Have you ever wanted to play billiards and enjoy some of the best Vietnamese food at the same time? Well, you can, at billiard hoang. While we didn't play billiards this time, we watched some people play over drinks. There is a space sectioned off with tables and a space for pool tables. We chose our own table and ordered the Oxtail Pho, Beef Pho, and fish sauce wings. The wings are made to order and take a bit of time to come out, but it is so worth the wait. Insanely crispy and so flavorful. The pho broth is phenomenal, and they bring you all the sides to garnish with (limes, bean sprouts, jalapeños etc.) you can always ask for more of something if you want it. Oxtail pho isn't a super common type of pho, but it is so good here. Tender and falling off the phone while packed with flavor. The classic beef is also lovely, as long as you eat it fast! So it doesn't get overcooked while sitting in the broth. I've also heard lots of good things about their Banh Mi, which I'll have to try next time I'm in the area. Each bite had the right balance of sweet and tangy, thanks to a marinade. The pieces of short ribs were also super thick. Very laid back vibe that's perfect for any time of day! And after you're done eating, they've got plenty of pool tables if you're looking to kill some time. To start, we went with the spring rolls. You get two for $8, and this is WORTH the money! These spring rolls are the biggest I have ever seen, and wrapped expertly. No veggies or noodles falling out, here! They were delicious, fresh, and the perfect start to the meal. Now, for the star of the meal... THE OXTAIL PHO. I've put off trying oxtail pho for so long, and not for any good reason. Now, I know the reason was because I was meant to try it at Billiard Hoang. At $19, it's definitely steep for a bowl of pho but it is SO worth it. 100% the most savory, flavorful bowl of pho I have ever had in my life. The oxtail was delicious, and came off the bone easily. This is a report of 2 experiences from this year. This place is the definition of a hole in a wall. It's comical when you see a picture of the exterior and all the pictures and reviews of their amazing food. You tell yourself you must brave the traffic and try the food here. Their wings are amazing. Sticky sweetened fish sauce marinate, deep fried to crispy perfection. We tried the regular wings during our first visit, and fish sauce wings won hands down. I ordered pho the first visit, and found the broth too salty while the meat was nothing special. Hubby ordered the lemongrass chicken, and it was spectacular! He will no longer eat lemongrass chicken anywhere else. In our most recent visit i ordered the grilled pork plate with eggs. That was my favorite by far. Tender meat, flavorful marinate, and the slightly charred caramelization made it a perfect dish. Staff is very friendly, but sometimes it can be tough to flag them down if you need something. We used to come here all the time during our adolescent years, but recently hubby and I ordered outside our normal fare of bun mang vit, banh mi, pho and com suon bo, which is all outstanding choices. The infamous hu tieu mi, it's not on the menu but it's pretty much a hu tieu or mi that cam, except inside of one of the other noodles, you get two types of noodles--the egg and pho noodles. It comes with a side of beansprouts, pickled jalapeños, and lime. There's a decent amount of sliced pork, fish balls and shrimp with some fried onions, Chinese celery and other veggies in it. It taste just how I remember it from years ago. Wow, simply nostalgic how a simple dish can bring back so much memories. We've never experienced any bad service, the owners and workers is really outstanding. Just remember, if you need something just ask. Don't expect this to be like a 5-star restaurant when it's a casual dining. The ambiance is fair, they've come a long way to what it used to be. Totally recommend and love this place. I have wanted to come here for a long time. I had heard from a friend that it wasn't big enough but there are plenty of tables for dining. It was a cold rainy Sunday and I was craving a good bowl of soup. We ordered fried tofu banh mi, thinly sliced steak pho, fried spring rolls, rice platter with grilled pork and egg, and a lychee shake. Everything was delicious! The broth in the pho was flavorful and hearty. The grilled pork reminded me of a less sweet version of Korean short ribs. It was a little on the "fatty" side but I just ate around the fat. I think the fried spring rolls contained shrimp. I'm not allergic but maybe ask before ordering. Service was on the slow side to start (both in being seated and ordering) but food came out relatively quickly and they apologized for not taking our order sooner. The lychee shake contained whole lychees. My teenage daughter loved it but it is a bit sweet and juice I would guess is from a can. Parking lot was