After I got the food promo for this place and we asked the server to explain the 'deal', it wasn't such a great deal after all. You essentially had to be a paid member to get this offer. There were too many rules. For a certain price, you only got specific food items and for other food items it entailed having your food weighed.

I had such good first time experience helped by this really cute Yin server. She serves you with such smiley face, comfort and welcoming. She will accommodate and explain any concern, best and not least. Her recommendations from menu is on point. My friends came visit from out of town. This is our first time and it was the best night. They deserved the extra~extra tip for being just awesome. FYI- thanks for understanding of our minor misbehave!!! top pick from Wagyu selection - the short rib

Looks like competition is heating up around town, with this chain finally joining the dark side of AYCE goodness. About time. Parking is available in the parkade beneath the building, as well as on the side streets. The place is average sized, but it sure was packed. The waiting area here is way too small. People were crowding outside. Inside looks pretty dated (several restaurants have died in this space) and the renovations look pretty minimal. Staff are friendly but understaffed. Ordering was a bit annoying as they do it by tablet instead of order sheet, so my friends and I couldn't just fill out a form. We often had to wait a few minutes to find someone to top up water or soup or take our orders. The sauce station is pretty good, with the usual expected fixings. There is also a hot food station with chicken karaage which is nice. The food selection is very decent. Their claim to fame is their meat ring which surrounds the pot. See photos. This more for show, and is obviously a relic from their non AYCE days. Selection is a bit lighter than the competition, but there were no glaring omissions. They do have skewers for an additional cost. The staff didn't skimp out on any parts of our orders, which is also worth a special mention. Lastly, be sure to save some room for the ice cream. If I were to rank this place, I would put it slightly below Marble House (Crystal Mall) in terms of quality, but the pricing here is quite a bit better. I would gladly come back for more self destruction. Recommended.

I love hotpot and this is my first time going with my group of friends. We definitely like this spot more than happy lamb. Price is about $50 per person with tips. Service is kinda slow at busy time but friendly staff. The soup is kinda salty. Ingredients are fresh. Love their chicken wings. Their passion fruit tea is delicious. We would come back.

Not a huge fan of their soup base. We got their house spicy and tomato broth. They add lemons to their tomato broth which made it way too sour. Stay away from their tomato broth.

My friend and I tried this place for lunch after the restaurant changed over to AYCE! The service was very attentive and the server explained things well. The ring of lamb and beef that surrounded the soup was pretty cool and the server made recommendations on what to cook first. We were excited they had deep fried bun with condensed milk included but unfortunately this was stale. Overall, it was what we expected. We try a lot of different hot pot places and nothing really stood out for us with this establishment. In my opinion, happy lamb is very similar but cheaper for lunch, and ChoCho late night special is better.

Chinese hot pot chain with signature cow-shaped butter/oil for their soup base. They have outdoor seating for summer, and a larger indoor dining room all year round. Servers are helpful but very busy. They don't check on the table, so you need to flag down help. They speak Mandarin here and a little English depending on the person. Luckily we had a Mandarin speaker in our party of 5, so we got on fine. The food was good. Sauce station was full. Tried some things I've never had before. This is a la carte dining - not AYCE. So it was a bit pricey though at $60 pp. You could join their annual membership for $28 pp, and get discounts on some menu items.

A chain restaurant from China, sichuan style hotpot, if you like spicy food, here is the place to go! Better join their member so you got better price on everything, there is a annual fee for membership, but defiantly worth it. Parking available at both rear and basement, very convenient! Must try their meat combo, come with a nice ring stand, save a lot of space on the table.

Liuyishou Hotpot is one of the many Szechuan hotpot restaurants that have opened up in Vancouver over the last few years. Specializing in Chongqing-style hotpots, this is definitely more suited to diners who have a thing for spicy food. Recently, they opened a location in Burnaby, next to the 24-hour Pho Boi restaurant. This chain, which was founded in 2000, already has over 1000 outlets worldwide so they must be doing something right... I wonder if they'll last longer than the last hotpot restaurant in this location? The thing that first caught my attention to this chain was the pictures of a Barbie doll draped in layers of thinly sliced beef (at least from their Robson St. location). Sure, it's a bit of a gimmick... and exactly how clean is that Barbie doll by now? The other thing that I noticed was the pictures of their impressive sauce bar. As with most newly opened hotpot restaurants, the original nice and shiny sauce bar eventually devolves into something which is more functional than pretty. That's not to say that the number of sauces and condiments here is not impressive... it's just been reorganized to be more efficient. Instead of the roughly 27 round containers of sauces and condiments (in addition to fresh fruit), the containers have been switched to mostly rectangular-shaped to fit the counter space. When I arrived here for lunch on a weekday, the place was dead... and I soon found out why. Their menu isn't the most friendly for individual diners or people that are looking for a quick lunch. Unlike nearby Boiling Point which has individual hotpots, Liuyishou hotpots are meant to be shared with a large group of people. The serving sizes here means that prices quickly add up (especially if you want to add a lot of items to your hotpot). I decided to try their Original Spicy Broth ($9.95). You can also pick two different broths and just pay the higher price if you want a bit of variety. I found the medium spicy broth was plenty hot for me. Chongqing hotpots are known for their spicy and numbing qualities and this was definitely numbing. Realizing that the family-size portions here could break my bank, I stuck with just a couple of items... the Spinach ($4.95), Frozen Tofu ($4.95), and the Beef and Lamb Combo ($13.95). Their unlimited sauce bar, by the way, is $2.50 per person. After the first few bites, I quickly realized that I wouldn't be able to finish all of this food during my lunch break so I just wound up cooking everything and then packing it to go. All of the items were good and I like the unlimited sauce bar but if you're not used to szechuan hotpots, you might want to stick to some of the milder broths they have available. Also, make sure to come in a group to cut down on the per-person cost because the bill adds up quickly.

