Came in last week with high hopes after hearing great things. Got the platter with pulled pork, seasoned fries, and slaw. If you're doing BBQ, the basics should be solid. Pulled pork: 3.5/5 - decent but not amazing. Seasoned fries: 2/5 - underwhelming. Slaw: 0/5 - tasted old, couldn't eat it. My take: I love BBQ and wanted to love this place. The pork was fine, but slaw tasting old is a real issue. Sides need to be fresh, and that one detail makes me question the kitchen's consistency. Maybe it was an off night. I'll probably give it one more shot during lunch when turnover is higher. If it's still off, there are too many good BBQ spots around St. Charles to settle. read more

Once again amazing BBQ. They recently received the award for best BBQ in St Charles and it's totally deserved. Since I'm from Texas my go to is brisket. Moist and delicious. This is a gem just a few minutes off 70 East. The owner definitely knows how to Barbeque on the stock burner he built himself. We had the sampler platter -- chicken, brisket and pork -- with green beans just like my Granny used to make. The cherry on top were the "Pig Balls" which are elevated hush puppies with onions, cheese and a crispy exterior. Awesome!! The small dining room is decorated so well with funny pig memorabilia. I enjoyed a brisket sandwich with a line of tasty sauces to sample (I'm a dipper), along with a side of (Woody-recommended) green beans. This is our favorite bbq restaurant whenever we're in the St. Louis area. We've taken my mother here twice and she just loves their ribs! We order a rack and several sides and share it between my husband, mother and myself. Plenty of food for all of us. The restaurant is small and could be cramped when busy. They seem to have a fair amount of take outs instead. Lucky for us, the last two times, we've managed to come after the lunch rush. You order at the counter so faster service. Small place at the end of a strip mall. Lots of signs all over the walls, lots of decorations, and handmade signs. Order at the counter with menu signs posted. The guy at the counter was probably the owner, was friendly enough and answered my questions. After we ordered and sat at the 'music' table, we noticed another whole menu board on the wall to the right of the counter. Not sure how we missed it but also wasn't pointed out. I think we would have made different order choices had we known. I ordered the small pulled chicken sandwich with sauce on the side. Glad I asked, I like to dip and not have it already on the sandwich. I also got the hushpuppies and really enjoyed them. The chicken sandwich was good, the bun was soft and really made the sandwich. Went to Big Woody's BBQ on my recent trip to St. Louis because i needed to try some St. Louis ribs. Big Woody's was near my hotel, highly rated, and closed at 7pm. My rules for BBQ restaurants are as follows: 1. If you can't smell smoke, it's probably not good. 2. If they are open late they probably are not good. It's in a strip mall, and you can see the smokers are at the edge of the parking lot, just outside of the restaurant. You can also smell the smoke. The restaurant's interior can be described as kitschy American road trip, with license plates and road signs adorning the wood walls. I ordered a full rack of ribs which came with two sides. I got the bacon mac and cheese and hush puppies. Everything came on disposable plates, another good sign. The bacon mac was gooey and cheesy, with lots of bacon flavor. I especially liked the hush puppies which were crispy, lightly sweet, and not too greasy. The ribs were excellent. They were tender, peeled off the bone easily, smoky, and not covered in sauce. The rub had excellent flavor on it's own. I will definitely return if I find myself in the St. Louis area again. read more

I just ordered one of the pork steaks. While it was a BIG steak, it was so tasteless that I wonder how it was cooked. I honestly have never had a pork steak with so little flavor. The sauce must be part of the reason. The BBQ beans were just ok, nothing exciting. The only thing that kept my review from being one star was the hog balls. They were crispy and very flavorful. I did the brisket sandwich. The brisket was fantastic. It had a nice smoke ring and was very moist. They buttered and toasted the bread the sandwich came in. Very nice touch. I had the baked beans. This was my 1st time visiting this establishment & being a Head Chef for many yrs. & working at numerous different establishments & Restaurant Chains, I guess I would call myself