As long as you are coming in with the expectation that this is not Las Vegas Strip luxury you will be fine. The location is very easy to find and there is ample parking. If you can't get lower level parking you can drop off your luggage by the front then park. Check in was very easy. They will hold a $250 incidental fee on your card until you check out. Pets of all sizes are allowed. It is a $30 fee plus tax. We brought our Great Dane and she loved it. Pets are allowed in all areas except the restaurant. The restaurant does not have outdoor dining but you can get your food to go and eat at the tables in the patio in the front of the hotel or at the tables in the lobby. Well behaved pets are welcome in the bar. They do serve food as well. If you require any ADA accommodations you can ask for a first floor room. The lodge does not have elevators. We booked a junior suite and we got the third floor. We had a small balcony that overlooked the resort and mountains. The room was clean with a large bed and a small couch. We put a blanket down in the couch and our Great Dane slept like a rock the entire night. We had a wonderful getaway and enjoyed the cool mountain air.

The vibe/aesthetic is very cabin lodge in the mountains, bears, very vintage games, taxidermy mounts on the walls, very on brand. Check-in was a really easy process, the front desk employees were incredibly kind and very helpful. I really appreciate that they were able to hold my bags for me until check-in. The retreat has a bar, a restaurant, and a café. The only thing that I did not do was go in the café. The bar was pretty busy when we were there in the evening, the employees seemed a little bit overwhelmed, but did the best they could with how many people were there. There are gorgeous views of the mountains from the bar in the daytime. You can order food from the bar, if the restaurant is too busy. My friend had dinner at the bar she got a fettuccine Alfredo that she said was really good. We had breakfast there the next day and had the kindest waitress, and she just had such a beautiful energy to her. And the portions are huge and really good. I did scrambled eggs with breakfast potatoes, fruit, and tea, Absolutely perfect. There are no elevators at the hotel, so if you are staying on the top floor, just know that you have to bring everything upstairs and there's quite a few stairs you have to take. (Even if you're staying on the first floor, you still have to take one flight of stairs.) We did the balcony double queen room, it's a pretty decent size though the ceiling is slanted so it's not as tall in some places, but it had a nice charm to it. The balcony sits two people and has a gorgeous view from the front of the mountains. I absolutely loved waking up and going out there. The room was definitely outdated, the beds were alright, more on the soft firm side, sheets were clean, two pillows per bed. Interesting that there was no phone in the room if we needed to call the front desk or housekeeping for anything. One thing I will say that I was pretty shocked by is how dirty the floors were in the room. My feet were completely black, so next time I stay up there I know to bring slippers or slides. The shower was pretty interesting, it took quite a bit for the hot water to turn on and the knob turned a whole 360 and would shut off if you accidentally went back to the beginning from the other direction, But once it was hot, it was really hot! The tub/shower was definitely a little worn down. There is a timed heat light in the bathroom in case you get cold. The bathroom had the typical towels, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, soap, bars, toilet paper, and tissues. The room had a coffee machine with coffee packets, cups, etc. and an ice bucket. And a mini fridge in the cabinet under the TV. The nightstand has outlets on the side of it. There were two chairs in the room, the nightstand, the dresser, and then there was another mini dresser and a mini closet and a full length mirror. The TV does have a few stations and then you can log into Netflix from what I saw on the TV. There is free Wi-Fi but they give you a little piece of paper with a code and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and then you have to go back to the front desk because they aren't sure which ones work. My experience at the retreat was very lovely, I was there for a wellness event and it was absolutely beautiful and I hope they continue to have events like that up there more often. I love the lobby and the aesthetics. There's a lot of character throughout the first floor of the hotel, like they even have trees growing from in the center in the ballroom. But as a Vegas local that grew up in the hotels, I do have a pretty high standard for cleanliness in hotel rooms and the room seemed clean on the surface, but wasn't as clean as I thought it was at first. So I know for next time to be more aware of that from the beginning.

