Small mom and pop place. Very friendly. The place could use a few updates and repairs from my view but I'm sure the owner will get to those. The food was good. You can tell they have a lot of locals frequent there. The owner did come around and talked with us and that was appreciated. It gave us a little history of his place. Y'all that Italian sausage was soooo good. The owner told us he gets it brought in from Chicago. It came on the white pizza. My sister could not stop talking about it. We absolutely love this restaurant. The food is outstanding and you get what you paid for. The Chicago style pizza is so thick and tasty, just as it should be. We also tried their new wings and wow! Wow is the perfect word to describe them. They are crunchy and full of flavor. We also tried their parmesan fries and I must say, they rock! We recently also went for lunch and they have wonderful lunch specials. I just live great lunch specials. One of the best thing about this place is the customer service. I visited for the first time on a Thursday evening. There were only 3 other parties in the restaurant. I sat at the bar and was welcomed by Tyler. He is Big Z's son! Inside the place looked like your typical sports bar but with chicago and Houston teams. I ordered the big Zs special plus pepperoni deep dish. The waitress let me know itll be a while for the deep dish so I ordered some meat balls. The meatballs came out within 7 mins. The first bite was AMAZING. The meatballs were covered in homemade tomato sauce which was to die for! The meatball itself had a nice crispy crunch on the outside. The Big Zs deep dish was everything I expected. Melted cheese, perfect texture, and of course the amazing tomato sauce. My only complaint is that there wasn't more sauce! Highly recommended! Had been craving a Chicago deep dish pizza and was looking in town for some places and had gotten a couple of suggestions from friends. One of my buddies is from Chicago and told me, "This place is the real deal", and how do you argue with that? My only issue is that this place is in Katy and 45 mins from me so it took some planning to be able to make the trip. Got there early so we could be the first ones there since Chicago deep dish can take 30 mins or so to get cooked and served. The restaurant opened a little late so that had us scared that maybe they were no longer in business. We called and spoke with someone and they said they were there and just running behind. We got in and I wanted to try a chili cheese dog before getting to pizza. I know that's not a Chicago staple but I like the Vienna brand franks and wanted one. It was really good. The staff there was really friendly. We chatted a bit and we learned they're a family from Chicago. Can't remember the owner's name but he was really cool. The pizza came out and of course it was super delicious. Outside of delicious food, great friendly service, and a clean, comfortable atmosphere, I'm not sure what else to say. Go try it for yourself. Ok, a couple of things went wrong here: First, as soon as we came in and sat down our waiter came by and asked us what we wanted. We told him we needed a minute to decide, and then he didn't come back for almost 10 minutes later. That being said, we had put in another long day covering over 500 miles on our bikes - from Biloxi, Ms. to here in Katy, Tx., stopping only for fuel, and drinks. To say we were starving is an understatement. We had seen the reviews on Yelp of their deep dish, Chicago style pizza, and was excited to try it. We ordered their "Chicago Favorite" - sausage, mushrooms, onions, and green peppers! We were enjoying our second Shiner Bock when the next thing went awry. Second, Our server brought the pizza out - but it was thin crust. I looked at it, looked at our server and said, that's not deep dish. I told him again what I'd ordered , and he explained that they make that specialty in both thin crust and deep dish. Well, shame on me for being a first time Customer and not specifying, but shame on him for not asking us thin or deep dish when we ordered it, and just assuming we wanted thin crust. However, he said it was his mistake and he went back to start the deep dish order. Another 25 minutes passed before our pizza finally arrived. I have to say the wait was worth it. It was very, very good! It had been a long time since I'd had good deep dish pizza and this fit the bill. I would definitely come back again. Our server thanked us for coming in and so I'm giving them 4 Stars. The moral of this story is, it's important to make a good first impression, but even if the start is a little rough, it's how you finish that's important. I think "Big Z's" did a very good job of finishing. If you haven't tried them, give them a try. read more

For all you Yelpers looking at the Thin crust please do not pay any attention to the fact that it looks like there's a piece of pizza missing! What you see is a bit of an unexplained phenomenon that happens to people who order Chicago style thin crust pizza cut into squares. What happens is that Somewhere between the pizza joint and the house, piece of pizza mysteriously ends up missing. There's no known explanation for why this happens, it just does. And some things are just better left uninvestigated. Just sayin! Back to my review. Ahem! Ok Big Z...I asked, and you delivered, when I asked for you too add some Italian seasoning and crushed red pepper to the before putting in the oven. And I'm sure a bunch of you Texans are wondering "what the hell is wrong with this dude?" And the answer is a lot, however it's not uncommon for pizza joints to add Italian seasoning to the top of a Thin crust! Ahem! Again...some things are better left alone! All I can say is bravo! Freaking Bravo! In my original review I critiqued you're deep dish as being pretty darn awesome and weighing a ton, although a little burnt on the top...which many like, and comparing the sauce to Giordanos stuffed pizza as opposed to Gino or Lou's deep dish. First, real italian sausage... talking with the owner, it's brought in from South Chicago... Sauce is better than DeRango's (IYKYK) Crust is super thin, and amazing. Cheese... it's real cheese. Let me first say that the pizza was really good. We got the thin crust 14-inch. It was simply delicious. It rivals Keneally's for that tavern-style pizza. And they have a very good draft beer selection. With that said, let me address the service. It's lacking. It's slow. It's annoying. We came the night before the Texans played the Bears on Sunday Night Football. And since this is a Chicago style pizza place, it's a gathering place for Bears fans...which is great. But it really seemed that if you had a Bears jersey on, you got demonstrably better service. They only had two servers working the floor, and while it wasn't packed, it was certainly busy. The woman who was waiting tables seemed to be everybody's friend. Socializing. Occasionally sitting down with tables of customers. Again, great, but you need to take care of all of your customers...not just the ones you're buddies with. At one point I asked for a refill of water. (She never came around to refill waters on her own initiative.). She took my glass and never came back. The next time I needed a refill--because there was far more ice than water--I had to go to the counter to get more water. The young man who was waiting tables seemed confused, not sure of exactly how to do his job. Their problems with service really were a shame because it seems like a great place to watch a game, and the pizza is delicious. Hence the four stars. read more

I felt that I was having a pizza from back home. All three things tasted great. I'll definitely be coming back. I'll need to try their gyros. The food is unbelievable and is a must try! My husband and I are slowlly working our way through the menu, but it's extremely hard given it's a pizzeria! The Chicago style is sooooo good, OMG the crust! The toppings are cooked just right, but the star of the show is the SAUCE!! I want to eat it everyday!! However I had my two babies with my and the Togo order was an hour behind. So I sat there for an hour. Then when I left and took the order home...... it wasn't even the pizza I ordered. It was still good, but I could have ordered pepperoni at dominos and been pleased. Going to take a manager stepping up to the plate to get me to give them another chance. I didn't call to try and reconcile because the poor staff was already so stressed from all the other customers who were pissed because of how behind they were.
