I've recommended this business countless times, and will continue to do so because they are fantastic!! The customer service is great, everyone in there is very friendly and helpful, and they have a wide array of services. I only really use their photo development service, but they have so much more to offer. They're a million times better than any CVS or Walgreens printing services. The process is so much simpler, faster, and cheaper, and you don't have to sit at a massive screen in the middle of a store picking photos for everyone to see: I bring in my disposable and pay roughly $11 for processing, they almost always tell me it'll probably be a few days before it's ready, then I'm always pleasantly surprised when I see the transfer link in my email later that same day or the next. I absolutely love that you have the option to just download them digitally or also order prints on the website. Then the prints are cheap too - you can print 100 photos for about $30 and I think that's an insanely good deal. Joey from Biggs was a huge help. They had a lens I needed rush shipped and he was able to last minute overnight the Sigma 50-100/1.8 lens I could use for a concert shoot at a medium sized low-lit club here in Austin for the Ellis Bullard Band's live album taping. As far as performance of the lens itself, for such a large zoom ability, its 1.8/f aperture was perfect for the low-light conditions. Could be anywhere in the club and zoom in like I was right on stage. 10/10 on the lens and a 12/10 on service from Joey and Biggs Camera. For the pros out there, I wouldn't process your film here. It was my first (and last) time using them and I was already weary based on friends who had bad experiences with them. I should have listened. My color negatives had excessive scratches which took days to paint out after scanning... but worst of all they over-baked and entirely ruined a roll of my B&W film. I suppose its good this wasn't for one of my motion picture studio clients, but I'll never get my family reunion photos back. There wasn't even an apology given by anyone. I also should have known better when I dropped my film off with them and overheard one staff person ask the other "Was that roll of film ruined?" and the other said "Yes". Apparently its a regular occurrence there. Simply put, I'll continue to mail my film to labs in NYC and LA. read more

BEWARE!!!!! ALL CUSTOMERS PLS READ!!!!! This establishment has the potential to be a great place to service customers HOWEVER....this policy about renting equipment with credit cards only is absurd. I imagine the many reasons why they choose to only allow credit cards to be used for rentals but for new photography business owners this is a huge inconvenience. One: starting out you may not have enough money to purchase equipment outright which would leave the option to rent equipment and as a new business you can't even get a credit card for your business until proving income after 2 years of being established. Two: Personally you may not have great credit to get a personal credit card to rent out equipment. If I had to suggest a solution to this problem it would be to put a hold on the card for x amount of dollars in good faith that the equipment will be returned when it should be returned and if not they are permanently banned from shopping at Biggs. Overall this policy must be changed it only serves individuals who are fairly well off as opposed to working with people who may not have the complete funds to access quality equipment to build their business. read more

I always buy and take my film to be developed here and it's always been such a great experience. And so fast too! I'll often get my film back the same day. The staff are all very knowledgeable and helpful and the place always feels appropriately staffed (which you don't see often these days!). Rare store with knowledgeable staff. My last trip here was to buy Polaroid film, which they have an abundance of. The parking lot is a little tricky, but usually it's not that bad. They share the lot with edible arrangements and maybe another business that I can't recall at the moment, but the lot is really never full. Probably best to go on weekdays since weekends would have more potential to fill up the lot. I can see you spending a ton of time browsing around this store, from their different services they offer, camera parts, film developing, it's a photographers dream store. It's nice to have a brick and mortar store like this rather than having to wait for shipping and online retail. read more

I bought this camera less than a year ago here and used it for class, I tried to sell it back to them and the guy said it was impossible since there was white rust on the battery(witch it got sold like this is) Be careful on what you buy here bc it might be sold to you at very bad conditions on the inside is my advice. Amazing experience at Biggs. I wish I had gotten the gentleman's name, because he deserves a huge shout out. I came in very frustrated after just dealing with another very rude camera store, and I was worried I would be treated the same. I could not have been more wrong! I was greeted immediately, with eye contact and enthusiasm. The gentleman answered all my questions about renting equipment, what equipment would be bet for my project, tips for the best shot with what I was renting, and how to get a discount (by renting for 2 days, you get 20% off!). I was worried about how expensive it would be to rent equipment and wanted to rent for as little time as possible to save cost. He even helped me through the process of renting, which is done online, and he took me through each step and helped me choose the best type of equipment for my project. I never felt like I was being rushed out, I had his undivided attention, and he never pushed me to buy or rent anything. Also, every employee was wearing a face mask (over their noses, too!) which was a welcome sight. Keep up the great work, Biggs! I'll be back! read more

