There is a ton of organic, plant based, and healthy foods here. Expiration dates vary but most are pretty good, like a month or two +. I've found fresh fruits, vegetables, diaya cheesecake, oat milk ice cream, diaya pizza, nut milks, etc. a whole gallon of bit milk is about $3-4 and the pizza was just $3-4. Wow! Just wow. The real advantage of this Acme is its proximity to a large ShopRite, so if you can't find what you want here you could easily find it there. There are also a large Aldis, Sprouts, CVS, Walgreens, and Fine Wines all in the same complex more or less. So very convenient plus southbound traffic from Center City is particularly speedy. Getting here is as quick as going to the Riverwalk Giant for me, due to traffic, from the same Graduate location; for example. Not sure it is worth the trip instead of the (very urban) Fresh Grocer on Grays Ferry.

When I walked in, immediately noticed a little box of gloves and a sign asking customers to wear them while shopping. As I reached for a pair, one of the people working behind the counter began to ask me to put on the gloves. Mid sentence, she realized that I am an A+ student and always follow directions. I took a look around I noticed a bunch of fresh produce close to the entrance. Along the right side were some refrigerators and freezers with a few items such as meat, cheese, ice cream, vegetables and some vegan items. I'm assuming they must've just had the lunch rush since there was only one vegan wrap and 2 or 3 pudding like desserts in there. On the sides of the refrigerators were some shelf stable items. Chips, bread, pastas, spices, nut butter and stuff like that. By the register they had a couple of fresh pastries, baked goods and then a few of your typical register type things like protein bars and candy. The place is actually a bit smaller than I would've thought based on the outside. They also have a lot less items than I thought they would, though that could be due to short supply with all the pandemic stuff going on. Since I didn't actually need anything and just came by to check out the place, I didn't wanna be rude so I bought a few things. A couple of bananas for the kiddo, some gluten free pasta and garlic for me and a couple of pastries for the Mrs. The only thing that would make this store even better is some organic items/produce and better gluten free options. They had a few good gf pastas, but the bread company they use is dry and literally tastes like cardboard. There's an amazing gf bakery (taffets) in the Italian market that would be a great addition to this place. You see on Tuesdays, Rowhouse bakes Pulla - the wonderful bread pastry from Finland. If you are like me, you will want to get your fix of Pulla because I only seem to get to Helsinki every few years and though I always have some Pulla to take with me when I leave Finland, it's gone in a couple of days. This cardamom infused sweet bread goes naturally with coffee or tea ... but as a Finnish friend in Vienna taught me, you can also make a tasty sandwich with it. AND some frozen Indian options, among many others. Fresh looking fruit and vegetables, nice displays, and even extras like a pet aisle. That saved me from an early amazon order of kibble. I live how tiny the food is for my poor senior mini Dachshund. It's a shame this place is in a ratty shopping center. We quite liked it. For a mere $55, we got milk, strawberries, crumbl cereal, Mission tortilla chips, Smuckers pb and honey "saucers," Indian and Stouffer's frozen foods, and dog food! As he scanned my items, he threw them down the belt and into my cart instead of placing them there with care. It wasn't an accident or a one-time slip--it happened throughout the entire transaction. I was genuinely shocked by how my groceries were being treated. After checking out, I spoke with a manager to report what happened. The only response I received was that he would "talk to the employee." Considering how disrespectful the interaction was, that didn't feel like an adequate response. What made this even more concerning was what I observed afterward. I stayed and watched the same cashier ring up the customers behind me, who happened to be white. He carefully scanned their groceries and gently placed each item in their cart. The difference in treatment was obvious to me. The stark contrast in how I was treated compared with the customers behind me, the experience left me feeling that race may have played a role. Whether intentional or not, I walked away feeling disrespected, humiliated, and unwelcome. Every customer deserves to be treated with the same courtesy and respect.