a "Foodie". I'm always on a quest to find something different, Unique, & something I've never had. Something about the name intrigued me & reading the reviews & seeing the ratings, I was convinced that I had to make it my mission to give them a try. Well, on 8/16/25 I called the establishment after browsing their menu wanting to place a carryout order & was told that they didn't open until 11am & that their Pork Steaks would not be ready until 2:30pm which I had decided that I was going to try. So, I decided that I would place the order & pick it up at 2:30pm. I ordered for myself & my Mother & we ordered: 1/2 Slab Ribs w/ Green Beans, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, & Hushpuppies for my Mother & for myself- The 1.5 or 2lb Pork Steak w/ Baked Beans & Potato Salad 1st off, Big Woody's did not disappoint at all!!! It was well worth the 30-min trip to pickup. They have perfected the "Smoking Technique" of their meats. The Ribs delicately fell right off of the bone & when trying to pick the meat up with a fork, it literally shredded. The same was the case with the humongous Pork Steak & it was soooo tender, that I completely took the bone out of the middle of it cleanly! The meat almost melts in ur mouth. I'm not really a huge fan of Hushpuppies, because they are usually very heavy, doughy, or flavorless. Once again Big Woody's did not disappoint. Their Hushpuppies were light, nicely crisped & crunchy outer-shell with a nice sweetness to them with a blast of Corn Nuggets(If & when I have a taste for Hushpuppies, I know where to go now). The Potato Salad was a nice portion. Very creamy & flavorful. The Bake Beans were flavorful, nicely portioned, & actually had a unique flavor to them like a sweet & smoky flavor. I'm curious if they use Apple Cider Vinegar?? Big Woody's is now my favorite BBQ establishment & I will definitely be visiting them many more times!!! If ur searching for a true, authentic Bbq establishment, Big Woody's is ur spot. Do Not pass by them!! The prices are reasonable & I was surprised at how small the location was, for their size they pack a hugeee punch like a stick of TNT. If I had a complaint or issue it would be to have a lil' more Bbq Sauce on the meat or on the side. I understand they want U to taste the flavor of the meat & the smoke, but for those who like Bbq Sauce like me & like sopping their bread in it, it would be nice. Customer Service was very pleasant. We like staying away from national chains and strip malls. When we rolled up to Big Woody's I was worried. BBQ in a strip mall? OMG. It was great. We were there at 5 pm. There were so many people standing around for take out. The place is popular. They were out of many of the sides. Disappointing, but a sign of customer love. I had a half rack of ribs with Josh puppies and smoked baked beans. My partner had the brisket with hush puppies and deep fried corn. The ribs were great with a nice balance of smoke heat and sweet but not too sweet. They offer sauce (self serve into a cup). My brother said the brisket was fantastic. Inside a very small and quant very intimate ambience. The staff is always incredibly friendly, and they always make your order right when you order it so it's always fresh! Honestly, I don't have one recommendation everything is delicious and I think you should just try a little bit of everything so without I will say I always recommend the platters. The sandwich was absolutely delicious and the hogballs were a treat, they consist of giant hushpuppies with bacon, onion, cheddar and pork inside of them, very yummy!! My wife had the pulled chicken sandwich and a side of fries. The chicken was very moist and flavorful! The fries were great also! This is some good barbecue, I ordered the "Hot Mess" sandwich which is pulled pork piled high, topped with coleslaw an onion ring and covered in bbq sauce. I also ordered my main go to side dishes whenever I visit a barbecue joint, which is french fries and baked beans. They only offer one sauce and its a good sauce but doesn't really stand out. Their sauce delivers a mild, subtle baseline flavor. It's not over the top, it doesn't have a breakout blend of flavors but it doesn't disappoint either. The pulled pork had a mild smoky flavor, their coleslaw had a nice crunch and wasn't overly creamy, the fries were cooked perfectly and well seasoned and their baked beans were good. Woody's is a solid barbecue joint, it didn't ring the alarm on my bbq meter but is good enough for me to return and try more of their menu. read more