First, Biggs Camera did offer to give a refund if I wasn't satisfied with their 3rd attempt at getting my sensor cleaned and they did offer to send it to Nikon if it wasn't clean after their third attempt. That isn't my complaint. NOBODY IS GOING TO CALL ME A LIER. I took the camera back after the first attempt at cleaning. Thear own employee said it was very dirty still. Got it back after the second attempt, took pictures of a white screen. Better but still not clean so back I go with pictures I took of the screen with my camera. They took it back for a third try. I'm still not upset. I get the camera back with a note attached and highlighted stating the camera was given back with a clean sensor each time. That implies to me that I'm making my sensor dirty again each time. Kinda hard to do if the only thing I did was put a lens back on the camera and test it out, IN MY COMPUTER ROOM. That is what realy irked me to the point of beyond mad. I called after the third attempt after reading what was on the note with my camera. I was told that I wasn't supposed to have received that message but.... there was two copies. Yes I told the young lady I didn't appreciate what that implied. She transfered me to a JERK manager. Now, he says in between my irate lines that his guy told him that he could not get the sensor clean and to send it to Nikon to get a deep cleaning. So which is it? A camera that a clean sensor each time or one that their guy could not get clean. Sounds to me like they didn't know what the heck they were talking about. Now if that note wasn't sent back with my camera and implied I was the problem all would have been well. You see the sensor was finally clean after the third attempt. Even if it had not been I did not want a refund or my camera sent to Nikon free of charge. I wanted an appology for their guy out and out lying implying he had cleaned it correctly and the problem was created by me, I was getting the sensor dirty again by putting a lens on it and crecking to see if it was clean. In my computer room no less. Don't imply that I'm a lier and no matter how heated the situation gets don't call me derogatory names. I didn't create the problem although I was upset by the note attached with my camera not that the sensor wasn't clean the first two times. read more

I have been here a few times and the experiences haven't been that great. There are some very knowledgeable people who wrk here but they want to sell what they want to sell. I came in looking for a specific camera and unfortunately they did not have it in stock. The salesperson proceeded to tell me how bad this was and he had something much better. I was in quick need of a telephoto lens for my dslr as my original had been delayed in shipping. I called Biggs and they told me they had several in stock, new and used. I needed the lens but didnt have time to run home and grab my Nikon body. They had a Nikon body with the same specs as mine that i was able to test out the lens prior to purchasing. The store was somewhat cramped but it helped me to get in and out lol. Im also looking to upgrade my entry level Nikon camera to a new Sony mirrorless. It just so happened to be a Sony rep in the store who showed me everything i needed to know between the two Sonys that i was considering. All in all, Biggs was everything i needed and i found out they rent lens also. I will no longer order from online before testing out a lens at Biggs first. Sooo looks like I'm the odd man out. But I won't go extreme and I won't go easy on this place either. Definitely not a 5 star experience but certainly worthy of 4. I really liked this shop. Now that I finally made it in to see what they're all about I was impressed with their selection. Being closed on Sundays is a bit of a downside for me because it's one of the only days I can usually make it down this way. The selection was awesome and they had everything you could expect as a professional or hobbyist photographer and then some. They're the only place I've seen in the area with Ilford film for example. There were at least 4 guys working here when I went in. Of them only ONE came and asked me if I needed help and was even nice about it. He was an older gentleman named George. He was extremely helpful and even insistent on helping me find what I was looking for to accessorize my old 35mm Pentax K1000. But when I went to check out and pick out some film on the other side it seemed like the only thing the other guys could even muster up was some kind of stupid inside joke amongst themselves. It's unfortunate that a place with such great potential has a majority inconsiderate staff. In my interactions as a photographer and assistant working with other photographers I have found that many of them really are inconsiderate, pretentious and down-right pompous. It's one of the things that has really turned me off to being a photographer. I'll stick to being a hobbyist. read more

