    King sized bed, futon.
    Cindy J.

Clean, spacious rooms right next door to the Big Texan restaurant. After eating one of their big steaks, I was so glad we only had to walk a few steps next door to the motel. Check-in was a breeze, all details were sent by text message so we didn't even have to stop at the front office. The attention to details in the room is outstanding. From the saloon door to the boot lamp to the charging port right by the bed, I appreciated all of the little extras. And the rain shower!! Honestly it felt more like a rainstorm, the water pressure was super high and I got squeaky clean in two seconds lol. The only drawback was the drain couldn't keep up with the amount of water and it was slow draining. The toilet water pressure wasn't as high either, but that's not bad. At the end of the day, this is a motel so the truck that started its engine at 6AM scared the crap out of us thinking a car was coming through the window. You do hear everything. Overall though, a pleasant overnight stay.

The staff overloads and breaks all their washing machines daily. You will have to wait until the staff is done.

The motel staff uses the guest laundry room for the entire motel's bedding laundry. They have broken 3 of the 4 washing machines so far by overloading them. I waited all day before eventually removing the finished wet laundry into the dryer for them so I could do my own laundry. A bewildered staff member entered the room as I was doing so and apologized as she whisked away the dripping sheets in a shopping cart... I tried to contact management but they said nothing. $109 not well spent. There are a perfectly good hotels in walking distance of the restaurant. I sure won't be back.

If you're going to the Big Texan restaurant plan to sleep all that food off at the Big Texan Motel. Made our reservation on Expedia and really liked the communication that the Motel was consistent with. Text me all the details I needed to self check in, the Wi-Fi code, and if I had questions quickly responded. The room was nice big bed, cute decor and a place to leave your mark, they encourage it. I really loved the indoor shutters my poor husband has a project when he gets home now lol We would stay again.

What a cool spot to stay. The motel looks like an old western town. The rooms are also pretty cool. It's like ya stepped back to the western era with a modern feel.

    Big comfortable bed.

My husband and I are on a 4 week cross country road trip. When we decided to stay a night in Amarillo we thought we would check out the Big Texan Motel because it looked quirky and fun. It did not disappoint. The room was really cute and very comfortable. The check in and out process was very easy. Right across the parking lot is The Big Texan Steak Ranch which is a must see. I would highly recommend this motel. We stayed in room 108. Loved it.

We stayed here one night on our road trip to California, expecting an older motel without many amenities. We know it isn't a shiny new chain motel. Still, this place has lots of 'deferred maintenance, to be kind. I'm hoveringbetween 2 and 3 stars. First impression: they send a text so you can do a contactless check in, basically just the code to get into the room. Not a friendly beginning. I was a bit unsure so I went into the office. Another person was there, reporting a toilet leak that had flooded out to the bedroom carpet. She had used a towel to stop it from getting worse. The desk clerk asked if she needed maintenance right away or could it wait. What!?! He didn't even offer her more towels. She was very sweet and said it was fine but it really isn't okay. Then, our room wasn't ready at 3 so we had to drive away with all our luggage and no way to freshen up. Once we returned, we had to carry our luggage up an outside metal staircase that had so much rust there were holes (see photo). Not feeling great about the hotel, we carried in our Lysol words and did a little cleaning of our own. The bathroom was great but the bedside table....ugh! It took multiple wipes to get through the filth. Ditto for the swinging doors to the bathroom. I don't blame the cleaning staff as they are probably told to just dust. So, value for money? With tax, in early June 2022, on a Thursday night, over $130. So no, not a good value. We do not recommend you stay here. I hope they do the maintenance needed to bring this place up to snuff. On a GOOD note, we had a flat tire overnight and were waiting for a tow truck to get air. One of the motel or restaurant staff walked by, asked if we needed help and ended up bringing out a compressor to fill our tire. He refused money until we insisted. A good Samaritan!

    Adult bedbug
    Megan W.

We arrived late into the evening, dropped our bags off and ran to eat dinner. We hadn't returned to our room until closer to 11pm. As we settled in for the night; my husband noticed a bug on our bed. He brushed it into the toilet to throw it away. As I was nursing our 7 month old; I noticed another bug on my pillow. We looked it up and both bugs looked like adult bedbugs. We called the front desk and they said they would relocate us to their sister hotel the Cactus Cove Inn and Suites; that they would completely refund our stay. They provided us a receipt saying that the stay was refunded; however, the charge remains on our card. About two days after this motel stop I had itchy bite marks on my arm, as is congruent with bedbug bites. I've reached out to hotels.com and they contacted the motel. The motel manager is now refusing to refund our stay. This was an enormous inconvenience for us, as we had to relocate hotels that night at midnight with a seven month old baby. It is also very disappointing that Hotels.com is unable to do anything about this. One would think that a company would take care of their loyal customers...guess not! Do yourself a favor and avoid booking a night at this motel and booking through hotels.com.

