When it comes to classics, this is the place to be. A local burger spot in Sanger, the community here is very inviting both staff and locals. The area has no indoor seating, but has outdoor tables giving it a traditional grab and go type feel. Even in packaging you still receive your food order in a brown paper bag. The nostalgia is amazing! The fries were the normal wavy cut with seasoning, but the burger and shake? That's something to talk about. The burger was made fresh and juicy. Even the bacon you can tell was just made. Not sitting on a tray all day. Extremely fresh and very flavorful! The shake I order was what they called the Boston shake. 2025 big mamas is so different. The shakes got smaller and they raised the price on them, same thing with the burgers. The burgers are good and very filling. Burgers come with a large size order of fries. I paid 28.79 for #1 with a small Boston shake & #7 with soda. read more

This burger joint has been here forever! The hubby gets the #7 double western bacon cheeseburger with a big strawberry banana Boston shake. I usually get the baby burger & share his fries which are sooo good! Food is always made to order so you will be waiting just a bit. With all the business they get they are still very nice. It is old fashion & do have tables outside to sit on to eat or wait for the food.. I do recommend this place 100%. The only thing is they went up up on the prices but everything is now days. read more

Well, I wanted to do an update on Big Mamas in the city of Sanger. I was there a couple of weeks ago and of course, I stopped by and ordered a combination cheeseburger, fries, and drink. The prices are fantastic cheap and the food is quality you get a lot of quantity the customer service is friendly and courteous. The structure may look old and a little depleted, but the great food makes up for it. FYI I have a typo in my last review, which I've tried to edit, but for some reason, I can't, it states, "all the males" when it should say "all the meals" Sorry about that. No hate :) It was weird walking up to the establishment and actually seeing lips LOL. Deja vu pre-covid days. I'm not sure why I had this spot bookmarked, maybe from the travel channel?! Anyhoo I got a #5 combo that came with a deluxe burger, small fries and a small drink for around $7! Yes only SEVEN dollars! I don't know what their large looks like but I seriously thought they hooked me up with Large Fries and a Large drink. If this is their small, then you definitely get a bang for your buck here! Their burgers remind me of a backyard burger no frills, just the usual lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickles and secret sauce (thousand island) on a toasted bun. Fries are made extra crispy (without having to ask) and seasoned with season salt. Cash is king, 50 cents charge if paying with card. Big Mamas is one of those local places that has been around for what seems like forever and you want to keep it that way. My go-to order is always the Texas Bacon with Cheese or the Double Texas Bacon with Cheese when I'm really hungry. It's hard to finish the burger because it's so big compared to fast food burgers. When I do, I'm overstuffed because of the amount of crinkle cut fries that comes with the meal. The fries are seasoned, but I noticed they use seasoning less than they used to. If you're picky about lettuce, please note they use shredded lettuce. They also utilize a generic ketchup so it is less thick than Heinz and less sweet. The wait can be considerable so I recommend calling ahead. There will still be a wait but not as long as it could be. read more

I just moved to Sanger 2 weeks ago. I heard the raves about big mamas I thought I had to try! I have had a pastrami sandwich and then a separate time a deluxe burger! Both were great! Bad service.. the person taking orders wasn't very pleasant. They took about 4 orders after I ordered and served them all before I got my food so I was irritated about that. They got my order wrong and tried to give me more food to make up for taking so long but I just wanted to get out of there at that point. Not worth the money or the wait. read more

This place is the best. I love their fried shrimp and their corn dogs. My husband loves the huge hamburgers 2 for $5.80. Banana milkshake is the bomb. The fries are crispy and seasoned. Small town burger joint perfection. I mean, it's called Big Mamas, and that's reason enough. If you're imagining a corpulent woman smiling away and flipping burgers in the back of a shed to give to her kin on a family cookout, you're not far off. Only there was no big mama, at least on my visits. But that same come-as-you-are feel is what they have going. There's when you have company over when you clean up the house, and when you have kin over, and you sorta kick the mess to one side of the couch so they can sit down. Big Mamas is the latter. I didn't wander around too far on the menu. It's really a burger/fries/shake kind of place, so stick with the basics. They know exactly who they are and they really embrace it. They're a little burger joint, in Sanger California, outside of Fresno. Divey burger joints don't get more ideally situated than this. It's up to you what shake you get. The Boston Shakes are what most people are talking about, though you can start a bit simpler and work your way there. The fries are of the crinkle variety, which isn't my favorite style, but they're fine. Prices are pretty reasonable and comparable to what you'd find at a big chain for a combo meal. There are a few other items on the menu (sandwiches, pastrami) and they have some specials. I haven't been in a bit so I don't want to lead you astray, but do look for signage on what might be a deal when you're there. Side of the road burger stands like this are the lifeblood of the American Road trip. I'm always blown away by how similar they all are, yet how each and every one has some little, unique thing (Texas burgers?) that sets them apart from the field. Whether you're passing through on a trip to Kings Canyon/Sequoia, live nearby, have work in this neck of the woods or just want a burger, this is a fine spot to give some love to Big Mama. read more