I was very disappointed with Biggs today. I called this morning and reserved a lens to rent for the weekend, whomever i spoke to on the phone told me i could come and pick it up after 2pm. I live in Huntersville and drove into the heart of Charlotte just to be told that since last month they only accept credit cards as a form of payment to rent their equipment. I understand that they may have had issues with customers returning equipment damaged and maybe refusing to pay for it, but it seems like there would be a better business practice put into place to account for that instead of penalizing loyal customers. The biggest upset was that i had just talked to someone this morning and even visited their website prior to that to try to decide what I'd like to rent if available. It would probably be in their best interest to put this new policy on their website, or at least inform people who call to reserve rentals. Really could have saved me a trip. read more

Everyone was very nice but they have some weird pricing policies. For example, i wanted 5 photos scanned and they said it was a $20 minimum for scans. Thats dumb and excessive so I went to Kinkos where they charged me 6 bucks and threw in a disk. read more

I've rented lenses from these guys many times and they are always super friendly and helpful. They also have a huge selection of bags, tripods, lenses, lighting, used gear, etc. laid out in a way which makes it easy to browse and try out. I've never seen an upset customer in their store, and I've heard them talk customers through camera mechanics in helpful and non-intimidating ways - and with a wide range of experience levels from first-camera-buyers to professionals. Every time I leave the store I feel good about the experience. I was shocked to see a they had a 3.5/5 star rating (at time of this review, hope it changes..) as I'm used to businesses with that kind of rating on yelp actually having some issues which warrants the rating. On the contrary, this is a shop run by professionals who all know what they are talking about and seem to really enjoy what they do. read more

I've been a Biggs customer since the 90's. I always gotten great advice and direction on all my camera needs. They where my obvious choice when I had a scan disc I couldn't down load the pictures from. I called and was told just bring it in. They have a device they can check if the pictures are retrievable. I did just that. I was greeted promptly by a very friendly young lady. She put my disc in the computer to verify it was not downloadable and advised me she would have to do a little more work on retrieving them. She was taking my info when a man walked up and ask a few questions and said we can't help you. The disc is corrupt and its probably a loss. He gave me a pamphlet for a company out west who specializes in this kind of thing. I called them and they told me the retrieval would start at $900. I about had a heart attack. I simply could not afford that but the pictures where so important to me, they where of my oldest brother with our family. My brother leaves in MO and is very sick. I probably will not see him alive again. The man on the phone ask a few questions and told me I should visit another camera store which I promptly did. I visited Biggs competitor and they had all my pictures on a scan disc within two hours. I am deeply disappointed in Biggs but happy I found a new place to do business!!!! read more

Anyone that knows me knows I shoot ALOT of images. So I know my way around camera stores. This is primarily a consumer grade camera store. So for the good: The store is close to the center of Charlotte. They do a great job having consumer grade cameras& prosumer grade cameras. The staff is nice and very knowledgeable, they can come off harsh to some people be I'm ok with that because it can over load folks. They do have some high end gear but it's very limited. And bad: (I hate this because I see potential in this store) Because the store is small they can only have so much gear. (I get that) And it's very limiting! Their hours during the week make it impossible to visit. I do my shooting on the weekends so I need to get stuff during the week. Closing at 6pm during the week doesn't help, so on weekends they are Slammed!! Things they could do, stay open later during the week. Keep improving there camera and video options. read more