Bed bugs at Big Texan motel
    Michelle C.

***Bed Bugs!!*** I stayed in room 109 on 11/25/22 with my husband and 3 kids. When we first arrived I noticed the room didn't seem super clean but I brushed it off. I checked for bugs like I always do and did not see anything. At about 2am I woke up to bed bugs everywhere! We left immediately, leaving clothes, shoes, and blankets behind to be trashed. As soon as the office opened, I called for a refund and the lady I spoke to did not seem surprised or worried about the bed bugs. I sifted through previous reviews after the fact and found reports of bed bugs starting in September. If they could get their infestation under control, this would be a nice place to stay.

You have to eat at the tourist trap, actually wasn't that bad

I stayed here on Dec 9th on the 2rd floor. I'm driving across country. Room was clean, comfy bed & with the extra amenities, refrigerator, microwave & coffee machine plus extra technology, for help charging your device, considering it's an old establishment. Reasonable price for a motel. I love the colorful entrances. Plus the morning receptionist was so nice, she would post my postcards for me. Of course It's right next door to must check out this BigTexan tourist restaurant.

Rooms don't come with a bathtub, "bathtub" is just a standing shower. Rooms are good, you can just go with a simple room and it'll be sufficient. Area is safe so don't worry about leaving things in your car. Restaurant across the street looked amazing and looks like a must try place! Front host was very friendly!

This was the fourth time we have stayed here over the years of back and forth moves across the country. We have loved stopping here because it is pet friendly and right next to the restaurant. In the past, rooms have been ok and customer service helpful. This place has gone down hill since the last time we stayed here two year ago, all the while it is more expensive compared to other hotels. Customer service is now via a remote location after 10pm and isn't there in the morning (10am). Our room had a huge wolf spider hanging out in the wall of the bathroom. Front desk lady told us there was nothing they could do. We went to have dinne, changed and tried using the pool. It was full of bugs and so cloudy that our little swimmer was out in 10 minutes. When we came back to go to bed we found dead bugs as well as used bandaids on the sheets. Front desk being abandoned since it was after 10, I called the remote agent to ask for fresh sheets. She said they would send someone with sheets as well as discount the room. No one ever came so we stripped the bed and slept on the mattress cover. Room was never discounted and the front desk wasn't present in the morning to raise the concern. After witnessing the cleaning crew, it was evident they don't change the blanket or comforter as all they were doing was changing the white sheets. Finally, the parking lot for trucks and trailers needs to be regrated as it is full of huge potholes. Needless to say, we will be finding a different place to stay in the future!

Aside from the hospitality, I am guessing the kickback hour is a big draw as well. They are also pet friendly. We were on a roadtrip to Colorado and decided to spend the night on our way back. There were 2 tour buses when we arrived and it looked like we just missed the crowd at check-in. The front desk folks were an epitome of Texas hospitality. Friendly, laid back and the ladies just made us feel so welcome. We were given 3 drink coupons each for kickback hour. Our 2 queen room on the 2nd floor didn't have much of a view but it was homey and quiet. Kickback hour was busy but staff were surprisingly very accommodating. Their margaritas will give you a buzz. They have hot food items, soup and a salad for the complimentary light dinner. For those that have not stayed at a Drury Inn before, the kickback hour is similar to Embassy Suites' evening reception, but WAY better. We slept surprisingly well, considering the hotel's proximity to the highway. We had no problems with the ac either. Breakfast was better than your typical hotel breakfast with a bunch of options. We did not get to use the other facilities because we had to head out early. This was our first time staying at a Drury property. I'm normally a Hilton and Marriott girl but I'll definitely choose Drury if there is one available in my future destinations. We also appreciate the military discount they offer. One of the biggest issues was the lack of consistent air conditioning throughout the building, which made common areas feel uncomfortable at times. I also found the terrace layout inconvenient since there are no stairs providing direct access, making it less practical than expected. Unfortunately, the room had a funky odor when I arrived that never completely went away during my stay. While the staff was courteous and the location was convenient, the overall experience didn't match the quality I expected. With some renovations and improved upkeep, this hotel could be a much better place to stay.

