This was our third time visiting Big Oyster Brewery in Lewes, and unfortunately, it will likely be our last. Our first visit a few years ago was excellent. We enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere so much that we made it a point to come back the following year. That second visit was just okay. The food and service weren't quite as good, but we chalked it up to an off day and decided to give it another chance this year. Unfortunately, the third visit was the worst of the three. We were initially seated near the stage where the music was so loud that we could barely hear each other talk. To their credit, the host was accommodating and moved us to another table when we asked. However, our server's response was disappointing. She made a passive-aggressive comment along the lines of, "That's fine if you move, I just won't make as much money." Not exactly something guests expect to hear when simply asking for a quieter table. The food was bland and arrived at different times. Some dishes were cold by the time they reached the table. Several drinks were forgotten, and we had to remind our server multiple times before receiving them. We also spoke with management about our experience, but they seemed largely uninterested and didn't appear concerned about addressing the issues. The one bright spot is the outdoor area. It's a great space with lawn games, a playground, and plenty of room to relax. If you're looking for a place to have a drink outside and let the kids play, it serves that purpose well. For us, though, the combination of poor service, inconsistent food quality, and lack of concern from management means we won't be returning. read more

Very impressed with BOB. Restaurant very busy and in spite of this we sat right down to eat. Our waiter was prompt and attentive. Our food arrived promptly. My meal was delicious. Grouper was fresh and a significant size to satisfy my appetite. My daughter and grandsons had a great time in the playground. We'll be back soon. read more

This seafood restaurant is set away from the busy route 1 highway but just several minutes away from the Tanger outlet mall. Was worth visiting! In spite the busyness, my party of 5 was able to get seated fairly quick, since we chose to sit outside. Though it was a muggy day, there was a nice breeze out in the area by the kids activities. This play area is probably the best draw if you have a family with young kids as there's a playground, ping pong table, cornhole, fuse ball tables, basketball hoops and even an area to kick the ball in the sand. My 7-year old had a blast while we waited for our food. Came here bc of a friend's rec. Got the full steamer pot to share with hubby that came an assortment of clams, mussels, shrimps along with a corn and a few bratwurst. It was yummy but definitely could've had more. Kids said their salmon kids meal were ok as salmon was a bit overcooked and lacking seasoning, however their side of fried brussel sprouts were delicious. My friend seemed to have enjoyed her chicken Philly cheesesteak. Would come back again to take advantage of HH special between 4-6pm, which only applies when inside the restaurant as it would've been 1/2 the price for the steamer pot. read more

After seeing such high reviews, I decided to give Big Oyster Brewery a shot. With that known, I have to say that Big Oyster Brewery is a bit overrated. To start, I ordered the tavern wings for an appetizer and they were solid. To explain, the wings were crispy, but a bit dry. Furthermore, the sauce was spicy with a hint of sweetness. The wings would have been great if they weren't overcooked. After that, I ordered the fried oysters with tater tots and mac and cheese for my entree. With that being said, the fried oysters were decent. To expand, the oysters tasted fresh and they were tender. However, the coating was bland and uninspiring. In the same manner, the tater tots were nothing special. To breakdown, the tots were hot and crispy, but they were just frozen tots. Likewise, the mac and cheese was just boxed mac and cheese. It honestly tasted like Panera's mac and cheese. It's a shame that they didn't put more effort into the sides. In the long haul, Big Oyster Brewery is just a run of the mill seafood restaurant. read more

We have been coming here for years, and this time we were very disappointed. In the past we have recommended Bob's too many people who come to Lewis, Rehoboth and Dewey. We learned a while ago that if you're doing happy hour, you have to sit in a certain spot. OK, no problem. So we came here for my wife's 65th birthday and we wanted a table for 10 in the happy hour area. They said there was no table for 10 available. Clearly there were two tables aside of each other that could've been combined together. Finally, we took two separate tables and combined them ourselves. I spoke to the manager about it to tell him my disappointment, he said he would get back to me on it. Never did. Our meals did not come out together. First ones came and the rest followed about 10 minutes later. My wife's food and my daughter-in-law's food were cold. The flavoring on the clams were nonexistent. They were cooked too long which made them chewy and were served cold. Very disappointed. read more