Brisket was moist with more pronounced smoke flavor. My slaw was just bland: The chopped cabbage had little dressing, making the slaw a bit dry. It was an ample portion however. Another day on the town another stop on the BBQ circuit. Big Woody's is a local fan favorite in St. Peters, MO. Nestled is a small Shopping center, you can smell Big Woody's before you get there. Lots of nostalgic and full of character. Plenty of seating and although they have the full line up of traditional BBQ, they offer several options worth trying. The Cubano is a take on the traditional sandwich but with pulled pork and comes with Swiss cheese , mustard and pickles. A great sandwich if you're not feeling bbq. We also tried a 3 meat sampler with brisket, and pulled chicken and pork. Unfortunately, St. Louis style robes are not part of the options for the platter and was a little disappointed. We'll have to then on the next visit. Side dishes were great but you got to try the bacon mac n cheese, this side was a delicious surprise. Few things about your average bbq place, if they offer chicken or turkey, it's usually dry, because that's not what they are good at. Another is sauce. Personally, I love it when bbq places make their own sauces, the more the better! That being said, Big Woody's pulled chicken was moist and delicious. I also got brisket and my partner got ribs. He doesn't love it when any meat comes out sauced already, which I kind of get, it hides the flavor of the meat. But me, I'm a sauce girl. And I like it spicy! The ribs were delightfully falling off the bone, the brisket was cooked to perfection, and for a Friday night, for some reason, this place was empty! We ordered using door dash their pork steak and whole slab of ribs ..each came with 2sides and a large piece of bread.. all arrived amazingly hot and perfectly prepared.. the extra bbq sauce provided ( it has a touch of apple flavor) was greatly appreciated.. I've had these entrees all over the USA and we can honestly say the pork steak was the largest we've ever had.. Tender, flavorful, and delicious. And the ribs.. they were also tender, meaty, and with very little fat. Melt in your mouth quality.... The sides were interesting in relationship to amounts .. The many onion rings and seasoned fries both came in very large white baggies .. rings were very crispy and plentiful .. as were the perfectly seasoned thinner like steak and shake style but firmer fries.. The other two sides were baked beans and their bacon Mac and cheese .. they came in very small styrofoam cup like containers.. both were delicious just very small servings.. I like the interior design of this place, it's quite unique and they also sell Big Woody's merchandise. Service was friendly. They also have meat by the pound (pulled pork $14, pulled chicken $16, and brisket $16) and sides - catering only though. The beef brisket was good, but a bit dry and grainy... the BBQ sauces and potato salad were good though. The hog balls are basically hush puppies with bacon, but also quite dry; would recommend dipping in ranch provided but we made it better by adding jam at home. I'd probably come back again and try the ribs and give brisket another chance just cause they're really close to our home. read more

Funny little signs on the wall to keep your attention. The place is small, and if you use the restroom, you have to walk past all the kitchen and storage area. It wasn't so clean. We both ordered the brisket platter. I ordered sweet potato fries and bbq beans. I didn't realize the brisket came out with sauce poured on top. The bbq sauce lacked flavor and the brisket was really greasy, although I didn't have pieces of fat in my brisket. The meat was smoked nicely and super tender. You could use a fork and it cut like butter. I was really disappointed with the sweet potato fries. They were really thin "waffle fries". Had I known that I would have ordered something else. Overall the food was ok. Not something I would choose again. We do find different restaurants to try and go back to, as we visit the area every Tuesday. We live an hour and a half away. The fried pickles and jalapeño ranch were great, the breading was something different than I have normally seen. The place had just the right touch on decorations, I hate going to generic places ; this one definitely works for me, nice wood tables, old license plates, humorous signs like "no one wants to hear your cat videos, wear earbuds". The food was prepared quickly, and the owner spent some time talking with us while we were there.
