Don't waste time or money. Horrible service. Linda could be less interested if you didn't buy an overpriced bike from them. I phoned ahead just to see if they could install a baby seat which they said yes. When I got there Linda did not acknowledge me, continued with a personal phone call, and then looked at my bell baby seat and bike with utter disgust. Brands in Wantagh explained why Linda looked at my bike like that and it was because my fender was to big for the baby seat. Thank you brands, to bad Junkies. Decent selection of bikes and accessories but can't ever get a straightforward price quote on any repairs. Asked for the price for a tune-up, they gave a wide range ($60-$100) which I accepted but recently I called again and asked for a quote for a simple shifter cable replacement, at first a woman tells me "probably around $15" then forwards to a guy with what sounded like a Russian accent who goes on to tell me cable cost about $2/foot and the work could take hours to do depending on...yadda yadda yadda. He finally tells me labor alone is $30 so I ask if $50 should cover labor and parts and he says maybe. I called the next nearby bike shop, they quoted $30, then another one in Amityville that said $20 without giving me the run around or long stories. I'd strongly suggest to come up with a price list like many other bike shops do. read more

Awesome place! Came to Long Island for the weekend from West Virginia. Not knowing a good place to ride, we went to Bike Junkie trying to get some info on routes. Lady was very, very helpful to us out-of-towners! Not the typical, "Why are you here?" attitude you get from some shops. Not enough great things to say about this Local Bike Shop. They are super fast, reliable and fair. I had many complicated requests and they were readily available to discuss and accommodate different options for my bike. This bike shop has higher end stuff at fair prices, go here before you buy anything online. I was shocked at how reasonable the prices are. And you can't put a price on legit bike advice right? My 6yr old daughter's princess bike had dinges in the front. I asked someone if they could help me. I was told I would have to use a hammer. She could tell the disappointment in my face so she offered to have one of her guys do it. They took care of it and within 15min my daughter's bike was restored. She even went so far as to dismantle her window display so that I could test ride the bike displayed there! If you live in Nassau county. This is by far the best bike shop there is. It's a smaller place physically, but they stock a large range of products including some very high end items. When you're there, you deal directly with the owner couple, Doug and Linda. They are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and willing to help. You may have to wait your turn, but you'll get 100% personal attention when you're helped by one of them. I absolutely agree with Andrew that you truly get a sense that these people really like riding bikes and wants you to enjoy and improve in riding yours rather than just servicing a paying customer. In my experience, they will usually beat or try their very hardest to beat any price, a lot of times, even if you don't know better to ask. I strolled into Bike Junkie two months ago (after seeing the yelp reviews), looking to buy my first mountain bike. This would be my first bike purchase since 1983 so I was a newbie. Linda gave me a "mountain biking 101" tutorial and Doug shared his personal experiences with bike brands which helped me narrow down my choices. Once my bike arrived, Doug spent a great deal of time making sure I had the perfect fit. Linda went out of the way to research and find a helmet that would fit my huge noggin and found the essential gear I would need on the trails. Every time I stop by their shop Doug and Linda always make time for me no matter how busy they are. Doug and Linda are a great team and more importantly, great people. They truly want happy customers and judging from the constant foot traffic into their shop, it's working. They never pressure you in any way and offer practical advice on everything. I've been back numerous times for adjustments, advice and gear. Oh, and their prices are extremely competitive. They have many loyal customers - I keep seeing familiar faces in the shop whenever I'm here. They are a happy crowd and there's a great vibe going on. You just want to hang out, chat and buy stuff. Started going there last year when a buddy of mine went there to have a custom wheel built by Dougie. After i went there one time, i was addicted to the place. I started going there just for simple advice or getting small little things i needed. Now its my go-to shop when i need anything. I refuse to go anywhere else. I wont go anywhere else. Doug and Linda are the sh**. Probably the coolest riders i know, down to earth and they want to help you. They enjoy passing their knowledge and experiences onto their customers such as myself. And they wont let you leave there unless you are completely happy when your purchase. I just recently bought a wheel set there and they made sure i was more than happy with my purchase. I found out about this shop a few years ago while shopping for a new frame. I ended up buying a Lynskey and Doug put it together for me. If you don't see what you need Linda can order it for you and in most cases get it the next day. The prices are great and the owners truly enjoy what they do. Great little shop. They carry all of the essentials you need for riding. Prices on bikes and accessories are also very competitive. Doug and Linda are very helpful, friendly and most importantly, informative. Service and repair is top notch. Best I have ever seen. Doug really knows what he is doing. Hours are a little strange. Saturday closing at 6pm seems a little early and being closed on sunday is an inconvenience for me as I do a lot of my shopping on sundays. Best bike shop in the Northeast. I switched from running to biking a few years ago and visited as many stores as I could to educate myself and find the right deal. Incidentally, my orginal plan was to find and test drive a good bike in a store, then buy it for the best price online. Turned out to be unnecessary when I found Bike Junkie. Doug and Linda are experts in their field, and will spend as much time educating you as you are willing to spend in the store. I've spent HOURS there! As for prices, i directly researched both bikes and accessories against the best online deals. Bottom line-i got my Cannondale CAAD 10 for cheaper than I found it online, and assembled and ready to ride it out of the store. As for accessories, here