I had some difficulties with a rental over the weekend. I wasn't able to capture any photos from the events. I called Biggs and we troubleshot things over the phone without resolution. When I returned the equipment Monday morning and told them about the problem they were friendly, understanding and offered a full refund. So, I grew up a 35mm junkie and gradually had to work myself up to a digital SLR. Though I lament the fact that I can't sustain a hobby of shooting 35mm or medium format film and developing anymore, it's nice that Biggs is in town with plenty of supplies. I've been a customer for a few years now and have always been pleased with the selection of gear, resources and used/rental equipment. They've got all of the necessaries for Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, and other brand loyalists. I'm a Canon guy and have always been able to find what I'm in the market for. I most recently found a lens hood for my 50mm 1.4 that was pretty hard to track down even on the internet. Also, recently sold an old Pentax K1000 and some old darkroom gear here. For the shape that some of it was in, I got a pretty good deal. Where I think Biggs has some serious shortcomings is their customer service. Here's the deal, if you're not a professional photographer, (I personally am not. Just a hobby I've had for years) then you don't need to be condescending. I've had a few instances where a few of the staff members seemed to act a little more than inconvenienced to work with me. Not that it's a huge deal, but when I'm interested in checking out a lens from behind the counter, I don't need to hear a diatribe on WHY I shouldn't purchase that particular lens. It's what I'm in the market for. I do Just a bit of a flaw for the hobbyists on the customer service side of the coin. In a pinch, these guys have always come through. Glad to have em in town. Clean up the attitude a bit and I think it'll spit-shine up to 4 stars no problem! read more

The staff were condescending and outright rude. The place smells of a dentist's office, they don't have that much variety in their product, and the prices are subpar. After getting snapped at by one of the workers when I asked if they had any 52mm lens caps (the place they're normally kept was out), I decided to wander around and observe their interactions with other customers. Biggs has been a landmark in Charlotte photography for years. I'm glad they exist, I'm glad they have staff that knows what they are doing, and I'm glad they support my photog needs. Need a long lens for a gig, you can rent it. Need to do some bargain hunting, there's bins for that. Looking at an array of bags for that next trek across Katmandu, plenty to look at. I also enjoy talking to their staff, they shoot, they know whats current and coming up and try and steer you in a safe harbor of a direction. These days thats important since the diversity that exists out there is not getting any simpler to parse. While I do enjoy everyone at Biggs I always enjoy talking to Scott. He's like a walking wikipedia of digital and film. He shares his knowledge with a smile and he's not pushy at all when it comes to getting you geared up. The landscape in Charlottes camera shops has changed radically over the last few decades and Biggs is still here. That tells you something. The staff is not very friendly and act like they don't really care. I was in from Chicago to shoot a small job... No need for a backup body... Wrong!! I knew better!! I found Biggs on Yelp, cabbed it over, and was back on the job in 30 minutes with a rental! Everyone there was so nice and helpful. I also didn't have to sign my life away and first born just to rent a body for a day! When I returned the body the place was packed! I always like seeing a camera store packed... I also like actually seeing a camera store! It reminded me of some of the old Chicago stores which have vanished over the years and I really miss. I recently found a nice film camera while cleaning out my parents house and wanted to pick it up as a hobby, but had no clue where to start. I brought it in and said basically that, and the guy could not have been nicer! He was happy to tell me what I needed to get started and gave me a run down of the camera's operations. He could've easily just sold me batteries and an expensive film pack, but he took some extra time to go over it with me. I've been back in twice to get film processed/buy more film and each time the employees have been extremely helpful and made sure I was getting what I wanted. Biggs is awesome! I live north of the city so it's a hike to get here but anytime I'm close, I stop by and it's absolutely my go-to place when I need equipment. This is a busy store. I'm pretty sure it's the only (viable) camera store in the greater Charlotte metropolitan area. They've survived because they're good. They know their stuff! Whether you're a beginner or a long time pro, Biggs is great. If you have a problem with crowds, go during the week and avoid the lunch hour traffic. Once you have an associate, they will help you through everything. These people know about photography. If you want someone warm and perky, go to Best Buy. Needed photos for a fundraiser and would never recommend using their print Kiosks. Used them and still had to wait over an hour to have the photos printed. When I returned to grab the photos, they were HORRIBLE quality. On top of this, they are raping those of us who still shoot film. I was charged double for a box of Portra 400. I can get the same thing for half the price on B&H. Certainly will never be using Biggs to purchase film ever again. read more