The weirdly shaped tripe (unravels once you cook it) along with: frozen tofu, marinated beef (super tender), bean curd, and THE FRIED BUNS

How could you not happily dine in the presence of a happy cow? On our quest to test out all the different a la carte hotpot joints that have risen in popularity within this year, we decided to pay liuyishou a visit. It would be in your best interest to call in to book a reservation for larger groups as they fill up fast. Sauce bar is around $3 with a great selection and the menu is quite extensive and surprisingly more affordable than most. I recommend adding the sauce bar surcharge in order to also enjoy some cold items (i.e. marinated sliced potatoes, kimchi, peanuts, fruit, etc). My favourite sauce combination = soy sauce + garlic + sesame oil + satay sauce + green onion + cilantro In terms of the soup base, I would recommend the house special beef bone soup and the liu's spicy soup with beef oil (Disclaimer: I eat a lot of spicy food - it is my life. However, if you don't want to choke yourself out and still enjoy your meal I would recommend just level 1 spicy.) What to order: Get the meat ring. Yes, you heard me - the good folks at liuyishou artfully decorate a wooden ring with meat (aka every girls' dream). It comes with a mix of lamb and beef for around $19. I would also recommend the seafood platter. We ordered a small size for $15 for some variety in between meat. Handmade balls were also a great pick - 8 assorted with shrimp, beef, cuttlefish, and fish. The rolled tripe first came out completely strange to look at - completely frozen in a circular form. Once we threw them in the pot, they began to unravel to its normal form (we were at first taken aback by its weird state but were pleasantly relieved post-cooking). Just for fun - we ordered a small vegetable platter, bean curd, quail eggs, and frozen tofu in order to allow us to feel a little bit healthy. Just a little. I'm not a fan of lettuce in hot pot... it was included but we simply left it alone. GET THE FRIED BUNS WITH CONDENSED MILK!!! We were stuffed with a group of 6 - and total worked out to be around $40 per person with tip! I would definitely make my return in the next week or so.

Pro tip: There is free underground parking at the restaurant. After 6pm, you can park at CIBC parking stalls underground. The Deluxe AYCE is only $3 more per person so with the 20% late night deal my boyfriend and I decided to try it out. What we found is much higher beef quality and lamb that rivals what higher tier hot pot spots like DolarShop provide. My boyfriend loves the snack bar and we discovered there are two separate snack bars in the restaurant that has different food - one has desserts, spring rolls, chicken wings, and deep fried buns. The other has cold appetizers, noodles, curry fish balls, and lamb shanks. The original house soup base is really tasty and the service here is quick and pretty friendly. The only downside is that the restaurant is not well vented so be prepared to smell like hot pot from head to toe. Regular deluxe AYCE is $34.99 per adult for dinner and end of the meal includes complimentary ice cream. They also have some unlimited drink refills that are pretty reasonable prices for around $3.99/person. Spicy was traditional Chinese spicy (so pretty spicy) but both are flavorful. The lamb and beef meats were good. The inside was nice and clean. They had a small buffet style section where you could grab toppings and certain side items. I guess they only put certain items out at a time and don't refill it when they run out. We ordered the Chinese Donut, as we got the last 2 in the buffet style area, but the guy came back and said they are all out. So it seems like they don't make more after a certain point. Parking seems a bit bad. We are not familiar with the area and planned to go to the nearby mall afterwards, so we ended up paying for parking at the mall across the street. From the looks of it, they only really have street parking available. We paid in advanced for the happy hour price before happy hour ended. That all being said, the service was subpar. It was okay at first, but then we ordered more meat and fast forward 20 minutes, it still had not come out. It the took a minute to find a flag down a worker, but we asked once again. It felt like only had 1 (maybe 2) actual server on the floor. We waited like 5 more minutes before ultimately just leaving. I'm not sure what happened since they were pretty empty (customer wise), but it heavily ruined the experience. If you go, I hope your experience is better!:)

Feels like communist era China, with the propaganda style artwork and decor. It really feels like one is eating at some streetside outdoor restaurant in a Chinese village. Special mention. Even the dumpy wooden tables feel authentic. With that said, this is actually one of the cons of the place. There is simply nowhere enough room to put the uncooked food, even with a side table. And the place sure is authentically cramped. Knock 1 star off. The tables aren't actually piped into a gas system. Instead, the dips in the table hold the portable type hot pot burners that use gas canisters. They do run out occasionally, so be sure to check the flame every once in a while. Staff are friendly and professional. No complaints. My friends and I did the dinner AYCE. Drinks are not included. However, they did include a (1) teapot of cold peach(?) pop, which really hit the spot. No refills for this one though. Besides the typical beef and lamb slices (good quality for both), most of the rest of the food is self serve in their refrigerated sections. Special mention. My friends and I loaded up piles of animal bits. There are skewers, seafood, marinated meats, and other goodies. I felt like a kid in a candy store. Some may not like the whole self serve thing, but personally I found this to be way more efficient than other places where one has to order then wait for the staff to bring the food. As of the time of writing, there is also a late nite AYCE special starting at 2100. Only reason I am not giving this place 5 stars is because of the seriously cramped seating, as well as the tables that are too small (as mentioned above). With this in mind though, I would gladly eat here again. Recommended.
