NOT WORTH THE HYPE. Save yourself some dollars. Ugh! I was so so excited to try this historic spot! First it's in my neighborhood walking distance and second, 90 years of history! BUT was unfortunately disappointed. It must have been an off day for them but my chicken cheesesteak hoagies had no cheese despite my ordering them with cheese. So sad! Funny because the folks preparing them even wrote on a hoagie wrapper what cheese each came with. But when we started eating the meat was DRY and flavorless. No salt either. I opened my sandwich flat and searched for cheese but couldn't find. For three cheesesteak hoagies (two of which were missing cheese) & average mozzarella sticks 6 pieces it was almost 52 bucks! Go figure...... What an unfortunate experience. There's nothing close to iconic, historic, or special about this place.

Ambiance: (4/5) It like an average deli. No seating. Price: (4/5) Average for the area. Food: (3.5/5) I enjoyed the cheesesteak, but I thought the meat lacked flavor and was a bit more dry than others I have tried. Service: (5/5) You can order ahead which is great. Food was still very hot when I got to it.

Heard about this S.philly gem and had to check it out. I've been there 3 times so far and will absolutely keep coming back. Inside is small with no seating but you're just in there to order or pick up. The staff is friendly and will help you out. I've gotten their Big dom cutlet, big dom cugine, and also got an S. Philadelphia Italian hoagie there and ate it the next day and it was just as delicious. My favorite go to hoagie spot in the city

Our sandwiches were absolutely excellent just the right amount of everything lots of meat all cooked perfectly and just the right amount of juice not too much but very delicious. Staff friendly service was fast. I highly recommend you take the drive and enjoy every bite.!!!!

Good spot for a hoagie!!! The portion is huge and toppings very generous!! Wished they had an eating area inside or outside. Nevertheless, I ended up taking my bite to Washington Park. I got the GODFATHER hoagie. Flavor off the roof! The worker/owner was pretty cool. Copped some fries and a soda too. I was good for the night!

Hadn't been here in years, but always enjoyed the cheesesteaks from here. Was gonna go to Angelo's but didn't want to deal with the wait so decided where else could I go and thought why not go to Cosmi's as I'd been meaning to revisit the place. Got a plain cheesesteak with Cooper Sharp on a seeded roll from Aversa. Cheesesteak was nice and finely chopped and loaded with meat. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough cheese on it compared to the amount of meat. Next time I will ask for extra cheese on it.

It really sucks when you're coming from out of town and looking for a place to eat. And then that place doesn't do dine in. If it wasn't for the the one table they had, we would have had to eat our cheesesteaks in our car. This place is meant more for locals. We ordered two cheesesteaks with whiz. It took a while for them to make your sandwiches. For some reason, deli places like this always take longer make to food. What I love about deli type restaurants though is that their food is always fresh. The bread in particular. This is by far the most freshest and softest bread I had ever had. The cheesesteak itself was tasty. I do wish they could have added more meat thought. Some parts of the sandwich seemed like there was very little when I was biting into it. But maybe that's just me being a fat ass. I would definitely recommend this to the locals if you haven't yet. For out of Towners I would look elsewhere. It's not my favorite in Philly but it definitely hit the spot.

Wow! Omg wow. This was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten! It took a while to make, and I think it was $13.95. I spoke the the owner of the store, he said this was popular, and after the first bite I could tell why! I ordered the loaded cheese steak and I don't even remember what was in it, lots of steak, pepperoni, bacon, it looked like some salami, we chose the cheese wiz option, and I can't wait to come back to Philly to eat this again. We had the seeded roll, not sure this made any difference at all, but the filling was perfectly seasoned, and there was a lot of grease and salt in the sandwich, and it really hits the spot. We also bought a tiramisu, this wasn't very impressive, but this place ain't known for its baked goods, but rather the incredibly delicious sandwiches. If your in the city you need to go to this place to try their sandwiches. We also bought a vegetarian, and plain cheese steak, all were really really good! The owner also had some other good stuff, this place doubles up as a convenience store it looks like with a few miscellaneous items, and a few good options for juices, we bought a case of juice, enjoyed it all the way home, and had some left over for the next two weeks or so. Be prepared to wait for your sandwich, go with an appetite Because we had to split the sandwich three ways. The lines are sometimes long here, they seem to have some good neighbourhood clientele that are repeat customers, as I would be too if I lived in the area.

Turkey Diablo but I remixed; changed it so much it wasn't that. I added sharp prov. It was amazing. My new "sammich" spot.

I was craving a sandwich and this place was in walking distance! it was a good sandwich. I got a turkey and cheese hoagie (i picked provolone, they have mild and sharp) and i added greens as well. Very yummy! it was ready within ten minutes, but you can call ahead and pick up. Got me a dr pepper as well It's a cute little place but no seating, so keep that in mind!

    Cheese wiz for cheese fries

We used to love Cosmis - great steaks and chicken cutlets but something is funky with the wiz lately. The first time we thought it was a fluke but this is the third time we've gotten bad cheese fries. This time we asked for the wiz on the side so it wouldn't ruin the fries. It was lumpy and tasted gross. Hope they make a change soon!

