    Malatang broth with instant noodles
    Ceci L.

This Big Way location just opened at Gilmore Place. The interior is bright, spacious and welcoming. They have their usual selection of meats, veggies and carbs. All the ingredients looked fresh, but some of the hot pot meats were still frozen and stuck together. I ordered my usual malatang broth and it came with a good amount (Robson location typically gives too little broth). My husband's tom yum broth was delicious and there's the option to add coconut milk at no extra cost. We came for lunch, which comes with complimentary black tea, green tea or lemonade. Service was friendly, although we had to ask the cashier several times to repeat herself. She spoke quietly with a thick accent and it was difficult to understand her. The staff on the floor were so attentive, they immediately took our empty pots and brought us taro ice cream. I live in the area and will definitely be back.

Went here pretty late at night as a group of two. I think it was more crowded than during dinner. After grabbing everything I wanted, I paid and got seated. My order took a while this time. The food was good as usual. It also took a while to get my ice cream. I think the staff forgot, but it was all good because it tasted good.

I also liked their tomato soup base too. The servers explain how the combos work and they're constantly topping off our broths. Their combos include a soup base, main course, side, assorted veggies, Gokudo sauce, beverage and dessert. Soup: Their sukiyaki soup base is light with umami flavour and comes with a raw egg. This is a popular choice but my fave is their mushroom truffle broth. Main: my husband and I shared their AAA prime rib & lamb shoulder, both were delicious. Side: choose between rice or noodles, we upgraded to instant noodles. We monitored the waitlist and joined it so that we would be seated around 9PM (that's when HH started). The service was good and our server was very attentive. The taste is really just the broth (I always get the Chinese herbal soup) and it was good and flavourful in the beginning, but of course after cooking some proteins and veggies in it, it does change the flavour. The quality of the meat and veggies were good, and the pricing is definitely worth it during HH because it was 25% off the bill!

This is my first time trying Haidilao, I was so impressed with the service. Food was fresh, we opted for unlimited meat, we had beef & lamb slices. There is an extra charge of the sauce bar, about $3 plus dollars. That includes dessert & their yummy congee as part of the sauce bar. There's even a show presentation on a popular Chinese mythology figure, The Monkey God. A thoroughly enjoyable meal. Service is prompt & good, our server Elvis was attentive & most helpful. Trying to reorder meat on their iPad was a bit challenging, there's too many options. We had Elvis helping us with the reordering. You are offered ice cream at the end of your meal too. Pro tip: There is free underground parking at the restaurant. After 6pm, you can park at CIBC parking stalls underground. The Deluxe AYCE is only $3 more per person so with the 20% late night deal my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. What we found is much higher beef quality and lamb that rivals what higher tier hot pot spots like DolarShop provide. My boyfriend loves the snack bar and we discovered there are two separate snack bars in the restaurant that has different food - one has desserts, spring rolls, chicken wings, and deep fried buns. The other has cold appetizers, noodles, curry fish balls, and lamb shanks. The original house soup base is really tasty and the service here is quick and pretty friendly. The only downside is that the restaurant is not well vented so be prepared to smell like hot pot from head to toe. Regular deluxe AYCE is $34.99 per adult for dinner and end of the meal includes complimentary ice cream. They also have some unlimited drink refills that are pretty reasonable prices for around $3.99/person. Solid hot pot place and the great thing about this restaurant is they don't rush you out when your time limit is up.

Spicy was traditional Chinese spicy (so pretty spicy) but both are flavorful. The lamb and beef meats were good. The inside was nice and clean. They had a small buffet style section where you could grab toppings and certain side items. I guess they only put certain items out at a time and don't refill it when they run out. We ordered the Chinese Donut, as we got the last 2 in the buffet style area, but the guy came back and said they are all out. So it seems like they don't make more after a certain point. Parking seems a bit bad. We are not familiar with the area and planned to go to the nearby mall afterwards, so we ended up paying for parking at the mall across the street. From the looks of it, they only really have street parking available. We paid in advanced for the happy hour price before happy hour ended. That all being said, the service was subpar. It was okay at first, but then we ordered more meat and fast forward 20 minutes, it still had not come out. It the took a minute to find a flag down a worker, but we asked once again. It felt like only had 1 (maybe 2) actual server on the floor. We waited like 5 more minutes before ultimately just leaving. I'm not sure what happened since they were pretty empty (customer wise), but it heavily ruined the experience. If you go, I hope your experience is better!:)

One was the fatty beef with pork bone brother and the other one was the Chicken thigh with pork bone broth. The bone broth was average. We went there for the all you can eat hotpot, which was $43.99 per person for dinner. They were pretty busy on a Friday night, although we were able to get a table because some reservation didn't show up. Medium sized interior with mostly booth seating, and the entrance is narrower and expands to the back. It's a personal hotpot so each person gets their own stove and order their own soup base. Ordering is done via a tablet. They also have cooked dishes like skewers, fried mantou and other things on the menu in addition to the hotpot ingredients. Some of the items cost extra and are labeled with the cost. In the center, they have the sauce bar, desserts bar of mostly Chinese jellos and also an ingredients bar with things like spam and quail eggs. I got the satay broth and it was decent. Ingredients are served reasonably quickly. The quality of the meat is decent. The milk-marinated beef is actually soft, and the usual sliced ribeye, lamb shoulder and pork belly are fine. The cooked dishes are decent as well, as we tried their pork trotters, fried mussels, and lamb skewers. The selection for hotpot ingredient is as you'd expect for an AYCE place, but the cooked food selection is a bonus. Definitely stuffed myself and was a satisfying meal on a cold winter day. Not the cheapest meal, but not a solid value.