Have to say one of the worst meals of 2025. To start off they give you way too many menus , some items are repeated and it just causes way too much confusion. Our waitress was either new or just didn't get much training. Drinks came, and some were ok others they didn't enjoy. Appetizers were ordered as well as our mains....Only half of the appetizers came out, no waitress insight. Finally she comes around and I guess she forgot to put mine in ( also earlier she couldn't read her own handwriting and had to ask for our order again, for some) . Apps were pretty bad, a chicken noodle soup that had no broth and just a clumpy mess...Fried calamari that was so over cooked, must have gotten fried a couple of times, hard and fish, steamed clams that were gritty, spicy chili sliders were also disappointing. The best is that these items were never eaten, just left on the table and the waitress never picked up on it to ask is anything wrong. Entrees also disappointed, crab cakes weee so so, grilled cheese with beef ate half, chicken wrap half it was so unmemorable. There were other entrees but nothing stands out. I also tried ordering another beer as others order other drinks and they just took forever to get them...I believe mine was forgotten again. The best part is we went the night it has 25% off the check...Our waitress forgot to apply the 25% off...No need to go back here. read more

We stopped here on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch and a couple of drinks. The food was okay- we tried the fried fish sandwich special and the ahi tuna sandwich. Both were fine but lacking in flavor. We also sampled a variety of beers on the menu. As expected from Big Oyster, all of their brews were very good and they had a lot of good summer-style beers to choose from. They also offered a full menu of wine, mixed drinks, and mocktails. I'm so happy that I found this spot while visiting Delaware. Big Oyster Brewery is a huge dining/ brewing facility with more than enough space to fit a ton of people. I didn't have reservations and was seated immediately. It was cold at the time of my visit so, the outdoor area was enclosed by a tent with heaters available. We weren't super hungry at the time so, I only had a platter of oysters (a must) and a beer flight. If memory serves, you can choose your own flight. The pricing of the oysters was great! Was excited to try this restaurant while in town during the Fourth of July weekend which happened to be during the heat wave. We specifically chose this restaurant because of the indoor dining. Knowing it was going to be busy and so hot we were prepared to wait but were pleasantly surprised when the hostess told us 10 minutes for indoor seating. After waiting about 20 minutes and seeing many other large parties get seated we went to check to make sure we were in the system correctly, during that time they said we were going to be the next table to be sat, we were not and actually witnessed the hostess sit the wrong group due to them complaining about wait times over hearing them say "who sat them it was the other groups table". We had then been waiting about 30 minutes not losing hope in our seating because we were very excited to try it we waited. During this time another hostess came up to us asking if we wanted to sit on the porch which we explicitly stated we did not want to when we arrived after explaining this we were told that it was going to be at least another 45 minutes so at this point the 10 minute wait turned into a 75 minute wait. So we decided that we would go to the porch because they said it was air conditioned which to be fair it was but considering it was 100 degrees and there were no windows to keep any of the air in it was still extremely uncomfortable and hot which was especially frustrating for us because we did not want to be in the heat which was expressed to them multiple times. The only saving grace for this situation was our waiter Chinh if I could give him an individual rating it would be 5/5, and is the only reason why we did not walk out after being sat. Very disappointed with the hostess and I hope that the management can help to make this more smooth. read more

First let me say, I didn't get pictures of all the different things we ate. We went to Big Oyster on Wednesday which was oyster night and we got there early for happy hour. There were four of us so we tried a variety of things. I got the calamari and a wedge salad. Both were delicious. The calamari was served with a Thai chili sauce. The wedge was everything I love about a wedge salad. Plenty of blue cheese, bacon, egg, tomatoes and a very good blue cheese dressing. My husband got the fried oyster appetizer and cream of crab soup. Nice size oysters and he loved the soup. My sister's friend got the soup as well and key lime pie. He was a little disappointed in the pie but again loved the soup. My sister got the cheesesteak egg rolls. She wasn't crazy about the egg rolls and said she wouldn't get them again. She said they had a nice flavor but not enough meat in them and she said they were greasy. We both also got a dozen oysters and they were a nice size and very flavorful. read more