I am the single mom who brought her kids here to share the Mesquite room on October 9-10, 2022. This bed and breakfast is located in a somewhat remote area of Amarillo, Texas. The surrounding landscape is a bit reminiscent of Palo Duro Canyon - which is just a short drive away - but not in an extreme way that the Lone Star state park yields. The view from the hot tub at 7:30PM was amazing with a glorious display of sunset colors. Robes were provided behind the bathroom door. Near the pond on the old red, white, and blue amusement park ride chair, we found a walking stick. A friendly orange Tabby cat kept returning to our front door. My 8 and 9-year-old couldn't resist petting the stray feline. We weren't crazy about the continental breakfast which comprised of a cherry turnover, Yoplait yogurt, and Tropicana apple juice so we'll pass on that if we don't stay on a morning when they offer a hot meal. Just a couple of other cons: I leave to pick up pizza in town and someone takes my spot in front of our door. Lol. Also, my stupid Sprint/T-mobile coverage was terrible here. The other accomodations definitely overrode the somewhat lacking Monday morning breakfast: quiet neighborhood, calm weather, microwave, mini fridge, iron & board, lots of programs on the TV, free Wi-Fi, walk-in shower, and private gated area with code access.

We stayed in the Pinion. The positives. It's remote and really close to Palo Duro Canyon (18 minutes) That was nice. It's about 12 minutes from the Big Texan. It's in a pretty setting. The bed was comfy. We stay at B&B's because there is a level of expectation where hospitality takes over and you feel like you were being treated like royalty. This is not that place. It almost felt like our stay was a little bit of an inconvenience. The room is small and very dated, but covered in wood plank and not very clean. A lot of dust. This particular room did not have a shower and only a bath tub with the hot water trickles out. I'm not joking. It took about 30 minutes to fill the bathtub. Tip 1. Make sure to ask if the room you are booking has a shower if you're needing a shower for medical reasons or handicap accessibility. According to one of the reviews, and in their pictures, there appeared to be a nice shower in the mesquite, but we weren't given the chance to stay there. Once you get in the room, you're given two towels for the bath and two towels for the hot tub. I uncovered the hot tub to see that the water was very cloudy and it wasn't a result of the bubbles. So I put the cover right back on. They don't give you anything with respect to toiletries when it comes to soap or shampoo or lotions or bath bomb. So it really does feel like you're not being pampered. Bed And Breakfast should always feel like you're being pampered. And inside the room, you're not giving any type of bottled water, filtered water and so you rely on the bathroom sink in the bathroom tub. Which I thought was really bad. The outside of the room was covered in Pineneedles on the walkway, and so we tracked some into a room. When we were trying to get into the door, some even to get into the wheels of our suitcase. It was kind of annoying. The area is just really dated and not well kept. However, that does give it a very rustic feel and so if you're into that kind of thing that it may suit your fancy. It does have a really cute cat that keeps you company in the random deer that you will see from time to time. Overall, I'm sure it meets the needs of a specific clientele that would enjoy that atmosphere but when I go to a bed-and-breakfast, I consider myself to be high maintenance. So they certainly could meet the need a specific individuals however, it's not a place that I would really return to .

The bed is comfortable, the linens and towels of the quality expected in a nice hotel. Physically, the place is nice. What is lacking is a customer experience commensurate with their hype. They are posers. Gone are the days, when the clerk comes from behind the counter to hand you your room key and walk you to the elevator. That used to be a Marriott trademark, but no trace of it at the Barfield. I decided to eat at the bar. Same menu as the hotel's Toscana Italian Steakhouse. Even though there were three women behind the bar, and only six other patrons, it took a while to be recognized, since the staff were all busily chit-chatting with each other. Finally, one of the women brought me a glass of bar mix. I looked at it, trying to figure out what it was. It was the consistency of large-grain salt--I would need a spoon to eat it. I asked another of the staff on her way by what it was, and, after examining it, she said, "It looks like you got the bottom of the bag." What level of mindlessness does it take to pour a glass of bar-mix crumbs, hand it to a guest, and think that's world-class? Dinner was the next disappointment. I was interested in the "Creole Tortellini," but asked if they could prepare it with any type of red sauce, instead of the cream sauce. "No problem," I was told. As I was finishing my salad, the woman returned to say they couldn't accommodate the request because "everything was already mixed together." Prepared in-kitchen earlier in the day, or in a Sysco bag, I'll never know. Next try was Steak Frites, steak done medium. It came out medium-well with cold fries. The highlight was the glass of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I ordered. The "fond farewell" I received early next morning was from the "valet." When he brought the car around, he exited the car, closed the door, and handed me the key as he walked by me while I stood at the rear of my car with my bag. He rushed back inside, leaving me standing there with his tip in my hand. Based on my experience, the Barfield wants to be a high-end hotel, but not enough to actually work at it. Not worth the premium.
