I just lost the detailed post I wrote so I'm rewriting this consolidated. I brought my new e- bike in for a back flat tire. I lent the bike after riding it only twice to a friend who wrecked it into a curb. The diagnosis was a pinched tube or a "snake bite." Labor and tube was $65 and she paid for the damage. After minimal use about a week later the tire went flat again and I brought the bike back a week after I noticed this. I was happy Trek gave it back to me for free. I'm not sure what was done but I didn't ask. BOTH times I had mentioned that I thought the rim might be slightly bent. Now the same tire is flat again. The bike has been sitting for a month if not mare and I had two friends who know about bikes to look at the rim. I'm not off roading, hitting potholes, putting more then 95 lbs on it, or hitting curbs so I don't understand why this bike is useless to me. Both people said they thought it was bent. I spent the money and bought it new because I had just lost my car and am saving for another one. Spending money on a new bike at all is frustrating but my friend paid for the damage she caused, Trek bikes didn't charge me the second time I brought it in, but now I need to, yet again, find a ride there and back and there and back to figure out the problem. Thank goodness I had been checking the tire before riding it so my rim isn't any more warped then the first time and I wasn't on the bike when it went flat. The speed that it goes that would possibly be a serious injury. At this point I'd rather skip the labor costs if I have to come back every two weeks and order a tubeless tire on Amazon and install it myself but that, I fear, would be another waste of time if it is the rim. Even if the rim isn't the causation of these flats I wanted my new bike looking like it did before she wrecked it. I don't know why my comments before about the rim were ignored. If it is the tube again I would suggest to them to not use cheap tubes. I know I should've been more persistent about making sure this was done but honestly I was trusting the professionals knew what they were doing and so glad to get my only transportation back the first time and to not have to pay again the second time I just thought if it was a issue they would've told me. It is a issue. When now I flip the bike upside down and remove the tire it is totally consistent with hitting a curb. I can't after this amount of time has past and charge my friend whatever this cost will be. How does she know my e bike has been gathering dust and not being taken off roading? I know though. What I had suspicions of the first time was true and not addressed by Trek Bikes. I now just want to sell it because I call it my useless, cursed bike. It was bad enough losing my vehicle and now this. I will keep the public posted on how this all turns out. Monday I will speak with Trek Bikes in Alamo Heights and see how they handle the situation. I was going to wait until that happened to post this but the frustration of seeing this bent rim stands on its own even if that isn't the cause of the flats. I only told the shop verbally my suspicions so I encourage everyone out there to have in writing thru email or text everything that was said and done so it doesn't become a he said she said. I'm giving one star for the speed of service and one star for the cleanliness of the shop and the employees were nice. I don't know if the ball was dropped communicating what I said to service but service should've seen the damage. I will change the rating depending on the outcome Tks! read more

Tim Tilton from Bike World is the best! I recently purchased a Peloton bike because I need to start moving my body and since COVID-19 I don't feel comfortable going to studios or gyms. Anyhow! I didn't purchase Peloton's bike shoes because I had read a bunch of negative reviews online and I wanted to get an expert's opinion as to which shoes and cleats to buy for my new bike.... that is why I decided to check out Bike World. As soon as we walked in Tim was the first one to welcome us to the store. We told him about our Peloton situation and he quickly started to not only show us a few shoe options, but also educating us about the difference between each one of them and what they are used for. I really appreciate him taking the time to educate my husband and I about our purchase, since we are new to this sport. Long story short! We ended up getting the bike shoes and cleats Tim recommended. He also helped us with cleat alignment and made sure both of our sure were right for us so we don't get injured. Everyone just wants your money here they're always trying to make you spend crazy money they recommended a $100 bike lock just to go to heb or work and they're only nice to you when you buy a lot I had to upgrade my bike and the service just rised up by 4 stars and the only nice people were there temporarily I'd say go or San Pedro they had 3 workers 2 were gravel bikers or road and 1 was a mountain biker read more

