Our group had a blast on our tour of Joshua Tree thanks to our tour guide Ron! He took us on a great hike into the boulders, to Barker dam and then to see pictographs that were at least a thousand years old. I live in LA and have been to JT a couple times but I had never experienced it like this. While in town for business I like to hook up with local bike clubs for some weekday riding. This is the second time I've rented from them. They deliver the bike to my hotel room. With a helmet and a spare tire/repair kit saddle bag. They even include the pedals that you need based on your shoes. Then they pick it up from your hotel when you are finished. All you need is your kit and your shoes and you've got a full on carbon road bike ready to ride. I couldnt be happier with the service and the experience. We were very lucky to gat Ali as our tour guide, she is a brilliant Geologist so not only was the ride great, but she was able to tell us all about the rock formations and the San Andres Fault, that the ride crosses. It was a very nice flat to downhill ride, with plenty to see and really made our trip! Recommend! read more

Big Wheel Bikes is great! I rented a beach cruiser of theirs from a hotel I am staying at in Palm Desert. I was overly ambitious about the bike's range and was fairly far away from the hotel when the bike got a flat tire! I called the number on the bike and Evan, the owner, answered right away. Spencer came to pick me up and drove me back to the hotel. We had a great chat about bikes and the area and he even gave me a few tips of places to visit (date shakes, here I come)! i rented a hard tail last year end of march. shop was extremely helpful and recommended the palm canyon ride. amazing ride cause its all downhill 4 hour ride. I should have gotten the full suspension cause my butt was getting pretty sore the last hour. just booked again this may 2018 and doing the same ride but we will leave at dawn to beat the heat. We heard about the ride from a presentation at the Marriott Resort and it sounded like fun. They picked the 4 of us up on Tues the 13th of Feb at the appointed time and place and drove us to the start of the ride. The bikes where fairly new and helmets where good. They started us w/ a bottle of water and all was as described. The ride was downhill and the views where very incredible. We were surprised as to how much traffic was on this road. We got passed quite often and swore at more than once by upset drivers because we had held them up on this narrow road with few places to pass us. Our van driver was annoying to say the least. For some reason he thought that it was necessary to provide commentary at all times. We appreciated some of insight on the area but wanted to call BS more than once. He never shut his mouth and we didn't want to hear or care about his political views. We would probably go again but not w the driver we had. read more

Great experience renting a full carbon road bike for a quick morning ride in the summer in the Coachella valley. We did a guided road bike tour in the La Quinta area for four of us. BWT provided all the bikes, pedals, helmets, water/bottles, snacks - and picked us up at our house in Palm Desert in their van. We did a 50-mile ride out toward Thermal. Lynn, our guide, was great - set the pace we requested, assisted some of our more novice riders with advice, made sure nobody fell back, good conversation and some guided tour points, and certainly knew her way around the area (something we did not, being from Seattle). The bikes were of excellent quality (we did pop a spoke on one wheel, but Lynn knew how to handle it). Price was great for the half day guided ride too. This was our second time using BWT - we did a mountain bike ride as well several years ago - which was also great (the guide got a lot of practice changing tires for our group then). I'd certainly recommend Evan at Big Wheel Tours again. read more

Wonderful TourI 'm 60 years old, not in great shape, but I mustered this 20 mile ride without any real trouble. My guide was a walking encyclopedia of the area in geology,flora and fauna, industry, history -- she really was a fountain of information and fun. We signed up on-line after seeing their ad in some literature in our condo. Everything they advertised was not what we got. We were not picked up at a close location (Marriott Villas), nor did we get the tour we bought. They could not pick us up because they lost their license to do so, as it was explained to us. We ended up driving 15 miles to park in a unused parking lot to get on the tour. We waited and finally the guy showed up. It took him 45 minutes to fit the 5 of us their our bikes. This is after they told us we would be taking another tour other than than the one we paid for. We road through a residential area (level) and then went into a private Indian preserve. It was a hard haul uphill for part of it, and 2 of the riders and the tour leader had to walk up their bikes the last 3/4 mile. My husband, and myself, and another nice lady from Canada were able to do the hill, but it was not a good hill for a beginner as it was explained to us by the guide before we took off. We were promised snacks and water. The bottled water was warm and the snack was chocolate chip cookies out of a Tupperware container. It was not a 20 mile ride as advertised (The Earthquake Canyon Express). We were lucky if we rode 12 miles round trip, and he took us on a very, very slow hike that was OK, but not exceptional. Nice guy, but it was a whole different tour than was advertised. On the way back downhill, very steep, no riding needed, just braking, the two slower older people where not behind us. I keep looking back, and got the attention of the guide, who was riding far ahead and not checking on us or them, and told him he better see what is going on. The 3 of us waited while he went back and found them, (15 minutes). $211.98 worth of biking? NO WAY. I wanted to get my money back, but we just got away as fast as we could and are trying to forget the bad experience and lost money! Would have been happy if they had only charged $50/head with the changes, but they did not apologize or offer to do so. read more

Bike tour of Earthquake Canyon was very enjoyable; it can be managed by almost anyone who is even moderately fit. Bikes are of good quality and the guide (at least ours) was professional and very informative about the geology and history of the area. The ride starts on a high plateau that descends modestly for a few miles, then transitions to a canyon with a somewhat steeper descent (still manageable). Last 3 miles are flat and a bit tedious, we had a headwind and we did not enjoy this last leg of the trip. My advice to the operators would be to stop the tour 3 miles early if the winds are up. I recommend the trip and the operator. read more

These guys were great! We came to Palm Springs for the HITS triathlon and instead of shipping our bikes like usual we just gave Evan the owner a call. He had two excellent condition race bikes delivered to our hotel the day before. The bikes were top notch and came with spare tubes, cartridges, a bike tool etc - really handy. The delivery guy was also very patient and waited when we arrived a little late. Thoroughly recommend their bike hire and only wish we had longer in order to experience one of the tours. read more
