I love that local businesses are using the old buildings that have so much character. We had just came from the movies across the parking lot around 6pm on a Saturday. It was super busy with a line waiting. We were seating at a table a lot earlier than excepted. Our server was patient in explaining the menu and did not make us feel rushed. The pepper jack cheese logs are always on our order. I believe there are five to an order with two dipping sauces. We both had the Blackened Redfish Tacos. I went light on the blackened seasoning. Ordered 30 min or less before the kitchen closed. But service was on point and super accommodating. My blackened redfish was good but not the highlight of the meal. The food came out in a timely manner and the service was impeccable. It is a bit dark when trying to read the menu. But the lighting is great for a date. We both enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and remoulade as an appetizer. I had redfish, broccoli, and a salad and it was cooked to perfection. There was a remoulade sauce on it as well. The broccoli was not soggy nor undercooked. It was seasoned very well. The dish my date got was cooked very well. We had no complaints. The prices were reasonable. I usually can find something positive to post about our eating experience. Not today. This restaurant needs major attention. The lighting was so dark but the floor was sticky and filthy so I see why the lights are low. We ordered our meal and it was so overcooked. The steamed veggies were a soft grey mass. Totally mush!!! Blue Crab Grill is one of the better places to eat in Laurel, MS and they offer a nice size serving of food at a good price. The seafood here was overcooked during my visit and all four of us eating found our fish and shrimp overcooked but there were still some good flavors in the food so simply tweaking the cook time and temp a bit could dramatically improve the experience here. I would definitely eat here again but I might not choose the seafood options until I hear they have mastered their seafood cooking skills better. Overall this is an easy spot to park at and the prices seem to be a better value than many of the other restaurants in Laurel, MS. First of all our server, Kit, was awesome. Very accommodating and attentive. My wife loved the shrimp and crab dip. I thought it was ok, but lacked any real flavor, at least to me. My wife had a salad and was very pleased with it. She especially liked the Italian dressing. We both ordered steamed shrimp. I got the royal reds and the portions were plentiful. You choose mild, medium, or hot. My wife chose mild, I opted for medium. I gotta say the medium was hotter than I like. My wife also thought the mild was hot as well. We both left food in our plates. As I said earlier, the portions were plentiful. The dining area was non-descript. Blank concrete walls. The only memorable thing was the dining chairs, since we were unlucky enough to not get a booth. I encountered these in other restaurants and they must be designed for one of two things: skinny people or to make sure diners don't overstay their welcome. To say they are uncomfortable is an understatement. My mom and I are visiting from Florida for the Hattiesburg 1/2 marathon and this place was recommended to us by the AT&T store manager in Midtown Hattiesburg. We are so glad we did! Sam our server did such an exceptional job making sure our dietary needs were covered. Mom and I are gluten sensitive and so can have a difficult time eating southern food, especially battered food, so when we found out that they use corn flour for their jumbo shrimp, we asked about the fried green tomatoes. I am from out of town but I ate at Blue Crab Grill with my husband maybe a week or so ago and had the most awful service from Sam. She came off as very rude and uninterested in us. We almost never got refills and she was very slow to attend to us. I told my close friend about this experience and she told me that about a month ago she had a similar experience but with a different server, Kitt. She told me that Kitt came off as mean and unapproachable. That she never smiled at them once. She said that she believes she heard her or someone else yelling in the kitchen, which is very unprofessional. She also said that she food was tasty and warm but very dry in the top. I am assuming they leave the food under a heat lamp. The worst part about all of this is that when I called to speak with the manager about the issue and all she did was laugh and hang up in my face! Her name was Amy. I was not truly upset about the issue until I spoke with the manager and she seemed like she could not care less. I hope this review gets to the owner and anyone else who considers eating there. read more

The staff is amazingly friendly and kind at this place in Laurel, MS. The menu isn't overwhelming, and they have different options from crab cakes and shrimp and grits, to po-boys, to steamers. The appetizers all sound delicious, but we went with a couple different things to try: 1) Crab Stack -- crab cake was great. Mostly crab inside (which is a win in and of itself) that's been perfectly fried. The crawfish joubille sauce is amazing and I'm sure would go great on absolutely anything you smothered it on. The fried green tomato was so yummy. Again, perfectly fried with that beautiful green tomato punch. 2) Spicy Hushpuppies -- delicious. They're fried to sheer perfection and perfectly tender on the inside. They aren't spicy though, so don't think they will be. For our entrees we got: 1) Catfish PoBoy -- my partner said that it was good, it wasn't great. But good. 2) Jazzy Shrimp PoBoy -- the shrimp had a great flavor to it! It was crispy and delicious. It was pretty good. 3) Steamer w/ Jumbo Shrimps and Royal Reds -- the menu says it comes with a 1/2lb of shrimp, but this bad boy came with much more than that. I could only finish about 1/3 of the shrimp that came on my plate. The medium heat is not spicy at all, and I wish I would've gone with hot -- but the flavor was still good! Though, most of my shrimp were uncleaned and that was a frustration while eating. The potatoes were perfectly tender, the corn was over cooked, and the sausage was interesting. Definitely not n'rlins standard, but nonetheless an okay sandwich. My girlfriend had a steamer which had at least a pound of shrimp, and the flavor was "great" in her words. WOW...my husband and I enjoyed our meal at The Blue Crab! We ordered the Fries Green Tomatoes for a appetizer and they were DELICIOUS!!! We ordered the Catfish/Shrimp dinner to share with okra, fries and hush puppies. This also was piping hot and delicious. There was so much food that we couldn't even finish it all. Phoebe was our waitress and she was remarkable! She was so kind and pleasant and answered all of our questions. She took very good care of us! My wife and I had a great dinner tonight at the Blue Crab. It was our second visit and each time we were greeted with smiles even though they were busy and juggling guests. Tonight, our waitress, Rillie did a great job taking care of us and even covered for a few kitchen mistakes. Her recommendations were spot-on and her smile and positive attitude are heart-warming. My Redfish covered in shrimp and crawfish sauce was lights-out! My wife had some steamed or boiled healthy stuff that she really enjoyed. She obviously cares more about her figure than me and I am grateful! If you are in Laurel visiting, Blue Crab is the place to go. Remember to ask for one of Rillie's tables.