and there you'll find an online deal for a few dollars cheaper, but weigh that against the fact that they'll install (correctly) anything you buy there for free. So, if it's a helmet, no big deal, but personally, I'd rather them install a bike computer or new gear set. The time you save will more than pay the few extra dollars here or there. Plus, you're supporting a local business who is part of the community. Anyone who bikes in the area knows Doug and Linda. Read the other bike store reviews....nobody else is as much a part of their business as these two friendly people. Bottom line: If you think these types of bikes are expensive, do your homework....they are! Comparably, Bike Junkie has the best prices around. Go to a bunch of shops and this will be immediately apparent. Some stores specialize in Cannondale, some Trek, some Specialized, etc. Bike Junkie doesn't have every single bike brand, so call before you go if you're looking for a specific brand. If 1000+ is too steep for you, go to Walmart and get a $300 bike from China (nothing against Walmart but you're not going to ride those bikes thousands of miles and at speeds of 20+ mph without them falling apart) When you're pushing 20mph or almost 30mph on downhill stretches, your bike is your lifeline. If I take a spill at those high speeds, I want it to be because I failed, not my bike. I prefer to trust the technicians tweaking my gears and tightening my bolts, not to mention the welds and construction by a top notch brand. The adage proves true: if you want a BMW, go to a BMW dealership....if you want a Hyundai, go to a Hyundai dealership. I moved out of Nassau (like most other people whose situation allows them to escape this county) and I stop at Bike Junkie every trip back to NY. I also still ride with a Bike Junkie jersey for all my rides. Most of the reviews on here are dead on and as you read all of them, you should notice a common theme: great prices, friendly service, knowledgeable, and fair. As for the outliers, one has to question calling these bikes expensive, then dropping 350 on a bike rack...hmmmm. read more

I originally had planned on buying a bike online, but eventually decided I didn't know enough about them and their assembly to undertake it. I started looking for a local shop and came across the reviews for Bike Junkie. Since they were all so positive I decided to head over and check them out. I was greeted by Doug as soon as I entered. I told him my needs, and after asking me a few questions he made a few recommendations and showed me a few bikes. What he said next totally blew me away. Rather than try to sway me to make a purchase today he suggested that I come back several times and "borrow" a different bike each time for 30 minutes or so to help me decide what I liked best! I could not believe that he was actually offering me to take his inventory out of the store, multiple times! Unfortunately for me, I waited until the last minute to decide I was going to buy a bike and only have a few days to spend my annual allowance that my company provides as a "health" benefit, so I had to buy now. He set up the bike that I decided I liked the best and sent me out on a test ride. I really liked it, so I decided to buy. Since they didn't have it in my "size" in stock (I never knew there were sizes) he said he would order it for me and I could pay today to satisfy my needs. To continue his awesome service, he called the distributor to make sure they pulled the one left for me, only to find out it is the 2014 model and the 2013 are no longer available. The 2014 model is $50 more, which I was prepared to pay, but he gave me the 2013 price without having to ask. Doug was extremely knowledgeable and explained things to me in 20 minutes that I never knew about bicycles, and I knew immediately I could trust him. I hadn't ridden in over 20 years and was anxious to prove that I could get right back into it. I was previously an avid road bike rider. I had sold my car and the bike would be my only form of transportation. Linda and Doug helped me find "the perfect" bike; a Cannondale Quick CX1. They ordered it for me (took no cash advance) and when it came, they had me try it out. My seatpost needed to be cut (I am very short) and they took it downstairs immediately. They helped outfit my bike with only the minimal things it needed and I knew for sure that they really cared about my needs. I can't tell you how wonderful this place is! As an inexperienced rider, I didn't know what kind of bike I wanted, much less what I needed, and Doug helped me all the way through. I didn't feel like he was just selling me a bike, I really think he cared about finding one that will suit my needs. He is very patient, kind, knowledgeable and friendly, and although I didn't work with Linda, she seemed that way with customers, too. Doug asked me where I planned on riding, broke down how the bike works and all its parts, let me test drive 3 bikes and customized it for me. I could not be happier! The bike has a year-long warranty and after logging 12-15 hours of riding, they want me to bring it back to the store so they can ensure it's working well. I didn't buy the bike there, but everytime I brought it in, they talked to me, and fixed it, no charge. Nicest people ever. i signed up for my first sprint tri a few months ago, running and swimming -no problem, biking-hadn't done in 30 years! on the recommendation of a friend i made my way to bike junkie (after a stop at a large bike store in the neighborhood-which was very unsatisfactory because the kid working in the store-although very polite didn't know enough about bikes, tris or nervous bike riders!) anyway, linda took the time to really listen to what i was looking for in a bike, since it had been so long since i had been on a bike i was really nervous about falling, using hand brakes etc. she never made me feel embarrassed and took my concerns seriously. she helped me find a bike that was perfect for my needs, even changing out the tires so i would have wider ones that made me feel more secure. linda had me take the bike out for a ride to be sure i was comfortable on it before i made my decision. she was so knowledgeable about all of the bikes in the store and her advice was right on target, i am very happy with my new bike. she even had me bring the bike in before my tri to be sure the tires were inflated properly to avoid any newbie problems during the race! bike junkie is a small store and you may have to wait for service if someone is there before you but when it is your turn you really will get knowledgeable, personalized attention from people who are passionate about biking . read more
