I sat at the bar, and the bartender made a delicious suggestion for both a beer and food. As a Texan, it was odd to me to be eating a BBQ pork sandwich in Canada, but it was delicious. It paired well with my beers, and was a different BBQ taste experience than I had tasted before. The bartender, Oner, turned out to be the owner, and he made a few suggestions for other places to eat at while I was in Thunder Bay. Both were excellent selections as well! Appreciative of great hospitality, cold brews, and warm food. This quiet secluded section of the restaurant though brightly lit, has the impression of intimacy, in that the small cocktail lounge tables and the 60s-style chairs bring you and your party close together. This is not a drinking hole, but a meeting place to start an evening. There's one beer on tap (Coors Light) so don't bother. Find something of a bottled variety or cozy in with a mixed drink. Though not nearly as elegant as the King Edward cocktail lounge (http://www.yelp.ca/biz/le-meridan-king-edward---cocktail-lounge-toronto), it still puts me in mind of the place. Connected to an old-style hotel in a landmark building, I guess it's got a bit in common with its Toronto cousin. Just don't tell it that. Toronto and Thunder Bay don't get on well.

Only reason four instead of five stars is they kinda have a "I'm 19 and want to party" drinks menu, they don't really have anything you'd find on a top 20 drinks to get at a bar list. For example, no Moscow mule, martini, cosmopolitan, old fashioned, etc, almost anything you could get was either a mix with juice or one of the many cool shots they had made as a cocktail with 7up. Which is fine, however the overall atmosphere of the bar really gives the impression that they'd have most of those drinks. With that being said, if you have no issue with the menu, I would highly recommend this as a place to drink.

No refills on the drinks, however prices were also decent for the area. Overall this was a solid bar menu and it looks like it can be a good time when they have live music. My only recommendation would be to address the service and add a few more options to the menu and then we have a gem.

Prices of pieces can range from $10-$130 (from simple and tiny to large and intricate). Prices may seem a bit expensive at first (~$22-24 for a mug), but this price includes all associated costs as well (paint, firing, other supplies) and the amount of time it takes you to sit there and finish it. Overall, very reasonable. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was very inviting. Reception staff excellent. No executive lounge but was given breakfast vouchers good for their continental breakfast. The voucher could be used toward main menu items worth $13 CAD. Great food at the restaurant with attentive servers. The Sunday brunch is extensive and we were allowed to use the voucher toward it. However we were misinformed as voucher is only good for continental breakfast, not brunch. The manager made an exception due to misinformation. Kudos to the manager. Room very clean. However, housekeeping did not do a thorough job first night (trash not emptied, short on towels). Also had to call maintenance to fix TV and repair shower handle. Maintenance was very prompt and effective. The hotel just needs a little oversight on small issues like this. Hotel is located in the harbor district and footbridge gives access to downtown. Not sure I would venture there after dark. The Bright restaurant next to hotel is outstanding. Go there. Would stay there again. Keep traveling.

Everything has a charge, they'll nickel and dime you to death here. $10 starting for breakfast might get you a muffin... $25 parking but it's heated underground so I bought that for convenience instead of having to lug the luggage carrier through snow then up stairs into the front foyer ( which really they should have bellboys for that but don't) Honestly I don't know how these big chain hotels think they can drop amenities, gut guest services and charge you on top of the hefty price of a nights stay for less. I'm surprised they don't make you wash the linens when you're done. Being a member means nothing, no perks, no late checkout, unless you're a farmer and think noon is late. LESS FOR MORE pretty much sums it up. Perks? I mean if you're conference is being held here staying here means you don't have to walk across the tracks might be the only perk aside from the view but ya you've gotta pay extra for that too! lol I could go on but it's already 11pm and I've got an early late checkout so.... Book a room at the Holiday Inn Express and be treated like a king for less!