I've no other recourse except this. Long story short, we paid them almost $400 to have the bike fixed. They didn't fix it properly. My guy did get highly upset and "fired" as a customer. In fairness, I'm disclosing that. But, Jessica ruined his bike and they aren't standing behind their repair. Edited to add he had to go back 4 times before he got rude. And NO solutions were offered. Just excuses. I'll be reporting to BBB as well. Pity they won't even guarantee the repair work they did. read more

Fantastic experience at the main location. My wife and I were having coffee (at Local Coffee) and there's an entrance to Bike World. We checked it out just to get an idea of pricing and styles. Met C.P. and he was very enthusiastic to understand what we were looking for and make sure we weren't getting in over our heads. We went on a bike ride and checked out 3 different styles before choosing what we wanted. The whole experience was fun and zero-pressure. C.P. ensured we had the proper accessory to secure the bike to the bike carrier (truck hitch) and loaded us up personally. Only reason I didn't put 5-star is because the men's bike we wanted wasn't in stock. It was available at the SE Military location, but there is no will-call purchasing set up. My go to place for anything related to my bike! I dropped it off the day before yesterday for a tuneup and they did an amazing job! My bike now looks absolutely brand new and they answered all of my questions. They were able to get off all of the cobwebs, gunk and everything else that was nasty on there from having it in the garage for the past year. They have a decent selection of bikes, a poor selection of parts. Their prices are sky high on accessories and equipment, and I really don't appreciate the high-pressure sales tactics. It's hard to shake a salesman once you start looking at the bikes. They follow you around like you're about to steal something. Their repairs are sufficient, but over priced. It's good that they have a community events board to keep you informed of upcoming races and rides. read more

Once again these guys/gals continue to amaze me!! Went to the location at 5911 Broadway for two reasons. 1. Because a great bike mechanic we know by the name of Ian works there. 2. Because this location had exactly what I was looking for; and the gentleman I spoke with yesterday was very helpful and patient over the phone. (These factors evolved into a great purchase today!) As soon as we walked in today (unbeknownst to Ian)...he greeted us and made us feel like we were at home. Then we found out that the price had been reduced on the item I asked about yesterday! So, it was on from here! Ian helped with a stellar tubeless set up on the new bike, and the shop generously helped make our experience with other things of interest...just awesome. Staffed by some of the most caring, truly caring, fine folks of any LBS I've worked with; Bike World may not be the best shop to purchase a bike from depending on your needs, but the guys behind the counter are certainly who you want working on your two wheeled toys. Accessories and clothing are limited to Bontranger and a small selection of non-Trek branded wares but I've never been at a loss for staples here. If you need something basic or are looking for a tune, fit, or general guidance then you need to put Bike World (this specific location in Alamo Heights) at the top of your list. read more

I purchased a bike pump and stationary stand the day of the lockdown .. I had been advised that the shop would be closed thereafter but I could return the items once the lockdown was lifted. I purchased the stationary kit and pump for the safety of myself and family .. the pump broke and when I went to return it when the lockdown lifted I was told that the 30 day time limit had expired .. I believe this was very poor customer service on thier part due to the extenuating circumstances. I spent over 400 dollars and they would not refund my 30 dollars for a bike pump that I had to replace and purchase online thru Amazon. I would definitely not recommend the shop or be returning as a customer. read more

