Stopped in here today for lunch. Staff was EXTREMELY courteous and helpful. The food was ok, even a bit disappointing. Brisket was extremely fatty. Pork was good. Fries were terrific. The baked beans though were weird, even to the point of being kinda yucky. Had chunks of celery in them. Nit at all what I would expect from a good bbq restaurant. I fully expected beans with some sauce and meat mixed in. Something deep, sweet and savory. This stuff was the opposite of what I would expect. This location is like, in the middle of nowhere, lol. There were just 2 cars in the parking lot when we arrived, so I don't know when they get busy, but definitely not Mondays at lunch time. Aside from that, this was really good BBQ and I think the best I've had so far in STL. We ordered our food to go: Double Smash Burger - the best burger we've had here so far, not surprised its from a BBQ spot Pork Sandwich - HELLA meat came with this, so I had to share with my husband, but still satisfying Potato Salad - nothing special, but pretty good for potato salad French Fries - pretty good, and well done! We are in the area looking for some bbq. I picked brisket and pork. Picked two sides beans and some collard greens. The greens were tasty and the beans were sweet. I added hush puppies but didn't think the sweet spicy jam was a good fit but the hush puppies were fesh, hot and crunchy. The 4 different types of bbq sauces were good. My favorite was the spicy one. Convenient location off the highway make it a good spot to go for lunch or dinner. They have a nice menu with options for just about everyone and they have gluten free buns also. Had the pulled pork plate with bbq beans and potato salad. The pork was smoked to perfection and tender and flavorful, beans were delicious however the potato salad was a big miss, tasted like it was a combination of potato salad with mashed potatoes mixed in( disappointing) corn bread was a big plus. read more

St. Louis BBQ strikes again. This place was not good, from a food standpoint at least, I walked in just before noon and there was no line. Red flag? You order at the counter, which was easy, and then pay at the end of the line. The cashier was super helpful and offered recommendations on sauces and offered pickles or jalapeños for my To Go order. I ordered the Big Muddy sandwich which came with brisket, sausage, lettuce and pickles. It was also supposed to have horseradish and bbq sauce, but it did not. Maybe because it was To Go? The brisket was sliced right in front of me, but it was bad. It looked tender, but it was supper fatty and could handle be chewed. I spit most of it out. The problem was probably a bad cut of meat and not the smoking, but they still served it to me. The sausage was great, but only had a couple of little slices. I added some of the sweet sauce which was very good. I chose the beans for my side. Fine, but nothing special. A little dry, so I added sauce to help it go down. Then they had some local soda option, so I passed on an overpriced drink. It looks like there are more local options in the area, I would try somewhere else if ever back in this area. read more

Fall off the bone meat, plenty of different sauces to try, fun drink options. What we ordered: Big Muddy - 10/10 had brisket and smoked sausage in it. Had to add more horseradish sauce to it but that's just my preference. Brisket Plate - 9/10 brisket was delicious but knocking off a point because the sides were...ok. Coleslaw had NO flavor just like mush and the Potato salad was nothing to write home about. Needed more flavor. Brownie pie slice: 10/10 moist and crumbly crust. I want an entire pie! Service: There was no one there when we arrived so we had no experience with any wait time. Just went right up to the front to order our meals and they chopped the meat up right in front of us, placed on a tray on top of the counter and we took it to the register to pay. Self service and self seating establishment. The lady at the register was very nice and happy. No complaints there! She was interested to know where we were visiting from and how we liked the food. Disappointment of EPIC full rack proportions!!! All we wanted in St. Louis was some Pappy's Smokehouse ribs, but they had a freakin' sinkhole in their downtown location, and their sister restaurant Bogart's was closed, so we trekked 40 minutes out to the burbs after a Cardinals game to their second location only to be told that they ran out of ribs ten minutes before we arrived. WHAT?! They recommended calling two other restaurants that were "pretty good" and they were BOTH sold out too! Is there a rib shortage in the state of Missouri?? Defeated, we ended up at Sugarfire Smoke House since it was nearby and the only place that actually HAD ribs, and we figured out why quickly enough. First of all, the place was DEAD. There were, maybe, two other people in the entire restaurant. We ordered a half rack of ribs, some mac-n-cheese, collared greens, and baked beans. There is one word to describe that whole spread and it is: MID. Our ribs were tender, yes, but there wasn't much in the flavor department and we saw a couple racks come out after ours and they looked much better, so we definitely feel like we were robbed. The mac-n-cheese was pure goop but OK, while the collards were way too sweet. Same with the beans. Basically, the best part of our meal was (yet another!) Urban Chestnut collab draft beer. Even though the place was virtually empty, it's not like anyone on staff was friendly. They all looked pretty pissed off about having to be at work. I didn't read recent reviews. I ordered a sausage sandwich, which turned out out to be a cheddar/jalapeño link. The menu did not mention the cheddar or jalapeño. A pork steak had good flavor but was very dry. Brisket was a little past prime. Hush puppies were delivered to the table as a side included with the pork steak. Only when they were delivered the server commented they hush puppies weren't considered as a side but the restaurant would let it go. It was an odd experience since hush puppies were listed as a side and nothing was said by the cashier indicating they weren't. There is virtually no table service here. Your food is ordered at the counter and delivered there before you pay. You get your own drinks. You might have an employee remove your plates, or you might bus your own table. read more

