We enjoyed our meal there tonight. It was recommended by some friends while we were I. The area. The fried catfish was outstanding and super fresh . The coleslaw was good as were the fries . The staff is helpful but not overbearing. We will stop here the next time we are in Bay Springs. read more

Quaint little family seafood place. Good atmosphere. Food not so much. Fish was ok. Shrimp was ok. Neither were worth writing about. Coleslaw was borderline gross. Raw cabbage swimming in sugared mayonnaise is, conceptually, pretty foul and when they added to pickle slivers it turned it into garbage. Ordering Fried Green Tomatoes is usually an exercise in disappointment. Big O's was no exception. The fried tomatoes were red not green and cooked to a mush instead of being crispy and tart. Moved. Not even remotely the same. (Old review) Clean and well run. Authentic restaurant that would be right at home on the Gulf Coast. We happened upon Big O's when we driving around trying to get purposely lost. Bay Springs is a charming little town and this restaurant was one of those rare finds you always hope to find in small town South (but rarely do). We both had poboys and slaw. More southern style than Cajun, but very good. They have a large supply of shellfish and fish on display in the seafood case right when you walk in, so you can see the freshness up close. Also homemade sauces on the table. I'll be back, and it was worth the 20 minute drive from nearby Laurel. read more

Wish I could give no stars. Worst restaurant experience ever. Horrific staff, cold food, flavorless food, and blamed the patrons for the mix up with an order. We sat at a booth which was covered in sticky who knows what. We ended up moving to a table. Wait staff talked poorly of the customers behind their back, in ear shot of customers. We ordered five dishes, one of which we changed to a to go dish (my mother had to leave abruptly). Three dishes were brought the the table well after we ordered, but only after we had to direct the waitress to our table, after she almost delivered them to the incorrect table. We patiently waited for the remaining two dishes. After 20 plus minutes, I inquired about the status of the other dishes. The rude, abrupt waitress (the horrible one talking poorly of my mother behind her back) scoffed and proceeded to bring a copy of the receipt to ensure we were being honest about the remaining two dishes ordered. She begrudgingly acknowledged that, yes we did have two dishes not yet delivered. Another waiter came to the table and defensively and incorrectly stated "Well nobody told me the order was to go." After some time a cold dish of flavorless fish (clearly pulled from freezer bag) was plopped down in front of me. Still no sign of the remaining to go order. We finally called for a manager. The manager came to the wrong table and started to explain to them why the order had been messed up. For the second time, we had direct a member of the staff, this time the manager, to our table (there were only 5 tables occupied of the whole restaurant). The manager finally brought the to go order of shrimp, she proceeded to belabor us with anecdotes about other customers dinning experiences. When she finally asked about our issues, we had had enough and proceeded to leave (we paid for the entire meal before - is was counter service). Ironically enough when we were loading up into the car a local policeman appeared and parked right behind us, and followed us out of the lot. It appeared that the police had been called to ensure we had left. Note at no point were we loud, treating, or even rude. We just brought up issues that normal city causal dining restaurants would be appalled at. In short, the restaurant is run by incompetent and rude staff that make no effort to provide even normal levels of customer service or a decent meal. Will not be dining here again. Would actively avoid. read more

I love their crab legs and gumbo! It's a pretty good seafood restaurant. They take call-in orders too which is a bonus.

Happened upon Big O's Seafood while the original restaurant we were going to was closed for Easter weekend. This was one of the most excellent "happened upon" restaurants I have ever been to. Driving up you may think , oh no... This isn't going to work out too well but just keep on moving inside!!! The restaurant was very clean and very well run. The staff was over and beyond friendly and we really enjoyed visiting with them. The food was amazing and among some of the best seafood I have eaten anywhere including the gulf coast!! Definitely get some crabs legs!! Snow crab legs were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of seasoning. If you opt for medium or hot- you might prepare yourself. We got medium and they had a lot of spice to them. Stuffed crab were wonderful and cooked perfectly. Fried shrimp was hand-battered fresh as well as the catfish. Wonderful dining experience in the small town of Bay Springs!! We will definitely be back!!!! read more
