In Missoula, MT and searching for a local pizza joint, not a chain store. Biga Pizza was suggested by the hotel staff, airport personnel and shop owners. It is an eclectic simple haunt with a diverse clientele. They are in downtown Missoula on a main drag. The restaurant's focal point is a large pizza oven that is cranking out custom pies. They have standard suggestions but encourage you to create your order. The salads are flush with local, in seasonal produce with unique combinations. We ordered a large half pepperoni and half pepperoni with goat cheese along with a great salad. The salad had organic blueberries, apples, pumpkin seed granola, goat cheese, and mixed greens. The dressing was a white wine balsalmic vinegarette. The pizza was good, crust was a bit dry. The flavor was tasty but a bit oily. The salad combination hit the spot, was intriguing with flavors and crunch. The salads here are exceptional and the pizza was ok. Some of the oil may be a result of the pepperoni and goat cheese combination. This is a good pizza shop but not one I must try again. read more

Tried the bread and spread appetizer, Caesar salad and Sicilian pizza. The appetizer plate featured extremely old and discolored pesto that tasted off, no where close to fresh, the hummus was mediocre, and the sun dried tomato pesto wasn't very appealing. The breads served were disappointing, the focaccia was very bland and the crostini's were stale and seemed at least 2-3 days old. The Caesar salad was bright in dressing profile but the cheese on the salad was waxy and definitely not genuine parmigiana. The Sicilian pizza was extremely disappointing. The toppings were not good, the crust was not flavorful. Multiple ingredients throughout the meal seemed like they were past their prime. As a longtime customer I was very disappointed with the wait staff during my last visit. I stopped by on February 28th for lunch and ended up walking out of the restaurant after sitting for over 10 minutes without any water or menus. This was around 3 and there was only one other table in the entire restaurant. My waitress was well aware that we had been sitting there without menus since she's the one who told me to sit wherever. After about 10 minutes another waitress went up to her and asked if she was going to take care of our table. She said yes, but then proceeded to talk about her tattoos and dogs with the third waitress at the restaurant.I have been a customer of Bigga for over a decade and have never received such bad service. I love coming here and while there are pizza is absolutely amazing. I actually order a sandwich every time I come there. I love their focaccia sandwich. They use fresh ingredients and their bread is wonderful. It comes alongside olive salad and chips. I consider it a large portion and I always take half of the sandwich home and eat it the next day. We have had great pizza and salad from biga in the past but we ordered a pizza and salad for delivery tonight and it was truly awful. To their credit, the delivery was very prompt and timely. However, the pizza was really disappointing as was the salad. We ordered a cheese pizza with sausage, mushrooms, garlic olives, and basil, and they were hardly any mushrooms barely any sausage only a few olives. It was a exceedingly bland pizza.. We also ordered a Caesar salad with extra dressing and no toast.. The salad came without toast kudos however the dressing was more like a kind of thousand island rather than a Caesar dressing and it really just tasted super off.. Excellent place to stop at in Missoula and visit! I was on my whitefish and was recommended to try Biga out. It was very busy, but the staff were still very helpful, patient, and down to Earth. Special thank you to Zeke who helped me with my take out order. The wait time was about 40-60 minutes (which is expected due to this place being popular), but worth the wait! As for the interior it's very basic, not much to see. Docking one star because I got their gluten free crust and it wasn't the best. Otherwise, the pizza itself was yummy! The pizza was great, I love my marinara so, I was a bit disappointed that the sauce wasn't there but it also didn't say that it was in the description so that's on me. It was tasty-good amount of goat cheese, i think I just expected a bit more flavor. The gluten free crust is good. As gluten free crust is, it was a bit doughy. I assume it's because it gets crazy crunchy when cooked Al the way. Which I would expect. It was still tasty-just due to the doughy nature it lacked some flavor. I didn't expect to find any gluten free pizza at this random stop so it was delicious for what it is worth. I also got the raspberry gluten free parfait. AMAZING!!!! Think of a strawberry shortcake with raspberries instead! So absolutely delicious 5 stars for that dessert! It was perfect!! I give this four stars because I also have a bit of a cold and the lack of flavor in the pizza might be due to that. But I came in and sat by myself-wasn't busy when I came in then got busier as I waited. Not really any chatty customer service and I had to remind them about my dessert but k got everything I ordered in a decent amount of time so it was decent service. If that makes sense. Oh man, this might be my favorite pizza place! It is