I really enjoyed my experience here. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a friendly staff member. I asked about his recommendations based on my wanting something fruity and sweet. He recommended Taro (said to taste kind of like fruity pebbles) and then recommended strawberry/watermelon. It was delicious and I will definitely be back to try more things. First timer. Not from the area but I've tried other Bigstraw Boba branches around Oxnard and this branch was fairly the same. FOOD: Nothing extraordinary. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee in slushy/blended form which they don't do but was willing to accommodate. I liked how they recommended not to do because it can water down the taste of the drink but I still went on to try it lol (I should have listened though lol). Nevertheless, it was still a decent drink just lost the concentrated taste of the coffee. Also, ordered taro and it was good. Not too sweet and not too watered down. Just right. They have plenty of choices and combinations of toppings. SERVICE: I had no issues with the service. My drinks came out quick, I was the only customer at that time though. The server was attentive to my order and was more than willing to fulfill my order although she advised not to lol. I did appreciate the honesty though. AMBIANCE: No tables indoors but have a good amount of tables on a makeshift outside patio. They created these stair/step - like seats against the wall for more seating and hang out spot with friends while waiting for their drinks. They also have a instagrammable back drop on one of the walls for a photo op. Super cute! Perfect for little K-pop cup sleeve events. Spacious and clean. Overall, cute little boba spot. Craved boba and this place popped up after a little errand run. First time so I asked the cashier what was recommended, to no surprise - he said the Thai tea. So ordered that and a cookies and cream boba and the Thai tea tasted like ... Thai tea. Nothing special but it was good. My brother didn't like the cookies and cream until the end and I liked the thai tea until the end ... there were so many ice chips and the bottom it was hard to get to the boba. I did however like the phot walls and the way the inside was set up , nice place for a quick shot. I'll go again if I'm the area. Next day update as I was in the area...14 May I ordered the dragonfruit black tea & it's a no for me. Idk what this ice chip business is but it doesn't belong with boba. 5 stars for the service and decor at this Bigstraw Boba. Probably about a 3.5 for the consistency of the boba. I think this equals my review out for a solid 4 stars. We stopped into this shop for a quick boba and some bobas to take on the go for friends. I was super excited about the interior of this shop as it's really cute. Fake grass seats and greenery throughout the shop, it definitely gave cute trendy Instagram vibes. The menu here is impressive with plenty of options in smoothies and boba flavors. They also sell stickers for your hydroflasks which was a plus. I found the service to be awesome the day we came. I know some other reviewers had a different experience but the gals working behind the counter the day we came were super friendly and on it! They cranked out drinks and were helpful. 5/5 for our service experience. The reason I wouldn't run back to this boba shop was simply the inconsistency of the boba balls. I have a texture thing with boba and if any of the balls are a little dry or hard I lose it lol. That was the case here, half of the bobas were fresh and the right texture while the other half had the dryness in the middle that I struggled. Too bad as the flavor of the drinks itself were good. Maybe I caught them on an off day and someone wasn't on top of the tapioca balls but I'd give them another try when I'm in the area. This place is honestly so cute! Near the back is a cool fish tank with iridescent residents, and a fake grass covered bench that gives it in inside-outside kind of feel. Service was prompt and there was no line. I ordered a a weird flavor mixture because I had two ideas at the same time that ended up clashing, but the taro shake was sweet and creamy, and the popping boba was bursting with strawberry flavor. I was in on 9/16/2024. I ordered a blended jasmine tea, 1/2 sugar, oat milk, with Boba. That's my usual order whenever I get Boba. The young woman repeated it back to me and I said correct. When I paid I noticed an extra $1 and figured it was for the oat milk. I drank 1/2 of it on my way home and immediately became sick. Fortunately I made it home before the results occurred for someone who is lactose intolerant. Needless to say I was doubled over in pain for hours and missed the next day of work. I called the store the same day and the person who took my order answered. I asked her to repeat my order back to me. She looked it up and repeated everything except the oat milk. I specifically ordered oat milk and her response was, "I guess I didn't hear you or forgot". I told her it made me terribly sick. I asked if I didn't get oat milk what was the extra $1 for and she said it was to blend the drink. WHAT - you actually charge extra for blending? She told me she would refund my order and a free one would be there for me when I come in again. There has never been a refund on my card. I have left 2 messages for the owner and no response. I would like to be compensated for missing a days work, terrible customer service, and sickness from not getting my order as agreed. Just because actual milk is not added in and it comes as a powder form doesn't mean it doesn't have milk. I want tea, not milky jasmine tea. The first time I tried their drink was when my coworker and I were bored and in the mood for some good boba. I opted for the POG (passion, orange and guava smoothie blend) because I absolutely love fruity and tart flavors. I also asked for 50% sweetness. When I tried the drink, I knew the level of tartness was exactly what I was looking for, however I found the drink to be a bit too sweet for my own liking. I then realized that I could have requested 0% sweetness and the drink could have still been sweet--that is just their own added homemade syrup. I liked the quality of the boba so I knew I'd have to visit again soon. The next time I was in town, I was in the mood for some coffee and boba, so I visited Big Straw and the gentleman recommended their specialty coffee drink. They even offer Vietnamese coffee but I wasn't ready for that that particular day. This time, I asked for no added sweetness and it was the perfect hint of sweetness for me. I loved the boba again. I highly recommend this spot if you're in the area. There's also another location in Oxnard. I'm very curious to try the Vietnamese coffee and mango chamoy smoothie next time...with boba, of course. First timer to Bigstraw Boba and it was a treat!!! Bigstraw Boba is located off of Victoria and Telephone in the Von's shopping Center. Limited parking available and some sketchy characters running around outside so... You walk in and see the peaceful environment and walk out "feelin' fresh" because the decor is just so relaxing. Love love love the theme. When I walked in I asked a few questions and looked through the menu. To be honest, I've only had boba one other time so I wasn't too familiar with all of the variations but the staff helped me through the process and were very patient! TOP NOTCH CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Ended up choosing the iced coffee boba and it's was delicious. I really wanted to like this place because there is no other decent boba spots in the area but my first experience experience was and my second was even worse. I got a small mango and lychee smoothie and also a large taro and coconut smoothie. They tasted okay. The mango overpowered the lychee flavor. I forgot I was supposed to even have lychee. Very cute spot with friendly and efficient staff. The rating is based solely on the products. We stopped by this boba place on the way home. I was so excited as I love boba! That's where the excitement ends; I was so disappointed. It was not good. I got a traditional milk tea with boba, very simple. The tea was very bad. It had honey crystals throughout which made it grainy and overly sweet. Additionally, there was limited boba in the drink and the straw wasn't big enough so the boba constantly got stuck. We also did a bit of reading on the walls which details the history of the shop and discovered it was a family-owned business! I got a mango green tea with lychee jelly. It was super refreshing but super sweet. I like sweet drinks but found this to be a bit too much. I would recommend reducing the sweetness to around 50% if you prefer lesser sweeter drinks.