Sugarfire has consistently great BBQ smoked meats and creative sides. I checked their Facebook page almost daily to see what their specials are at each location. Some are definitely worth a special trip, so I don't always eat at the location closest to me. You've gotta rig the goods! LOL! One of the regular menu items that has become a favorite is the chicken biscuit which is a fried chicken thigh dunked in their homemade hot sauce and served on a biscuit that is slathered with honey butter. I like to kick it up a notch and add pimento cheese and an egg and make it brunch! I'm always on the lookout for the pork steak special too. I have been disappointed with dry brisket and chewy burnt ends on occasion. Some of the best sides that I've had there are out of the ordinary such as sweet potato salad with a hint of truffle, kale salad, and broccoli salad. What has happened??? Our double burgers were thin & burnt to a crisp "over done"!! I paid extra for cheddar cheese & there was only one slice on the top vs a dice on top of each burger. There were no condiments on the burger. I must have hit a back button losing my LPOK on each burger. The taste was still good even though they were crunchy crispy burnt. I spent $27 for two awful burgers! I hope this was a one-time thing, so I don't have to search for a new place. I can't afford to waste my money. The fries were like noodles. The girl who typically brings my order to the car, waits to scoop the fries until I arrive. There was no ketchup for the fries. I don't recall ever asking for ketchup for fries in the past. My family ordered from here for the 4th of July. The food was ready at the time it was promised, and the guy that brought the food to the car was very nice. We ordered brisket, salmon, a pork steak, collard greens, mac n cheese, scalloped potatoes, and mixed veggies. The brisket and salmon were amazing! My dad did not like the pork steak - he said it was overcooked, tough, and was not seasoned well. The collard greens were the worst I'd ever had - they tasted like pure vinegar. Made another visit to Sugarfire and wasn't disappointed. Took several coworkers from out of town and boy did we hit the jackpot. I know when it comes to BBQ it's all about the scale (everything is weighted) but today it felt the scale was off and lots of tasty deliciousness was served. I've had the pleasure of visiting a few BBQ restaurants in the STL vicinity and Surefire is very consistent at each location. From the cleanliness to service Sugarfire is where it's at. Depending on the time of day you visit be prepared to wait in line or fight for seating. Either way you're getting a great meal and experience. Get the pecan pie. We came here after a long day, for some quick barbecue and it fit the bill. My coworker and I had the three meat plates - mine was brisket, pulled pork and ribs. The pork was fine, but we agreed that it tasted like pork. Nothing to write home about, though a good base for sauces: the texture was good. I had the fatty brisket, which was, as expected, very fatty. Maybe just a touch more than I like, but that's how it goes. The flavor was good by itself and I liked adding their coffee bbq sauce. The ribs were tasty. Maybe a little more dry than I'm accustomed to, but I'm no expert on this region's style. The meat came off the bone easily, though it wasn't "falling off" the bone. I like that: just a bit of work, but not too much. I ate these without sauce. My coworker had the burnt ends and he said they were good, though at least one of the pieces was 100% fat... no meat whatsoever. Back to the pie... I usually fill up on the meat at these places. However, they have a beautiful case of desserts at the cash register and the pecan and sugar pies were competing for my attention pretty hard. My favorite BBQ place in St. Charles County. The brisket is excellent, the ribs are very tasty. These are my go to meats. The pulled pork is good, however, while living in the Memphis area I ate so much pulled pork I got burned out. Sugarfire has really tasty sides as well. I've been here once before while traveling, but my late wife ate here several times a year while on travel. We got the 3 meat combo with risket, pulled pork, and ribs. Sides were potato salad and the hash brown casserole that was one of the daily special sides. All the meats were amazing with loads of flavor and very tender. The ribs had a good bite through without taking all the meat off the bone in one bite. The brisket was tender with a good seasoning on the outside of salt and pepper with a touch of garlic. The hashbrown casserole was the best part of the meal, which is saying a lot as the rest was really good. The potato salad was just ok, not great, and not terrible, but ok. Interesting place with fun decor located in an old drive-in restaurant building. I ordered the three meat combo to sample ribs, pork, and brisket - The Trinity of BBQ. I thought the taste of the meat was good with a mild smoke flavor. All three meats were a little dry giving me the impression that the meat had been sitting for some extended time. I liked that they had 4 or 5 different sauces. While I don't normally add sauce to BBQ I did to overcome some of the dryness. I really liked the St Louie Sweet BBQ sauce and bought a bottle to go to place in my BBQ cabinet. I tried the smoked chocolate chip cookie. OMG, it was so good. I saw they had great looking shakes, including adult shakes with bourbon, so maybe I need to go back and try them. The atmosphere was excellent and the employees were even better. You cannot go wrong with Sugarfire! I gave them 5 stars because first is their proximity to my house, a few miles drive and you'll have the best tasting pulled pork, baby back ribs, burnt ends, sides, sauces and so on! Whenever we crave for barbecue, this is our go to place. The atmosphere is awesome here, you feel connected to the place with all the decorations and photos they have inside. The line gets long easily, especially on peak hours at lunch and dinner and so come in 30 mins to an hour before lunch or dinner to get all those goodness. I love sauces, and I particularly love their white barbecue sauce combined with the hot barbecue one. And I always get this feeling that when they prepare the meat on your plate (your tray is your plate) it's not enough but oh man, with the side and the sauce, I end up being full all the time. They also serve I think their own brand or some local brand of soda and not your typical coke or pepsi products. I don't drink soda but I think that's something cool. This has been my local "go to" BBQ joint for several years. I have been here so many times. I enjoy every single visit. Daily specials and sides keep me coming back as well as some of the regular menu items such as the brisket cheesesteak. The smoked meats are pretty consistent in quality and taste. If you're not into BBQ they have other offerings such as burgers. The same style/type of burgers you'd find at Hi-Pointe Drive-In in St. Louis which is operated by the same owner. Sugarfire offers lots of BBQ sauce options, but one unique sauce I'd recommend trying is the coffee BBQ sauce. I know it sounds weird, but if you like coffee flavor you will like this sauce. I especially like it on brisket. If you are not from the St. Louis area, you should know that Sugarfire is one of the best BBQ in the area. read more
