The perfect stop for some snacks on our drive. They had a huge assortment of smoked meats and fish ready to eat. We sampled the smoked shrimp and it was delicious. They have a large assortment of frozen specialties fish, beef and other farm table products as well as locally made cheeses and spreads and canned items. Service was amazingly friendly. Very disappointing experience. I drove 30 minutes each way after being told this place was the best and was excited to try them for the first time. Unfortunately, the service did not live up to the hype. I paid for smoking, flavoring, and individual vacuum sealing in small packages. What I received was a disorganized mess. None of the packages were labeled, and everything was tossed into a box with two loose labels floating around--we had no idea which flavor was which. Several packages were leaking, and many were poorly sealed with air inside. That completely defeats the purpose of vacuum sealing, which is meant to preserve the fish. Before writing this review, I contacted the business. I was told to "just eat the poorly sealed ones first." Really? We paid extra for vacuum sealing to avoid having to rush through the fish. I was also reminded that the seals aren't guaranteed, which I understand--but they should at least be sealed properly when I pick them up. They sell meat in their store, and I guarantee they wouldn't sell anything in the condition they gave me. I love supporting local businesses, but as customers, we also have to be mindful of where we spend our money. This wasn't a cheap service, and the lack of care and follow-through and customer service was incredibly disappointing. read more

I am writing this review as a one time visitor, but my mom has visited a bunch of times and brought me to this shop specifically when I was in town from out of state. I was very impressed by the products sold and the pricing. The employees were friendly and helpful and offered to sample out a number of different items for us to try them. They have lots of different meats and seafoods including some more rare meats (like alligator and frog legs). They also have a good variety of non-meat products like desserts and drinks... as well as Michigan-made snacks and candies. Everything I taste-tested was delicious! We ended up purchasing some smoked trout, some salmon jerky and some fancy little ice cream bar treats. read more

Frozen then unthawed fish is not meant to be smoked. This place takes over 2 weeks for a simple custom smoke. I would not advise you to purchase any smoke fish if you don't like nasty stinky fish taste. The staff and management have no clue on customer service. THUMBS DOWN ! read more

I visited big o today for the first time. The clerk did not maintain social distance nor was anyone wearing a mask. I asked him why and he said they practice social distancing which he said as he was standing right next to me when he came around the counter to show me frozen food and never backed off 6 feet. The salmon is frozen or smoked, not fresh and the salmon is all farm raised. I spent 80 dollars on 4 fillets , syrup and honey. I won't be back because they don't get it. I would have asked to speak to the manager but he wasn't wearing a mask either. I won't be back. read more

Ok, I am not hard to please because I'm not a picky eater. But that means I enjoy just about everything so rarely am I rattled by some kind of food. But this RATTLED ME! I had the smoked salmon and some salmon jerky and oh my stars I could eat this for every meal for the rest of my life. Please never stop making it! read more

This place is awesome!! Best smokehouse I've ever been to by far. Very friendly staff and owners and place is kept very clean. They have just about anything you can think of for meats and fish. If they don't have have it, they'll get it for you. Prices are great and you can find their products in a lot of West Michigan grocery stores too. read more

first of all I would like to say good product but the worst place to ever do bussisness with I'm a small buss. owner usually ordered around 300 a week from them until they got a big contract from a big chain store now for over six weeks they tell me they don't have the products but the big chain does don't figure so I drive to there buss. to see and I'm told I can buy it at retail not wholesale like I usually get well since the last 6 weeks they lost 2 other smaller buss. and I will now be the 3rd not a good way to run a buss. because when you lose the big store contract you have to depend on the little guy and if they keep losing the little guy then you have no buss.thanks for reading had to get off my chest after building a buss. for 2 years and now cant get product it SUCKS. read more

For the past several years, Big O Smokehouse has processed meat for us and we've always been pleased. However, something (management?) seems to have changed recently. Processing used to take only a few weeks and be finished in time for the holidays. This year, we inquired after five weeks and received a vague and unhelpful response that, basically, they would get to it when they get to it. We understand that the focus and priorities of the establishment might have changed. However, if they are no longer interested in doing processing for others, they should get out of that aspect of the business. read more