Another fantastic visit, they are my number one love to visit brewery; both food & beer are delicious! We dined inside to enjoy happy hour, then brought our last beer outside to enjoy the spaced out patio- it's fascinating each summer visit to see how much they are growing- this visit we saw the added basketball hoop & upcoming volleyball area- they are creating a hangout ambiance- can't wait to see what they do with the space- only woe (they should move towards 'renting' the play equipment pieces- since kids are encouraged to run around the playground, the more adult things (corn hole, foosball, ping pong) have taken a hit- I wanted to play with my daughter, but all the balls were missing- accountability, lend your ID get a ball, return it, get it back, that would make the space more functionable but overall, another great visit! read more

If you're looking for a place to relax outside with a beer, this isn't it. Full of kids yelling and screaming. Pet friendly but if your dog is shy (like mine is) and kids keep coming up, wanting to touch her, it's a bad combo. Beer was meh. I wouldn't go back just because of the amount of kids. For some reason, I was expecting potatoes or celery. Kinda like NE clam chowder, but with tender whole oysters. Cream of Crab Soup was also excellent. Kinda like a lobster bisque, but with crab. One of the best Lobster Rolls I've had in a while, large with big pieces. Oh, the beers are good, too. Great service. Never been to Claws, but I prefer this place over its sister Fins. read more

Amazing happy hour and friendly service. Been a few times and overall I would say the beer has improved. What I got today was really tasty. My wife also got muscles with white wine sauce that she really enjoyed. I got the taco trio and it wasn't for me. I didn't finish it because I got a really fishy tasing bite (non-fish tacos, I don't eat fish). I'm sure if I had complained they would have fixed it. But I didn't want to, so that's on me. We stayed at the MarBella nearby and as soon as I saw the big fresh oysters sign on the side of the building, we parked and went in. It's in a row of cute buildings meant to look old and rustic. Inside is decorated with a bunch of vintage oyster gear and cans, and there's a nice patio outside. The main bar was buzzing, but we were seated in the quieter dining area. We ordered a half dozen of each type of oyster, they offered four total, and absolutely loved them. Experience wasn't even worth 1 star, but you have to make some choice in order to post a review! Sat at the bar. Bartender says "here's some paper for you" and proceeds give us 3 different menus on the bar. Too much to look at. That aside, she took our beer order, my husband had a flight and she got one of the beers wrong. We thought she was going to write it down, but just stared at my husband waiting for the beers he was choosing, saying "Go ahead" and that got it wrong. There was no further conversation. We had to ask her to order an appetizer. Shrimp was ok. After that, no interaction with any of the bar staff. Glasses are empty and no one asked if we'd like a refill until the manager came to the bar for something and noticed our empty glasses. Original bartender, we assume left for the day but didn't advise us as most places let you know that shifts are changing. After an hour with no request to see if we wanted to order any additional food, we asked for our check and left. Advised situation to the manager who we advised was the light in this scenario, but he didn't seem overly concerned with the report of poor service. Won't be going back any time soon. Outdoor seating was enjoyable on a warm November day. The beer selection was admirable and we got flights. The lunch menu had many options and I opted for the half sandwich and half salad lunch special. The citrus salad was very good but the shrimp salad sandwich was disappointing and very runny which made the bread soggy and had a very strong onion flavor and very few shrimp. First time here, located in Lewes between Route 1 and the ferry. Had a flight (Pils, Light lager, Mexican Lager, and red ale). Really liked the Mexican Lager the best. The Pils and Red were good. The light lager was too light. My wife and I shared the crab dip, and it was fantastic. The place is off the road a bit inna big red barn. Also has large outdoor area with a stage.
