Gave it to him and then proceeded to ask him if he'd like a day old pastry? He said yes! The barista grabbed the pastry and he was on his way. I was a little shook. Being from LA I don't see the unhoused community treated this way. Showing them basic decency offering them something warm to drink and a pastry. This town runs a little differently and it warmed my sometimes jaded heart. I stayed and chatted with the barista and thanked them for their humanity. They explained they have a community card where the community shared the expense. I'm floored. I hope this spreads and I'm gonna do my best to do the same. Another person just came in.
