolate bar, and I don't have a picture because we devoured it in one sitting! Overall, Puna Chocolate Co. is an elegant, delightful, and elevated experience that rivals big names like Big Island Candies and Dandelion Chocolates in San Francisco. The espresso was strong, not overwhelmingly bitter, and had a good consistency to it. While sitting at the bar, I noticed that they had a Day Drink menu with a bunch of coffee and chocolate cocktails, including an espresso martini and a cacao old fashioned. For $14 and $13 respectively, these seemed like very reasonable prices. Definitely something I'll check out on my next visit. On the right side of the store is a gift shop, while the left side has a bunch of seating for patrons. I noticed there were a few people here with their laptops out, so I can only assume it's also a good place to work as well. The store seemed pretty quiet, street parking outside was easy, and the staff I interacted with here was friendly. Puna Chocolate Company is a good rest spot to stop by to escape from the busyness of Downtown Hilo.

In fact, except Madam Pele does NOT necessarily keep to the same schedule as the bakery, would try to time my Volcano drives to coincide with Friday, Saturday, or Sunday! Hahah. Holy Moly Batman... that one item was worth the drive alone! Since there really wasn't any real estate in our tummies, we split everything 3 ways... over the course of the next few hours. Two weeks later, still thinking about that ube cruffin! Would definitely do a repeat on that as well as the Medeterranean scones while trying other items. And as the nice couple infront of us in line mentioned, will have to return for the sister deli across the parking lot. Heard it was featured in Guy Hagi's food vlog. And if its good enough for Guy Hagi its where I want to be my next mealtime!
