My new favorite barbecue spot in Denver! Was lucky enough to stumble on this while walking around near a friend's apartment in Englewood, Denver has all these cool little pockets where it's very suburban and then all of a sudden you'll have a small corner with a few shops and restaurants and giving it a lovely walkable vibe. I could tell this place was going to be good because it was packed out at 11:30 AM on a Saturday. We decided to stop by and most people were ordering very large orders for takeout, but they have a good number of tables both inside and outside. The food takes a while to come, but that just means that it is all freshly prepared, and the staff are so nice and even give free samples. I went with the Kids meal brisket with the Potato salad and added a Sweet potato with the candied pecan butter. I seriously have no words -- all of these things were so delicious, and the amount of meat that you get even with the kids meal is more than enough to fill me up, especially with the rich sweet potato and potato salad on the side. I will be back as soon as I can, their hours are limited, and the drive is a little out of the central Denver area, but it is so worth it read more

Went recently to have a birthday lunch for a friend. We both tried the real McCoy sandwich and everything from the customer service to the food was just ok. The employee taking orders didn't know much about the sides (when my friend asked about the beans he just showed them to him instead of explaining what they have in them or if he likes them). I asked about the grits and another employee had to chime in that they were good. We both ordered the combo which includes a drink and side. We waited for a while for our food and went in after a while to see if everything was ready. They seemed flustered and told us the food would be right out. Granted there were a few people ahead of us but less than 5 total. The real McCoy sandwich was REAL dry. It comes with burnt ends and the bison green Chile and cheddar sausage (used to have pork as well) and their regular or buffalo sauce helped but not enough to overcome the dryness of the meats. The andouille & corn grits were fine as well. The sausage gives it a nice pop but the grits were more like potatoes in consistency. The best part was the Boylans ginger ale. Bummed Roaming Buffalo wasn't what I had previously. May come back but with other BBQ options it may be a while. read more

I do wish roaming buffalo were a little closer to me, as I am always impressed with their perfectly done meats. I went with the three meat platter and tried out the bison ribs. I'm sure it's pretty tough to make these as tender as they were, but I was very happy with the results. I also had the pulled pork which was juicy and delicious and the brisket, which is always great. What may have impressed me the most was the grits. A big part of the BBQ experience for me is the wonderful aroma of smoke that always accompanies great barbecue, and creates a feeling of anticipation for the coming meal. That was missing here, the first indication that all would not go well. I soldiered on anyway, and ordered the 2 meat plate, pulled pork and brisket, with an extra rib bone and collard greens and beans for sides. The brisket and pork were both dry and had no smoke flavor. The rib was so small (an end piece) that they gave me 2; they were both overcooked and had very little meat on them. The sides were the only good part of this meal, but sides do not great barbecue make, hence the 2 stars. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pitmaster visited our table and took our criticism with good grace, even offering to replace our food to see if they could do better, but I was done. I won't be returning. read more

We tried the pork ribs, bison ribs, pulled pork and brisket. The brisket and pork were bone dry and I hated their chili powder sauce so no help there. I got an end bone on the bison. It was overcooked but there was so much rub that I couldn't eat it anyway. It's awful. The pork ribs are hard to rate. We had pieces of rib. Maybe a tip and an end. Dried out. If you just order a single bone you should get a decent rib. The guy on the cutting board was new but I don't know if it would have mattered. They had one chance to impress. Back in Denver, I was excited to eat here again since it was a standout spot during my last visit. Unfortunately, this time around was a letdown. Not sure if the place has gone downhill or if I just got stuck with bad cuts, but the food was pretty disappointing. The brisket, which should be the star of the show, was dry, tough, and just poor quality overall definitely not how I remembered it. On the bright side, the beans, pork belly burnt ends, and cornbread were all solid. But when you're coming for BBQ, brisket is the main event, and it just didn't deliver. A little hole in the wall BBQ with some amazing flavor in their brisket. I ordered the brisket as well as Mac & Cheese to eat there. Service was quick once the order was placed. They came around to ask how it was and if everything was good. The amount of brisket was more than enough for another meal. Second time visiting, the first time I ordered pork ribs. Flavor and smoke level was just ok, and the ribs were so fatty that I didn't enjoy them or pulling fat out of my teeth hours after. This time I ordered pulled pork and beef brisket in sandwich form. The buns were nice.. fresh and hearty enough to hold in all the meat with a perfect broiled crispy char on the insides. When it comes to the meats I guess you win some and you lose some should apply to the cook or the process, and this just wasn't their day. Pulled pork had a little smoke flavor, but pretty dry and lacked seasoning. The brisket was well over cooked, what should have been the smoke ring was actually blackened un-chewable beef jerky, and what should have been the tender inner meat was juiceless and tough. The smoke flavor was there but was overwhelmed by excessive saltiness that kind of ruined everything. I also found a piece of broken sharp plastic in my sandwich which is what prompted me to post this review. Based on many positive reviews this place probably does turn out some decent Q at times, depending on when you show up. After two tries I can't say I would recommend it. We're huge BBQ fans, so when I looked up Yelp spots around our area and Roaming Buffalo BBQ was a result, I had to take a look! They have two locations, and this one is definitely smaller in comparison to photos from the one in Golden. - PARKING - Due to the smaller location, there also isn't a dedicated parking lot. Look for street parking along adjacent streets! