Little shop with big flavor. It's next to Chesters Marketplace and I've honestly driven by without seeing the coffee house next door. It's perfect with lots of parking, lots of syrup choices and mostly lots of coffee! The staff were happy to answer any questions we had and had delicious lattes too. As far as food choices there weren't much just some scones and muffins but we did stop in late at 2pm so maybe they just sold out of a lot of items by then as well. Lots of coffee gifting items in here too along with sampler coffees, mugs and unique tee shirts. If you need coffee this is a great spot to bookmark. read more

Finding decent coffee on the coast is quite the challenge. Thank you to these guys for changing this! At their price point (Which was incredibly low by PORTLAND standards) they are working wonders. Good for dark roast fans, no options for lighter roasts Pros: Nice shop, organic & fair trade, if you like dark roasts, they have some higher quality roasted beans (no bits and pieces like commercial roasters). Cons: No roast date on bags, no range of roasts, and misleading information on roast level Looking for locally roasted beans I was informed that all of their beans are medium roast, and so took a chance and bought a few half-pound bags. These are DEFINITELY not medium roast. All 3 varieties were very dark brown to near black with an oily sheen, and the one they billed as their lightest (Newport Jazz) had a ton of charcoal flavor. A tiny bit of the Sumatra bean character made it through on that one, but otherwise, it was all just levels of roastiness in the flavor, with way too much carbon/char for my taste. On a typical roaster scale all were at least a Full City +, well into second crack, and more like a Vienna/Light French roast or darker. My partner likes a darker roast w/ cream & sugar but even she thought all were overly roasted. It's too bad they don't offer a range with lighter roast levels, as I would like to support a local shop. read more

First visited Big Mountain Coffee House and Roastery two years ago since it's conveniently located next door to our favorite Thriftway in Depoe Bay. One of the few places that has literally a list of customized, inventive mochas. Dropped by earlier this afternoon and I was pleased that business hasn't changed much and love that intense roasted beans aroma upon entering. Nice selection of T shirts, coffee bags repurposed into messenger bags, and other cafe merchandise. It is also a reliable source to pick up the helpful regional milepost travel guide for the Oregon Coast. I had a mocha, but also bought a pound each of their roasts, Coastal Black Bear and Sasquatch. BTW - their beans are fair trade and organically sourced. I look forward to trying them back home along with some Stumptown and Cape Foulweather blends too. The café owner comes across as very knowledgeable about his roasting craft and clearly has a sustainable coastal business - open since 2003. Owner operated and it shows! Traveling through town we needed some good Java and saw this place got great reviews. Ordered a soy latte and an americano, black, which were amazing. The beans are NOT over-roasted and burnt resulting in a rich, full-bodied, sweet and smooth espresso. Perhaps the BEST part of the experience is the cups! A full, corrugated paper cup virtually eliminates the need for a double cup or sleeve -- even on the piping hot americano -- and insulates the coffee long after many other cups would have begun to chill. Small splash sticks show added conscientiousness for the environment as well. A hand sanitation station upon entry, mandatory masks, distance markers and restricted occupancy all provide extra comfort during Covid and the owner was masked as well. Great ORGANIC coffee! I don't know about you but I don't like to start my day with a cup O'pesticides, so I was happy to find a great spot along the 101 with organic, fair trade coffee. Flavor was perfectly balanced and the roast (which they do themselves) was right on point. Not bitter or burnt like you can get at some coffee shops. They also have super cute handmade bags made by iknowhope.com which takes their coffee bean bags and upcycles them. The profits are used to help humanitarian efforts. Each visit to the Oregon Coast, we typically make pilgrimages to another coffee establishment down the road. I have to say ... this shop has great coffee. I also had a super experience. The lady up front was super friendly and fast ... she had our coffee right up and I was handed a punch card straight away - which I loved. Folks - the coffee here is fantastic. Came here for coffee on a Saturday morning. Overall, nothing stupendous and and no major complaints. They had one barista who was also working the cash register so things were a little slow. I got a 12oz chai and my boyfriend got their cuban latte. Prices were okay. Neither drink was anything special. I kind of wish we were asked if we were staying or not and that drinks might be served in a mug or something because the paper cup kind of took away from things. Everyone else who was staying there (three other people) were also drinking from paper cups. They apparently have wifi, but no signs about password and their barista seemed too busy and we didn't want to bother her so we didn't use it. The pastries were bland looking and so even though we hadn't eaten, we skipped on those. We stopped in here while staying at the beach. We tried coming in the past but their hours are very limited. They are only open until 11:00. The woman at the counter was friendly and the coffee shop had cute decor. They have some cute artistic and gift items. We had drip coffee and I inquired about flavored creamer, which they didn't have, but she did add a couple pumps of flavor to my cup and I added the creamer they had available. The coffee was what you'd expect. They did have a small case with some pastries that looked good. read more

Not kid friendly!! We come here quite often with our 4 kids as it's in walking distance to the beach house we visit. The lattes and mochas are hit and miss but the drip coffee is consistent and strong. We enjoy going cause it's close and the atmosphere is neat but we prefer our coffee from up the road. I feel like I keep a fairly tight rein on my kids but our toddler was walking around and touched one of the small glass plates on display. So I collected the 4 plates and set them up on the counter above so he wouldn't be tempted to continue to touch them and the large man came out from the coffee making station barking loudly "gain control of your kid and don't rearrange my coffee shop". The place was empty, but I'm a serious coffee drinker and this place looked kind of promising, so my GF and I stop in around 9 am yesterday. After 'Mr Natural' likely the owner finally comes out from around a curtain, I asked the simple question 'How fresh is the drip coffee?' Because if it's been more than 15-20 minutes, I will order an Americano or Latte. Easy, right? Not here. The owner proceeds to yell at us that his 'coffee is ALWAYS FRESH!' So I try a different tack and ask, 'how long ago was the coffee made?' and then he YELLS LOUDER at me 'SIR! I operate a coffee ROASTING business! - my coffee is ALWAYS FRESH!!' Sure, right until it's not. I don't drink my coffee at home after 20 minutes and I wasn't going start here. I will order an Americano or other espresso drink if the java in the insulated dispenser has been around that long. But in light of the proprietor's rude 'tude we left, and the place was still empty. That coffee will probably still be 'fresh' in that pot tomorrow. I recommend moving along for coffee in and around Depoe Bay. read more

I love Big Mountain coffee house! Their blended espresso fusion drinks (think Frappucinos!) are the best I have had on the Oregon coast!!! And they pretty much have any flavor combo you could want or variety of milk (ie; almond, soy) The barista is super-friendly, the owner always remembers my order, the bakery selection is great from next door's Depoe Baykery and their prices are reasonable.