I've had Cosmi's on my radar for awhile. Bit of a journey to get down here after thinking it was on South and 8th, and not 8th street. But the trip was entirely worth it when we entered the deli. We were immediately welcomed with Philly hospitality. The owner could not have been more friendly, sparking stories with customers and offering free drinks because of the long wait. We came for a cheesesteak and although it took awhile to receive it, he even allowed us to eat inside on the little table they had. On any other day, I don't know if I would give Cosmi's a four star review if it weren't for the incredibly accommodating service because the sandwich itself was a little disappointing. I requested my classic order - grilled onions and provolone. Simple. My mom noticed before I did but the steak tasted a little different than usual. Instead of oozing provolone dripping through the sandwich, the cooks put swiss on it. I get it people make mistakes, but considering how long I've been meaning to come here, it really didn't taste like a classic Philly steak. Above all, I would give Cosmi's another shot because I really didn't get what I wanted. The meat itself was a little dry, but the roll and amount of food they pack inside was great. Awesome owner and a neat spot that I would try a variety of food off the menu from, but there's an empty void considering I didn't quite get what I wanted.

    What is a cheesesteak hoagie?

Generally speaking, a Cheesesteak hoagie is a regular Cheesesteak with lettuce, tomatoes and onions added on it. Pretty much the same toppings you'll find on a cold hoagie.

John's Roast Pork is legendary in Philly - it's been around for decades - 96 years to be exact! I'd been there once before many years ago (couldn't remember anything about it) and thought it was time for a revisit. I got the large Roast Pork sandwich - you can see from the attached picture the 'preferred toppings' (Dad's Way) are: Mustard Raw onions Hot seeded pepper American cheese I had only the Mild Provolone cheese on mine - no mustard, raw onions or seeded pepper. I would have had cooked (caramelized) onions - but they had only raw...and American cheese was not a choice for me (I was raised on it). The pork is supposed to be 'slow roasted (7 hours) pork shoulder (pork butt)' - and it may very well be, but it reminds me of the meat that's carved off the large vertical rotisseries for gyros. It doesn't look that appealing - it's like a large sub sandwich. The pork was soft, tender and seasoned well - the roll was very good - John's had been getting its bread from Carangi Bakery. However, the bakery closed due to a fire so I'm not sure where the bread is from, unless it reopened. I finally satisfied my curiosity about John's and went to see what the sandwich was like. While it probably ranks as one of the better 'pork/steak' sandwiches in Philly, I just couldn't get excited about it.

The Original Pat's King of Steaks is located in South Philly, specifically in the Passyunk Square neighborhood. It sits at the intersection of East Passyunk, South 9th, and Wharton. The building has many different signs and lights that will let you know that you are in the correct place. Since this is in the city, parking can be somewhat tricky. There are times I have had to circle around, or get whomever I was with to drop me off and have them come back. However, sometimes I have secured street parking not too far away. This will just depend on the time of day, and really the luck of the draw, if you are able to easily locate parking. This is an outdoor stand, meaning there is no inside to enter. You will order at the counter, and food is packaged to-go. However, there are some tables surrounding the building that you can dine at. They are all under the roof overhang, so you will be somewhat protected from the elements. On this day, it was not terribly busy. I really did not have to wait in any kind of line before being able to place my order. This was around 4:00 on a Saturday in September. First, I took some time to look over the menu posted near the sidewalk. There is also a helpful guide on "how to order a steak," for those that are unfamiliar. When it was my first time here, I actually found the humorous display very helpful. I placed my order for two classic Cheesesteak Wit, made with Cheez Whiz. When ordering, you specify if you want Wit (with onion) or Wit-Out (no onion). Given that I was wanting to try the most authentic sandwich I could, I opted for the onions and the traditional Cheez Whiz. My sandwiches only took a minute or so to be ready. As stated, it was not busy, and they are able to whip up these sandwiches rather quickly. I ended up taking my sandwiches to-go, and having them for meals the next few days. They reheat well, and have good flavor. I like having the onions on it for an added texture. Pricing is not terrible. Pat's is more expensive than Geno's by $2 for the same sandwich. My total was $36 after tax for the two sandwiches, making them $18 each. You definitely are paying for the experience and the novelty that is coming to this famous corner of Philadelphia. But, this price is not out of the ballpark of other places in the area. The sandwich is a decent size, and you can definitely get two meals out of it if you are eating it by yourself. So, all that considering, it is a fair value for what you pay. It seemed like most menu items were $20 or under. FYI, they take both cash and card. The staff are quick and efficient. However, it will not be the most friendly or pleasant experience, especially if you do not know how to order. I am not saying that the experience was poor by any means, but be aware that this is not Disney World and they will not be overly kind to you at the order window. Being from Pittsburgh, I had never had a true Philadelphia Cheesesteak sandwich until a few years ago when I visited for the first time. Since that trip, I typically make it a point to stop and get a few sandwiches to take back home with me. I enjoy coming to Pat's for the atmosphere, and the true taste of Philadelphia. I recommend giving it a try at least once, just to say you have had it. Plus, the sandwiches are pretty tasty, too. I will definitely be back here on future trips to South Philly.
