After 9 months of quarantine my parents and i traveled out to palm desert for a family get away. My fathers bike was working ... but he wasn't feeling comfortable on his bike ... My girlfriend accidentally left one of her bike wheels leaned against the car and we ran over it while leaving our hotel which resulted in the front roader breaking. We ended up taking it to Big Wheel Tours which was the closest bike repair shop to our current location. We were warmly welcomed by the two guys who were working there (we unfortunately didn't catch their names). They diagnosed the damage and said that the roader would need to be replaced and the part would probably need a week to get delivered. We were staying in Palm Springs for only 4 days so wouldn't have time to wait for it. So they suggested to temporarily remove the roader and offered us a ton of advice for when we got back home. They said she could ride the bike since the wheel itself wasn't bent, but she should avoid downhills since her bike was left with one single break. Super nice guys who then gave us a bunch of tips and advice for nice spots to visit in the area. Highly recommend going there if you want your bike repaired. They also do bike tours and rent out bikes for tourists and have a really neat selection of products. Will definitely go back when we visit Palm Springs again and book a tour with them. read more

We scheduled a Jeep Tour of Joshua Tree National Park. The guide picked us up on time and where we were instructed. Drove in the back of the Open Air Jeep to the base of the mountains (about 20 min away) and away we went. The tour isn't individual based, as we had one other guest with us, but it was very personalized. The guide was very familiar with plant life, wild life, and geological info. The tour was about 5 hours from pick up to drop off. The ride in the mountain and out can get a little bouncy and like their website says, anyone with a bad back should stay away. Once you are inside, you can pick up the speed a bit and really get a full tour of the park. Guaranteed that the "Other" company with the "overly large" vehicles can't get in as much as you do with this company. Really would like to come back when the desert is in bloom. read more

This was the easiest 20 miles we ever biked and in 90 degree weather to boot. Ron picked us right next to our hotel and off we went. We had no cares during the tour and Ron kept us all safe driving in the van behind us for the entire 20 miles. The ride is breathtaking as you appoach the fault zone and Ron was very articulate and informative. Toward the end of the ride we are at the Salton Sea - awesome sight. My husband desperately needed a bike for his half iron man. We didn't want to deal with shipping a bike all the way from the midwest so we went looking for a great place to rent from in Palm Desert. Big Wheel Tours definitely fit the bill! They were easy to coordinate with. Reserving the bike was handled over the phone in the most ridiculously easy way possible. When we arrived to the area to pick up the bike, they picked up the phone quickly and were very attentive when we arrived. As an added bonus, they gave my husband a military discount. He was able to rent a high-end carbon fiber bike for $50 (24 hours). It was such a great bike and my husband really enjoyed using it. The regular rate isn't bad either, but I can't remember off the to top of my head what the non-military rate is. The drop-off for the bike was RIDICULOUSLY easy. He met my husband at the triathalon and all we had to do was hand-off the bike to him (which was included in the price). The man who owns the business was super friendly and helpful. I can't say enough great things about him. I'm so glad we rented from here. It was truly the highlight of my husband's triathalon. read more

We decided in the morning we'd like to rent road bikes for the day. Went to Big Wheel in Palm Desert without a previous reservation. They were exceptionally nice, organized and accommodating. We got our two bikes and were out riding in a matter of less than 15 minutes. We rented for the entire day but were satisfied with our ride within the half day rental period. I cannot sing Big Wheel Bike Tours praises enough. On a recent trip to Indio for Coachella music festival, we stayed at a condo about 3 miles from the festival gates. Walking is fine, but we decided riding bikes would be fun. I found Big Wheel Bike Tours on yelp with only one or two reviews. I gave them a call in January and was told that not only did they have 6 bikes available for us to rent for 4 days (at $65 each plus tax) but that they would also deliver the bikes to our doorstep for $25. All in all we paid $75 a person for the long weekend to have quick and easy (quick and easy being the key words) access to the festival. It beat walking, beat the $50 shuttle pass and long lines, and sure beat driving and parking in the crowded lots. Evan, the founder of Big Wheels is super friendly, patient and helpful. Terry & Gerry our delivery guys were also incredibly friendly and equally as helpful. The bikes were great for riding back and forth to the festival on (with plenty of bike racks available just outside the first check-point.) We booked the Earthquake Canyon Bicycle Tour during our visit to Palm Springs in October. I was a bit worried about how strenuous the tour would be because it's a 19-mile ride and I hadn't been on a bike in years. However, I read the reviews and the tour seemed very doable. I'm so glad we did this. It turned out just to be the two of us, so the tour was very personalized. Our tour guide was extremely friendly and helpful. The tour itself was unbelievable. The weather was hot, but we barely noticed. The scenery was phenomenal and the ride was fairly easy (reviews said it was all downhill, but that wasn't the case. There was a fair amount of pedaling, but none of it was uphill - just flat and downhill). We weren't rushed at all and pedaled at our own pace. The cherry on top was the delicious date shake at the end of the tour. If you're on the fence about booking this tour, or are worried that you can't do it, go ahead and book it. Husband and I booked a mountain bike tour at 7 am, Evan, the owner picked us up from our hotel then headed to our destiny. He was so fun and pleasant to converse with, his love for the area and bikes were contagious; we can't ask for a better person to tour with in such an early morning so it's great we had Evan. The mountain bike experience was so much fun and not at all intimidating for a newbie like myself. Palm Springs Wildlands Preserve Nature Tour with Big Wheel Tours -- I booked this via Viator, which I recommend. The cost was $119 for a 4 hour guided tour of nature preserves within Coachella Valley. Mike was the tour guide. He was excellent, well informed, and a good communicator. The only problem I had was that it is difficult for me to love nature in the desert so that was a personal drawback that may not be relevant to all others. Plus I was feeling physically weak that day and that made it more difficult for me. If you are fascinated by the desert and eager to learn more than this is a good tour. But on really hot days, this may not be advisable. It is more suited for November through April, I think. read more

To coin a phrase, Just Do It! Breathtaking ride through a amazingly diverse box canyon that opens onto miles of ag land and the Salton Sea. Easy ride! Neither my wife or I have been on a bike in over fifteen years (Maybe twenty!) and we made it with absolutely no problems other then a few sore muscles. Almost downhill all the way. Our guide was Raul who grew up in the area and considers it his playground. He was fabulous as were the chocolate chip cookies. 3 of us took a mountain bike tour with Big Wheel. We were picked up on time by a guide that was friendly and knew the area well. The bikes were clean and worked well. We rode down to box canyon which is a 20 mile mostly down hill ride. The guide provided a snack and as much bottled water as we needed. As a personal touch, he brought home made chocolate chip cookies. We ended the ride with a delicious date shake paid by the guide. The ride was about 2 hours with about an hour of driving. Yesterday we took the Joshua Tree National Park tour with Big Wheel Tours. Our driver/guide was George Raymond. He picked us up at our resort; we were very pleased to be the only people on this tour. Originally I had thought I'd drive us to the park, but then decided that it would be better to go on the Big Wheel Tour after hearing their presentation at our resort's activities breakfast. (Just an aside: If you have a National Park pass, please bring it along on your tour as it will save Big Wheel Tours a few bucks.) On this tour, we heard about the history of the area and saw many varieties of plants and learned how they were used by the natives in the past. We learned about the gold mines, saw rock art and heard quite a few legends and stories about this area. George also took a number of pictures which, at no cost, I received the next day in a zip file on Dropbox. Our guide was fun and informative. We saw and learned about the park in a way that would have been impossible on our own. Therefore we highly recommend Big Wheel Tours. read more