We added Canyon Restaurant to our trip itinerary only after resolving our misunderstanding: it had NOT burned down in 2021 (that was Mt. Charleston Lodge, a couple miles further up Kyle Canyon). Canyon Restaurant is integral to "The Resort on Mount Charleston" which is what the sign reads. Oddly, both Apple Maps and Google Maps identify it as "The Retreat on Mount Charleston." We were not hotel guests, so this review is only about our dining experience. The dining room was spacious and light, and very pleasing, with large windows capturing some views (and Kyle Canyon traffic). I had a very good Old Fashioned from the bar. Our menus did not match those you'll see on their website, nor those in the Yelp reviews. However, there were plenty of good choices. I had the wedge salad and it was excellent; generous and fresh ingredients. My wife had the baked half chicken. Also excellently prepared. The service was very good and our waitress could not have been more helpful and friendly. While my wife was briefly absent from the table I asked our waitress if they did "birthdays." She said not really, but she could bring a scoop of ice cream to our table after the meal. I said "well, I really wanted a song" (i.e. like they do at the chain restaurants, :-)). She demurred, but didn't totally rule it out. (Yes, it was my wife's birthday.) At the end of the meal, the waitress indeed showed up with an indulgent bowl of really delicious ice cream + two spoons! Evidently her choral recruitment failed, but SHE sang happy birthday and several diners spontaneously joined in! Thereafter, we had very nice conversations with several of them.

The first floor of the restaurant was very cool! You could see the cuts of meat in the refrigerators and there is also a bar on the left of the entrance. There was a beautiful chandelier by the staircase as well. The upstairs dining area was very plain however. Bare walls, industrial type of standard light fixtures. The server recommended the skirt steak which we ordered MR. Also ordered the ribeye, portobello mushrooms fries and the steak tartare to start. I've never seen a steak tartare come out brown as it shows in the photo. I was so hungry, so I tried some, assuming the kitchen wouldn't send out bad raw meat. It tasted ok but the more I kept eating the weirder I felt about the color. We asked the manager if this was a common occurrence as my experience with steak tartare had never been this way. She said that it shouldn't come out brown and said she'd take it off the menu. She then later came back to explain that the lime juice that's in the marinade oxidizes the raw beef so that's why it's brown... which is an acceptable answer I suppose? It just felt weird bc I couldn't find any photos of browned steak tartare on google when looking up the restaurant menu. The steaks we ordered MR came out. The ribeye was cooked decently but the skirt steak was more on the rare side so we had to send it back for an oven heat up for 1 more minute. I enjoyed the skirt steak but it was too sweet to enjoy the whole thing. Cooking it in the oven for another minute made it even sweeter. It tasted like over sweetened Korean galbi in steak form. I'd say the portobello fries was my favorite dish and decided to take the rest to go to pick at in the hotel. After dinner we were given the dessert menu which didn't really call out to me, but since we told the server it was our anniversary, they gave us complimentary sorbet which was very nice. I liked the sorbet quite a lot but I was pretty full so didn't get to enjoy much of it. The gesture was kind though. At the end, the steak tartare was not taken off our receipt so we had to ask for that to be taken off since the manager told us she'd do that. The server gladly obliged. I want to say, that there was a female employee - maybe a busser, who worked really hard to be attentive with our waters and clearing our plates. I wish I got her name! I believe she was Latina with a ponytail if that helps at all working Saturday evening of Labor Day weekend at 6PM. All in all, the experience was not as great as my husband's first time at the Henderson location - he said the cuts were so much bigger before and the ambience of the Henderson location was more fine dining-esque. But the economy is tough lately so I figured the quality could've easily gone down. Because the price points were very reasonable, I thought it was up to par with what we paid. Probably won't go back unfortunately but it was great to try it out. The plaza it is in is called Trivoli(?) and I thought it was a cute spot with a lot of shops. Although everything was closed by 8, we walked around to digest a little and enjoyed the evening.
