Disappointed. I visit Meridian 2 or 3 times a year and stay at hotels within walking distance of the restaurant. Establishment was very dirty including dining room, counter, cooking area. I counted 5 employees, one dinner guest and myself at dinner time. Almost all employees were walking around behind the counter or in drive-thru with their personal drink in their hand. Very unprofessional. One employee sat on the food prep table in front of me while I was waiting on my order. The catfish was good but now I'm questioning the cleanliness of the whole operation. read more

I normally stop here whenever I'm in Meridian, Ms. Last night was the worse I've witnessed at any restaurant, it was only young people in there working. Went to place my order the girl was on her phone texting had to wait until she finished her text before she could take my order , she didn't know anything about the menu, then when you told her what you wanted someone else would put it in the cash register, when she told you your total she didn't know how to count to give me my change cell phone in one hand trying to work the register , I told her that she didn't give me the correct change she should have given me $5.60 instead she handed 51 cents I gave her $40 still with the phone in her hand, the crawfish platter and the catfish platter and two drinks,we had to wait for 5 minutes to get a cup. I asked for my catfish to be extra extra crispy. When we got the order it was a platter of fries with maybe 8 tiny crawfish not enough for 15.99, when I opened the fish I broke off a piece to see if it was like I wanted it , it wasn't I took it back I gave it to the cashier and explained to her that it wasn't like I ordered it wasn't crispy enough, she gave it to the big guy to show him he cursed and said that I had bitten off it but I didn't I broke a small piece off of it I left the counter and a few minutes she brought me the same fish accused me of eating off of it . She than-he said he would cook me a couple more mind you I ordered a platter and he said he would cook me a couple more pieces, I waited for 20 more minutes to redo the fish, I went back to ask about my order she told me that she had forgotten about it still with the cell phone in one hand, finally after another five minutes they brought me three small pieces of fish that still like I ordered with nothing else my sides were cold by the time I finally got the fish I just gave up and left. The cell phone is not to try to work with no one bothered to say I'm sorry or anything. No customer service of any kind the meal from hell, this is on a Saturday night people that had to go orders where constantly coming back because there orders wasn't right and upset about it they didn't care at all. read more

Great local spot right off I-20. Friendly staff, relatively fast, with dine-in, takeout, and drive through options. We tried two varieties of the fried catfish - filet and bone-in - and the popcorn shrimp. If you can eat around bones, definitely get the bone-in catfish. It's much more tender and fresh tasting. Definitely the favorite of our group. The filets weren't bad, and neither was the poboy, but not the best we've ever had. Popcorn shrimp was kind of meh. Of the sides, we quite liked the coleslaw and the hushpuppies, both of which were slightly sweeter than average. If you order the mashed potatoes, get the gravy on the side so you can dip your fries in gravy. Overall, very good stop if traveling though Meridian. read more

(Wish I would have just gone to Jimmy Johns) I ordered a basic catfish meal & it comes with fries, hush puppies, & coleslaw. I ordered fried okra on the side (starter menu). The okra was fried about a minute too long. Some were fried so long there was nothing left in the middle. The fries were cold (Luke at best) & the coleslaw was disgusting. Hush puppies are clearly pre-frozen & fried... absolutely NO FLAVOR. Catfish was also frozen & seasoning was salty. (* I'm from the Mississippi gulf coast so I know true seafood, & fish so I may be a little biased.) I guess if you know REAL Southern catfish... this will not make you happy. Bless their hearts... they tried. The basic tarter sauce they served was - well, basic tarter. Make your own decision. There may be other things that are good. read more

Great stop in Meridian on our journey home. The seafood at Zac's was perfectly seasoned and reasonably priced. The service was great. It is a small establishment off the interstate. My husband and I both ordered the pick 2 with catfish and shrimp. We were able to easily substitute out the fries and coleslaw for other sides. I selected the Mac and cheese and green beans. Both were okay, but nice portion sizes. My hubby had the mashed potatoes and gravy. I thoroughly enjoyed the fried catfish. It had a great flavor and was seasoned and fried to perfection. My daughter ordered the grilled cheese kids meal and funnel cake fries. She enjoyed both. It was a beautiful day so we decided to sit outside. They have a nice patio outside and the staff is kind enough to bring your meals outdoors. The sweet tea was also pretty good as well. It is sometimes tricky finding freshly brewed sweet tea with right sweetness. Good job Zac's! We will definitely return. read more

Fairly good food Good service The floors are incredibly dangerous and slick myself and several other customers nearly fell and my daughter actually did fall due to the slickness of the floor. Other than that a few pieces of fish had undercooked areas but nothing worth raising a stink but the floor is a HUGE safety issue that is a huge liability to make business. read more

Great food. We all had popcorn shrimp, but different sides. We had Mashed Potatoes with gravy, hush puppies, fries, baked beans, Texas toast. All were GREAT, except for the gravy on the mash, wish their was a white country gravy choice over the brown. The service was great, but the manage lady was very rude to her staff while we were there, and it was really awkward. The inside was kind of dirty on the floor, but the tables were nice and clean. I've had their catfish filet plates/platters (don't remember what it's called) 3 or 4 times. The first few times were good. But the last time was the week after the big power outage a few months back and the catfish was spoiled. It was a to go order. So it wasn't like I could walk back to the counter to complain. But it was a horrible experience. I feel like they decided not to toss the thawed out fish and went ahead and served it. But I'll never go back there. It wasn't just one piece. I took a bite from each piece just to make sure it wasn't a bad piece or two and it was all of it. I had to spit out every bite I tried. I'm giving it a 2 star because of the previous good visits. We stopped as we were passing through Meridian. We asked for suggestions as we have never been before. The front man suggested with try the popcorn shrimp po-boy and fries. We loved both. The shrimp was small lightly breaded on a really fresh hoagie style bun. Served with Mayo, lettuce and tomato. Fries were seasoned well and very crispy. Hot!! The tartar sauce and cocktail sauce were both the best I have had at a restaurant in many years. They make it themselves. We will definite plan to stop again. Bathrooms and dining areas were clean. The food was amazing - can only imagine how good it might have been during prime business hours. We were traveling from SC to Texas and things were closing up everywhere. Places were open but out of food or had just not turned their sign off. We got lucky and they served us the last of what they had just before closing. Amazing food. Found these place by yelp it's not just a 1/4 mile if that off i20 right in front off Hilton. It's a little dive restaurant with country and cajun menu- po boy, hamburgers steaks , fried fish, hush puppies greens gumbo to naMe a few. Has about 15 tables inside. Has we wait I began these review. Bathrooms are singles with changing tables. Needs some touch up in cleanness. The table we sat at was sticky but the ones around use also felt sticky. Got fried pickles they was good, didn't get cups asked guy that brought out pickles about drinks said we didn't order drinks they didn't give receipt so so proof so we to front and before we can explain it all manager came up and toke care of it, must be new staff.