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - Service was okay - I've just definitely had more enthusiastic people at BBQ joints! Food came out fairly quickly though! There's a few small tables that could fit 4 people, although you might push it if you all had your own trays crowding the table. - FOOD - Pork Belly Burnt Ends: MUST TRY! Worth making the effort to come specifically on Friday's to get this Day Special! Perfectly balance between the fat and the meat of the Pork Belly. Makes me sad we weren't able to come a day earlier and get their Brisket Burnt Ends! Would recommend! Pork Spare Ribs (Single Bone - $2.50): I'm astonished as I write this review and realizing what a big steal this was! We're so used to smaller bones, almost half the size of what we got here! The meat was so tender as well! We could've split a single bone and been good to go! Would recommend! Colorado Bison Back Ribs (Single Bone - $3.25): I've had Bison Ribs before and each time I thought they just were too much on the dry side for me. I still decided to give it a try here... but the result was the same. The meat just isn't as juicy as other options. Pulled Colorado Lamb ($24/lb): We weren't originally planning on getting any Lamb, but we decided last minute. Definitely did not need to as we were quite full at the end and couldn't finish this. However, similar to the Bison Ribs, this was just a bit too dry for our liking. Others might still enjoy it, but it wasn't great for us. Angus Beef Brisket ($24/lb): They graciously ask if you want fatty or lean - we opted for fatty of course! Really delicious and tender pieces of Brisket! I will say that their salt crust is definitely saltier than most spots I've been to. Wish I had some bread on the side to balance it out. Turkey Breast ($16/lb): Ever since we encountered delicious Turkey at another BBQ joint, we've given Turkey a chance at every new spot we've been to! Roaming Buffalo's is pretty good! Although not the juiciest we've had, it definitely wasn't dry either! Bison Green Chile & Cheddar Sausage ($4.00/ea): Such a great mix of flavors!!! The casing has that snappy bite every great Sausage should have. The Green Chile and Cheddar Combo is delicious!!! Would recommend! Smoked Poblano Mac & Cheese (Individual - $2.25): The perfect amount of cheesiness and spice! This definitely helped us have a break from all the meat/saltiness! Pretty good portion for what you pay for! Housemade Chips [Green Chile & White Cheddar] ($2.25): There was a great crunch to these Chips, and even a day later they were still crunchy! I didn't really taste Green Chile or White Cheddar though. However, it's open only three hours a day and far enough away to make it weekends only for me. Sporadic Saturday calls always told me they were out of brisket, even as early as noon. I got lucky today & made a mad dash across town to grab some before it could get cold back at home. In short: Brisket was magic. Service lacking, close quarters Faustian B'Cue RB's brisket stands among the best I've had in CO. Turkey and bison ribs also proved well above average. Sauces were a cut above most. We had one labeled "H" and one labeled "S." They had one person (?!) working a busy Saturday lunch. My food took 40 minutes instead of the promised 15 min. She was too busy to smile. Social distancing: With a long line and a small store, there's not much room to wait six feet apart. I first sat at an empty table right behind where people stand to order, but got tired of butts in my face and moved to a spot at the bar when I could. In the time that we were out on the patio eating, they switched their sign to sold out after 3 people went in after us. I am REALLY picky about BBQ. I get grossed out when pulled pork comes without the BBQ sauce already mixed in/on it. Before going I looked on Yelp and could tell the BBQ sauce was not going to come on this, but I was really craving BBQ as was my boyfriend, so I decided to try it anyways. This was the best BBQ I've had that did not previously had BBQ sauce on it. There was not excessive fatty pieces (which is what usually grosses me out). There BBQ sauce they give you was also really good, but I do wish we had gotten a little bit more. For sides, we go the Poblano Mac and Cheese which was really tasty, but I do wish the individual portion was just a little bit bigger. The sandwich in itself however is huge and packed with meat. The char, the smoke, and the unctuous meat flavor was outstanding. +Beef Brisket - Once you go fatty you never go back. Up there with the best brisket I've had. Gorgeous smoke ring and melted on the tongue. +Venison Sausage - Woahhhh, where has this been all my life? Honestly, this would pair perfectly with scrambled eggs. But hell, the flavors were extraordinary. You could pull the sausage apart with your hands it was cooked perfectly. +Chopped Pork - Don't even attempt to make BBQ if you can't master the basics. This restaurant just got a writeup in a national magazine, the only BBQ restaurant in Colorado to be mentioned. Sorry, I just don't get it. The sides were horrible, tasteless. The ribs were huge (meaning from a mature pig), which made them fatty and greasy. The taste was OK. The brisket sandwich was also just OK. The service was slow. We got there at 11:30. The people right before us were served immediately and were gone before we got served. Granted, they were busy. As far as atmosphere is concerned, there's an old Texas saying, "There's a fine line between quaint and crappy." It was quaint, but the table was sticky, i.e., not clean, and it was freezing in there. Overall, it was uncomfortable and not at all pleasant. Checked this spot out today, which was my 2nd time coming here (last time nearly 4 years ago). Impression was the same both times - that this is up there with the best BBQ I've ever had. The brisket in particular is excellent - my order today was a single plate of brisket (they give you an option of "fatty" or "lean" cut - I chose "fatty") with a side of mac + cheese. As far as I'm concerned the brisket was A+. The brisket was tender and juicy as-is, but was even better mixed in with the spicy BBQ sauce they offer. There was even a "fire" sauce they had available (hotter than spicy) that I enjoyed with the brisket. Will say the mac and cheese, while fine, was nothing special... thought it lacked flavor. But I go to BBQ spots for the BBQ - not so much the sides - so my rating is based primarily on the BBQ LOL. The platter also came with a cornbread muffin, which was good. The customer service here was also fantastic. I went to this spot Sunday morning at 11:30 am (half hour after they opened). There was no wait in line at the time and they actually had my food ready literally 10 seconds after I signed my credit card receipt at the counter! As for the meat...I'm gonna say maybe it was just an off-day for them. It had all the makings of amazing brisket...great smoke ring, heavy bark (which I like), but just too dry for me. Rachel walked us through the pricing, helping us decide how much meat we would need for the party and even helped us with delivery. They increased the order for us on short notice when we had more guests RSVP. Everyone at the party wanted to know where we got the food and we were hesitant to give away our new favorite BBQ place, because when they sell all the meats, they close for the night. I imagine Roaming BBQ will have 50 new customers after our backyard party. What surprises me the most was the smoked turkey; Roaming Buffalo knocks it out of the park with the spice rub and brined breast. It is so juicy and blasting with flavor. Today was our first time visiting roaming buffalo. They were out of all sausage which was disappointing, but they had everything else. We tried the pulled pork (pass), brisket (must get!!), pork ribs (delicious!!), poblano mac & cheese (definitely order!) and the beans (definitely order two!). Our plates came with the cornbread muffin (pass on this as well). The two sauces on the table were regular and spicy. We all preferred the consistency and flavor of the regular. The spicy is very thin, more vinegary, and lacks both heat and flavor. This is not the place for groups; we were lucky enough to get the last table inside for 4. More people than that, take it to go and find a park nearby to enjoy your meal. The entire staff is friendly and very welcoming. Recently, I've been looking for barbecue places to visit here in the Denver area. My luck hasn't been that great. Roaming Buffalo BBQ has been on my list for a couple of months now, and I had the opportunity to go and see if it was as good as it looked. It didn't disappoint! Of course, I had to get the two meat plate and chose to go with brisket on the fat side as well as pork ribs. The brisket was absolutely tender and literally melted in my mouth. The pork ribs were great and were very meaty. I had an opportunity to speak with, the man who smokes the meat and he lets the brisket go for 16 hours at less than 200° so you can only imagine why it's so tender now! I have to say my favorite side was the cilantro lime coleslaw, which is just a flavor explosion with red pepper, cilantro, lime, kale, cabbage you name it! And one more thing, they aren't called Roaming Buffalo just cause it's a cool name, but you might want to try their Buffalo ribs too. This little gem of a restaurant is located just west of DU and north of Dartmouth and Yale. They open at 11 typically and are usually closed some time between two and four depending on how fast they run out of food. Finally here to extinguish BBQ urges that was running wild and after today's trip, it's extinguished for good but I will definitely come back. Next time will be right after they open. Got here around 12 and line was out the door. But it wasn't long before I got to order and Sat with a number in hand. I love the sausages and briskets and ended up getting real McCoy and few side dishes and tip, sat me back over $20. It's money well spent. When i got the food, it was piled up so high that I was nibbling from the sides and dipping into their delicious spicy bbq sauces. Finally had courage to cut the sandwich in half and still had hard time eating it. No wonder one of the server said "good luck". I needed it. Pro tip- get here early because they sell out of stuff throughout the day and the later you come in, the less they have available. I got the Bison ribs (delicious) and the brisket(a little dry but we did get there at the end of the day). The cornbread muffin was good- a little dry. But the strawberry jam and butter on it was amazing. The collard greens were some of the best I've ever had. The mac and cheese was pretty good too. The bbq sauce they use is vinegar based and they have two versions- spicy and regular. I liked the spicy version better but everyone is different.
