Big Tiny would probably accept kids but you shouldn't bring them anyway. It's cute and small and very French with amazing fresh cuisine that they wouldn't appreciate anyway. first, the positive- the staff was very attentive and friendly. the owners took care of us personally and obviously cared about our experience. However. this is a French restaurant, owned and run by French people. how can they serve a Syrah/Grenache ICE COLD? I know a fair bit about wine, and am familiar with the red varietals that do well chilled, but this particular blend was awful and it was not chilled it was practically frozen. The most egregious problem though was the mussels. I ordered Moules Frites, a classic French dish served in bistros all over France, and all over Brooklyn as well. I have NEVER been charged separately for the fries?!? the mussels were expensive for the area (I am thinking of a certain Bar a few blocks north that charges 40 percent less and includes the fries), the portion was smaller than most, and then they charge TEN DOLLARS for a sleeve of fries. The mussels were small but very flavorful, and the fries were super crispy, although my husband found them overly greasy. The steak tartare was fine, but the classic egg yolk was replaced with two dollops of mayonnaise. Perhaps we ordered the wrong thing, but I just can't get over the ten dollar fries.... read more

We came for Valentine's Day dinner. It was such a treat. Great atmosphere and the food was so delicious. I highly recommend the boeuf bourguignon and the lemon taste. We also had the mushroom tarte which was excellent but served cold, and I would have liked it better room temperature or even hot. All in all a fantastic dining experience. I loved my first visit to Big Tiny! A much anticipated cool French spot with wine, beer, and sake that Smith Street has been sorely needing since Jakewalk closed a few months ago. The food itself was wonderful- we had the oxtail terrine, steak tartare, scallop carpaccio, and Cornish hen. The drinks were delicious and the atmosphere was just perfect, from the friendly kitchen staff and owner to the lighting, music, and open windows. The alcohol selection is small but perfectly paired - the rose was fantastic - I forgot to get the name the curry mussels were amazingly spiced that I wanted a whole loaf of bread to soak in the sauce. The Niçoise salad had huge chunks of tuna, hard boiled quail egg, pickled vegetables, etc. and a vinaigrette perfectly matched with the items in the salad. My husband got the raclette sandwich- also incredible! Wait staff was super nice and accommodating, and the owner was around the whole time - which was really nice! We've walked past this spot many times and finally stopped in on a rainy evening a few months ago. It has become one of our favorite Smith Street haunts. Finally went here after walking past it so many times....it's wonderful. Yes...it's a shoebox but the staff is so incredibly friendly and the food at brunch was excellent. Steak tartare was well portioned and seasoned, watermelon gazpacho was perfect special on a blazing hot day and the eggs benedict was excellent. Beer and wine list is very tiny, but that aside this really is a neighborhood gem. Best part is that the whole menu is available during brunch as well. Will definitely return. read more

For a hole in the wall sized place this is one of the better meals I've had in NYC. The owner is super friendly, joking with us right as we walk in. Wow!!! My husband and I just loved our first visit to Big Tiny. We're worried the next time we try to come it will be too busy. Big Tiny is an adorable, cozy French wine bar with amazing food! I can't believe this used to be the old video rental store. Its unrecognizable. We met here after work for dinner. We drank glasses of red wine so we could try different things and have some fun! He had a cab franc/malbec and I asked about something "earthy" and the owner thought for a moment and then suggested a Spanish wine not on the menu. It was very earthy and delicious and exactly what we asked for! For my next glass, I then asked for any other suggestions and ended up with a Spanish Grenache after getting to try 2 different choices. We loved this! When you sit down you get a delicious complimentary olive tapenade and we ordered 3 small bites: scallop carpaccio, filet mignon carpaccio and escargot and 1 large bite: cassoulet. Everything was absolutely delicious! The owner also gave us a small pour each of a sparkling German cider after our meal. This was the best meal and overall experience we've had anywhere in the neighborhood anytime recently! Prices were less than I would have expected. I can't imagine this place will remain the same. So good! Definitely worth checking it out if you haven't been. Got 4 dishes: the oxtail dish, the beet salad, the lobster roll, and the Cornish hen. It's impossible to describe the flavor that you taste because delicious is just not enough to comprehensively explain the delight your stomach and mouth feels from each bite. We went to Big Tiny last night and I probably shouldn't submit this review because it may make it harder for me to get a reservation in the future. We arrived at the restaurant a little before 6 PM and it was pretty empty, maybe 6 other guests. There were 4 of us and were seated in the new addition to the restaurant. Note, the restaurant is true to its name, it is tiny. We started with a bottle of pinot noir from Burgundy and appetizers, 2 Filet Mignon carpaccios, a steak tartare, and a 3 mushroom tartine. All nicely presented and delicious. For entrees we had grilled octopus (actually and appetizer), cassoulet, organic chicken breast, and mushroom risotto. Everyone declared their dish a winner. I had the chicken breast which was cooked perfectly and placed on a bed of potato puree, sauteed spinach and was topped with a creamy mushroom sauce, perfect! Entrees were accompanied by a cabernet franc. Two deserts included a chocolate marquise, and an apple tartatine. Again, excellent! Without a doubt, I believe this will be my neighborhood "go to" place. The menu also lends itself to ordering a few small plates which could make for a delicious and varied meal. A caution though, the place is tiny, make a reservation so you're not disappointed and enjoy. When we left at 7:30 it looked like all tables were occupied. The wine list focuses on natural wine so if you like them/are curious to try them, there's a good selection to sample here and are reasonable priced. The waiter will also offer recommendations and give you a tasting to find the perfect glass! We had a chilled syrah and two different natural sauvignon blanc -- both were so different than traditional wines and are worth trying. You also get a delicious tapenade and toasted bread with your drinks. The drinks list include beer and sake as well, if that's more your thing. Food is decent but will likely just come back to sample more from the wine list -- as they've just opened, it seems like they're still getting tons of new shipments so there's always something new to check out. Seating is tight, I'd recommended coming here for dates or a group of 4 at the maximum. read more

Service, food, and setting are all outstanding. Its a very small place, room for 7 two tops and 9 at the bar. Our server Daniel was very attentive to every table. The kitchen is staffed by two people, and the chef was literally smiling every time I looked at the back. The highlights of the meal were the scallops, the tuna tartare, and the branzino. Definitely not a place to go with a big group, but ideal for a walk-in date night or a solo drink.
