SOV Burger, Fries, Chipotle Apple BBQ Wings
Katie A.

Stopped in Thunder Bay for a road trip across Canada. Ordered from here for a quick late meal. Ordered the SOV Burger with fries and the Chipotle Apple BBQ chicken wings. It was sooo delicious, tasted fresh, flavourful. Had it to go and it was still hot when I received it. No problems at all, thank you for the tasty food Sovereign Room!

They've set-up an outdoor patio space to accommodate social distancing measures. Servers are friendly and food is delicious. Make sure to check their hours of operation as they close certain days of the week.

I need it to be known that my previous review of the incongruities between the posted restaurant hours and the actual restaurant hours still need to be addressed. However, I've now had the opportunity to eat here twice and I'm actually quite a big fan of their "The Sov Burger" for ONE specific reason - because they let me switch out the thunder oak jalapeño gouda for gorgonzola dolce (I can't do spicy)! It's a personal preference but blue cheese melted on a juicy burger patty is just SO delicious, it makes me salivate just thinking about it. My boyfriend and I have also tried their Manhattan Strip Steak, which was also delicious because the steak was cooked perfectly to medium-rare and the accompaniment of fingerling potatoes and oyster mushrooms hit the spot, a Sov Deluxe pizza, which was just standard, and fried chicken, which tasted great and came in a fairly generous portion size. I'd come back again for the burger - that gorgonzola and beef combo is just too good to forget.

Potatoes, Brussels sprouts and Kimchi

Very limited menu. What we ordered was delicious. We shared several entrees - duck poutine, nachos & potatoes & kimchi. I also had the butternut soup. It was savory and topped with popcorn and toasted pumpkin seeds. We also had the fried cauliflower as an appetizer. It was amazing! Probably my favorite menu item. Sadly, there is almost nothing available if you are gluten free. So my husband would rate this place a 1 star. He had 3 choices - the lamb shank, pork chop with no gravy or nachos with no meat. That's it. He left hungry. My friend and I left stuffed. The portions on the poutine and kimchi are huge. Overall it was a good experience. Great service. Nice atmosphere and a large selection of beers and ciders.

This place would fit in beautifully in the Ossington hipster strip in Toronto. Kitschy cottage style decor, good beer selection and incredible food. The menu is completely un-Thunder Bay, but clearly the locals are still digging on the food. Gigantic chicken wings, thin crust pizzas with interesting toppings and of course a duck confit poutine round off the best of the gastropub menu items. Fancy salads (ie. beet w/ butternut squash) and nice sounding pasta dishes came out of the kitchen with beautiful presentation and looking more like a fine dining experience. We were a party of 5 and sampled a bunch of things. My only minor complaint was the pizza crusts were too crunchy on the outside. Nice thin crust and great toppings (balsamic fig & prosciutto!) but just a tad too crunchy. Service was good and our server was knowledgeable about the menu, Probably the coolest place in Thunder Bay

This bar was just ok. The bar tender wasn't really friendly and the beer was beer. Go here to set the tone for better bar experiences.

A great little gastropub, and though not truly family friendly they were very accommodating.

Great little place. We enjoyed a nice day trip to Thunder Bay & found this place to have good food and drinks. No kids menu though.

Caribou Restaurant & Wine Bar - Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake

The blackened pork chop was cooked to perfection - moist and juicy. I really enjoyed the apple sauce and vegetables, which paired really nicely with the pork. The Malfadine pasta was also nice. It was my first time trying rabbit - if I didn't know better, I would have believed it was chicken. It wasn't gamey in the slightest. The truffle flavour was more subtle than I expected. Though it's hard to critique the cook on either dish, I wouldn't say it was outstandingly delicious or unique. I am not necessarily eager to come back to try other things on the menu. To our surprise, the restaurant also gave us 2 desserts on the house! The cheesecake and tart were both very good and not overly sweet. Though I wish I had ordered their signature raspberry dessert instead of the lemon tart as it seems more unique. Overall, very good food and service. Would recommend for a special occasion.

Saturday night heading into Caribou after a long day of hiking and exploring Thunder Bay…read more The restaurant was a bit of distance from all the hotspots downtown and we were a little concerned with the location. Once we stepped in, we were warmly greeted with a lively dining room, and were quite surprised with the diversity and uniqueness of the menu. We started with Canadian old-fashions, and crab cakes. For dinner had their bus 16 oz steak special which was very nicely done, and the rabbi pasta. We Wish we had more room to try the pizzas because they looked great. We Finished it off with the peanut butter cheesecake. The waitress was charming and very helpful with making our decisions, even though she was supporting a very busy room. A real gem for thunder Bay, great place and great value. It's well worth the five minute drive away from the touristy downtown choices.

We asked for a table near the window, so we could look out and enjoy the view of the bay but it needed to be cleared. The waitress seamed irritated by this and told us to go sit in the lobby and wait until it was clear. A second waitress came to seat us was not as grumpy but still seamed a bit off. We ordered a burger and a salad, basic items. The burger was overcooked, we asked for a salad with mixed green garden lettuce, but it was served with just Romain lettuce, And finally, we found a hair in the salad. They took 20% off the bill but it was still gross. I heard the table behind us behind us complaining about their food as well and they got 20% knocked off their bill for something that went wrong. We were definitely disappointed with the high prices that this restaurant charges and the quality of food we were presented with With so many incredible restaurants within walking distance, being in this high-end neighborhood and associated with the Marriott hotels, this restaurant is way off brand.

Great space as well. They have a BBQ theme for the meats and this results in some of the best chicken wings I have ever had. And I am well travelled. The menu is reasonably priced which is a pleasant surprise. Besides one cranky server the service from the staff has been great.