Took my bike in that I bought elsewhere and had some problems on the trails with. They diagnosed the problem super fast and at no charge! After moving to Southtown/King William & living right across from the mission trail, we decided to get bikes. My girlfriend & I were looking for something that we could ride to dinner and for exercise on the trail. We went to the Alamo Heights bike world with a little bit of Internet based research and pretty much no idea what to look for. On our first visit a very helpful employee suggested Trek exercise bikes to us & let us try them out. There was no pressure to buy on site or any up selling. We told the employee who helped us that we needed some time to think & he suggested we take our time & mentioned that when we return we can have any employee help us as they are not commission based. We spent a week or so shopping around & decided to return to bike world solely based on their customer service. I called in & spoke with an employee named Tom who said he would have the model of bike we were interested in ready for us in different frame sizes when we were coming in the following day. Upon our return. Tom fitted my girlfriend & I to the models we liked. He also let us try the bikes on the road again to make sure the adjustments & size of bikes worked for us. He also sold us the accessories we requested and at the right grade/price point to meet our needs. Bike world will also deliver our bikes to us later next week (they had to bring in the color my girlfriend wanted) at their S Alamo location which is closer for us to ride home. Overall this is as good a sales experience for two people who are new to bicycling. We received a wealth of information. No pressure and above all we got exactly what would suit our needs. It may be the case that we might have saved some money elsewhere or over the Internet. However, based upon the help we needed, I am certain we made the right choice. For example I thought I needed to be on a frame size two sizes smaller than that which fit me. Also, keep in mind that we were on the lower end of the price point of the bikes they stock & feel like we received good direction/service regardless of how much we were spending. Bike World is FANTASTIC. We were traveling across Texas on a Sunday when my wife's bike came loose and fell over on bike rack and was dragging on the road. We found the Bike World store on Military Avenue in the afternoon and stopped in. They looked the bike over and found that the handle bars and all controls and brakes were damaged and had to be replaced. As we were traveling to Arizona they said they would get on the bike that day and in between their scheduled appointments and get us back on the road ASAP. They also told us that the area we were camping in during the repairs was having a ton of bike thefts so they offered to also keep my bike there in a secure building. Wonderful helping us out. Tuesday afternoon we got a phone call and e-mail from them that the bike was done. We arranged to pick them up Wednesday morning on our way out of town. Eric Butcher was great and even contacted our dealer in Wisconsin as we lost our 'plug cover' for the battery and they told him to have us stop in when we got home in April and they would give us a replacement. He went above and beyond the call of duty. We highly recommend Bike World, and especially Eric, for all your biking needs. We know that if we lived in that area or are in the area again and need anything we would stop at their store. They bent over backwards to accomodate our needs. They went out of their way to help us and were so friendly. They even told us of places of interest in the area. They also helped us find a campground close to their location. My husband and I first went here and initially received good service. One of their gals (I think Kathy was her name) was extremely helpful and set us up well. We actually found a bike that we liked but it wasn't in stock so we decided to go look around and think on it. Up until this point, we were pretty excited about this store. I like the atmosphere and the coffee shop next door. Also, it was fairly empty and we received good customer service. Then my husband tried to contact them via the phone.... He asked them the simple question of "have you gotten the bike back in stock?" The guys who answered said he didn't know. When my husband asked him when he would be able to find out, the guy responded next monday (it was Friday). My husband then informed him that he wanted to buy the bike and that it would be a guaranteed sale. He didn't get any response from this guy and my husband was never called back. It was frustrating but we've given up. I hope the manager is able to talk to their people about phone sales. They lost out on over $1000 worth of sales all because their people never called back. read more

I recently visited Bike World Alamo Heights for custom fittings for both my road and mountain bikes with Tim. I was blown away by the detail and precision Tim employed during my custom fittings. Not only are my bikes 100% better and more fun to ride, I have virtually no pain anymore while riding. Tim is a consummate professional and he knows everything about bikes. Now I'm riding more, faster, and farther. Went in to buy a bike rack for my car. 2 hours later, after learning enough about bikes to sell them, I left with my bike rack. It was a close thing, though. I briefly considered buying a $1200 road bike. At the time, the fact that I've only put 9 miles on my current hybrid bike seemed unimportant. Carbon fiber frames and electronic derailleurs seemed more important than making my car payment. I'm convinced Dave is a genetically-engineered being who was created for the sole purpose of selling bicycles. I will be going back, and I would have given them five stars if not for the unfortunately unavoidable problem of price that all small businesses struggle with. Make sure you check the terms of each item. Some are no returns in used condition. This shop has a reputation for how rude they are and man do they live-it-up. I hear the Bike World on 1604 is great, so at least they are bringing in business there. Sad thing is, I fear the rudeness of this shop affects the connected coffee shop's business too. Who wants to visit a bike store that is unapproachable? Yes, I've contacted the store manager and got a giftcard and free fit. I have yet to use the free fit because when I went in to collect my giftcard, they were just as sour. Then I wasted it on a pair of gloves that ended up not fitting and they would not take back.