all hand made (I think wood fire, but am not sure?). The staff is friendly and helpful, and the food is TO DIE FOR! The restaurant also absolutely nailed a classic (maybe even vintage?) pizzeria vibe Their menu has some very unique options but have something for everybody. I couldn't decide between two pies but they do half and half! Also, their salads are hearty, delicious, and filling! Stopped in here on the way through Montana because I heard a nasty rumor that the pizza is good. It is my informed opinion that the only way someone could make that claim is if they ate it while feeling more baked than the pizza itself, which is a guarantee in Missoula. I walked in the "main room" at 8:01pm and was told that service ended at 8pm; okay. I was then instructed to sneak through the bar next door and to the back door of the other side of Biga's, which served slices and takeout. On a whim, I decide on the "4-Cheese & Hot Honey" and the Tiramisu Parfait to go, and added sausage (allegedly housemade). I received the order and opened it in my car, revealing a thimble of sausage crumbles struggling for life atop a gloppy, disgusting and undercooked mucus of a pizza. In addition to that, my "Ready Whip Surprise" disguised as tiramisu had a date of 12/29 on it (it's 1/4). I took a few bites of the lavaesque slabs of Elmer's glue plastered onto the mostly raw dough and threw it in the garbage. On the website, it states the owner is from New Jersey, which makes sense that he's hiding out in Montana, since he's probably been banned for life from the New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia Pizza Police for food crimes against humanity. read more

Okay, let me start with I'm a Jersey boy so I'm very particular about my pizza. I went in with high hopes but a bit let down as we search for the best crust in town. Don't get me wrong the pizza was good but knowing the owner came from Jersey I was hoping for a thinner crust. I know it's the water and hard to replicate. I suspect the base for the dressing was Dijon mustard. Although I liked it, I thought it was a little heavy on the lemon and my boyfriend thought the anchovy was a bit much. The shaved Parmesan cheese was legit. For the pizza, my boyfriend ordered the Sweet Potato, Bacon & Maple Chipotle, and I went with the Quattro Formaggio. The crust on that pizza was first class all the way. Both kinds of pizza were delicious, but my boyfriend's choice had a slight edge. He asked for some ranch dressing for dipping. It turned out that their house-made ranch was mind-blowing. I am not typically a fan of ranch dressing, but the dill in their dressing was perfection. I stopped after a slice of each type of pizza so I would have room for dessert. The chocolate mousse was so good that I nearly wept as I ate it. Called them at 7:40 pm to order a pickup. It was a small order and they said it would be ready at 8:25 pm. Not too bad a wait so we were fine with it and showed up at 8:25 and they made us wait 20 minutes because it wasn't ready. Having already waited for a long time we took our food and left and were SUPER nice about it. We ordered a gluten free cheese pizza because my girlfriend is allergic to gluten and they made it with normal crust. We walked back in and I told them we wanted a gluten free cheese pizza and that's what we had ordered. One of the workers walked up to us and said "yeah I didn't hear gluten free on the phone" and I REMEMBER CALLING AND SHE MADE SURE IT WAS GLUTEN FREE ON THE PHONE. So how did she not hear it? Then we couldn't wait for another pizza to be made because it was late. So we asked for money back or store credit and the lady talked down to us like we were idiots. Thanks for being rude because my girlfriend is allergic to gluten. I will NEVER be ordering pickup again because of this rude lady. My friend said the house pizza was good - lots of cheese, great crust. It looked and smelled good! Service was fine. But the gluten free pizza crust was unholy. It had been cut, but I had to saw away at the cut lines with a knife to dislodge a slice. I asked them to recut it. That helped some and I was able to eat a couple slices. The sauce was good. Good amount of cheese. The crust I had to chew - a lot - like it was shredded melted plastic water bottles and glue formed in a circle. Please stop offering this crust as a food item. I came here on a Saturday evening at 7:30pm and was told it would be a 25-30 minute wait. I gave my phone number and had a drink at Cranky Sam next door while I waited for my phone to ring. They recommend making reservations the day before or ordering to-go which will be quicker. You can do half and half of two different kinds of pizza for only $1 which is great because I can try multiple flavors. The total for a 12" split pizza was $16.50. I ordered the caramelized goat and the meatball verde and they were both fantastic! The meatball verde and especially the cilantro-jalapeno sauce was to die for! It was so flavorful I could not get enough of it. The caramelized onions and the goat cheese are also really good and pair well together with a balance of salty and sweet. You cannot go wrong with either one of these pizzas. I ate the whole pizza because I was really hungry and both of these pizzas really hit the spot! read more
