They have sparkling and still wines and fun stories to go with some of them. Both are awesome and while I tend to go with the bubbles, I am quite pleased to go for the stills like the mouvedre. I contacted Gene several weeks in advance of our trip and he managed to address all of our varied interests. Specifically, we were interested in learning more about the winemaking process, biodynamic wineries, and tasting bold reds and some sparkling wine. Gene put together the following schedule for us, and we could not be more thrilled. Stonestreet Winery - Pretty good, but pricey, Cabernet Sauvignon. Too bad because the tasting room staff were really knowledgeable and friendly. Lancaster Estate - Our favorite! Here Gene scheduled a private tour of the estate and wine cave (where the barrels are stored). They only make four wines (sauvignon blanc, a cuvee, a cab, and a signature bordeaux blend), all of which are absolutely impeccable. We even considered joining the wine club, but the waiting list was too long for my patience. Robert Young Estate - Good scion; also known for their chardonnay but I personally found it too buttery. Tasting room staff was kinda tipsy too... Truett Hurst - A biodynamic winery specializing in zinfandel. I especially love their 2006 Red Rooster zin, which is really spicy and unusual (think cloves and cardamom). Montemaggiore - A small (10 acre), organic, estate winery owned by a family that's recently entered the winemaking trade. Gene scheduled an hour-long private chat with the owner/winemaker, and it was a phenomenal educational experience! Highly recommended. This was our first stop and it was an amazing winery- only open for reservations only (no walk-ins). We arrived a few minutes before our tasting and were warmly greeted by the host staff and shown to our table, overlooking the beautiful Russian River hillside area. The views from the winery are absolutely outstanding. We learned from our host that the owners of the Gary Farrell Winery don't own any of the vineyards, they only procure the grapes and they're the wine maker. The wines were all drastically different and some of the best Chardonnay's we have had on any of our tastings we have done in Napa. The host was so knowledgable and very warm and friendly. We went away with a new found appreciation of their winery and purchased a bottle of wine to take home with us for a Christmas gift. Gary Farrell is truly an amazing winery and I highly recommend trying it if you're in the area! We look forward to returning!

Based on this, we hired Jonathan to drive me and my family for three days last week. Jonathan was great again! He's most familiar with the Sonoma side of wine country (and he's very honest about that), but he was also helpful and knowledgeable during our days in Yountville and Calistoga/St Helena. He pays great attention to the group and schedule... If you're really enjoying a particular place, he'll help rearrange the schedule to allow for more time, and not rush you off to the next place. He went above and beyond to rework our schedule, allowing us time to enjoy our favorite places.