full due to a large party but I was able to park in the neighborhood and then move my car when the parking lot had more spaces. First stop on a semi-spontaneous day of great eating and drinking. Now, is it really spontaneous of me to FINALLY check out a place I have spent more than 10 years wanting to try and not getting organized enough to do it? Well, not really. But we wanted to go a little farther and try something interesting and this certainly qualifies. Is it really a sports bar? A pool hall? Yeah. These qualities stand out way before you would think about what the food might be like, at least if you walked in uninformed. Small parking lot, squatty little building, regulars puffing cigarettes outside the front door. You walk in and everything's finished and fine, but nothing's fancy. Some of the little stairs and some of the decor look timeless...like, you really can't tell if they've been there 5 years or 55 years. It has that not-quite-divey feel where you can easily imagine regulars who have been in almost every day for years. There are high dividers between spaces, and some are up a couple steps from the main floor. The bathrooms are in back, down a zigzaggy hallway. You get the idea--the construction is just kinda all over the place. Hallmark of many a fine old institutional neighborhood watering hole, ya know? Up a step or two and into the dining room where the bar is, there are maybe a dozen inexpensive tables with racks of hot sauces, hoisin, and all that. Each table gets a little laminated menu with the pho, noodle bowls, rolls, sandwiches, and other stuff you've probably had a million times at a hundred other places. We started with quail, which come out scorching hot, a little crispy here and there, still super juicy inside. Tons of flavor--great seasoning, and perfectly-cooked bird. Each one is a little smaller than a full chicken wing, a little bigger than a drum or a flat on its own. It's easy to imagine somebody ordering a bunch of plates of these and taking them down the way you would wings, but they have way more flavor and they're way more interesting. And now, that pho. Some pho just immediately makes you wonder if it's the best ever, and you try to remember where you've had its equal. This is that pho. Perfectly-balanced seasoning in the broth--it's not that place with the sweet one, or the anisey one, or the earthy one. It's like a perfect chord on a perfectly-tuned guitar. Even if you love all the notes on their own, there's something special about the exact harmonies when they combine. Amazing broth is where pho places make their mark, and this one not only nails the seasoning, but the collagen from the oxtail makes it rich without being oily or greasy or fatty. It's amazing. This could easily ruin you for other phos. That oxtail really is the star, too. It's like having a few tiny pot roasts in your soup. Rich, homey, comforting. Really does taste like pot roast, too. The rest of the soup was great, but think about asking for noodles on the side and adding them gradually or maybe eating them early. Time spent gnawing on bones tends to leave the noodles soaking a long time and can soften them a bit. Service here was quick--right on top of orders, waters, tea, drinks, and food. One guy seemed to be the owner or GM, and he was funny and charming throughout. He laughed a bit when we told him how long we had been meaning to come in, and said "oh, yes, our pho is very well-known around here. But the best part of our place is me!" I wish we had chatted with him some more. He's one of those people that can't help but put smiles on your faces, and that certainly suits a place with pho this good. read more

Maybe the most underrated pho spot I've seen, and I gotta believe that's because it's out of the way of the busy famous neighborhoods of Seattle in the unassuming little corner of MLK Blvd. But don't let that fool you! The EAT MORE PHO street art outside should be a sign you need to stop in to this PHO + POOL HALL (WHAT?!?!) where they whip up some of the greatest pho you'll ever have with an unapologetically rich broth that shows pho is not the lesser cousin to ramen but my personal preference with a refreshing but flavorful blend of some of the greatest flavors you could load into soup form. If I had to describe it the broth is darker, beefier, and more spiced than a lot of pho you'll find but not overpoweringly so. Not to mention you can get banh mi and all the other great vietnamese fixings here if you need to scratch that itch too. SO PLEASE SUPPORT THIS AMAZING ESTABLISHMENT! One of Beacon Hill's neighborhood gems. My cousin and her boyfriend had a fabulous idea to meet us at this humble neighborhood eatery. The interior is unsuspecting with pool tables and a few tables in the back for dine-in customers, and Vietnamese music blaring in the background. Honestly a vibe. We ordered a variety of things to try, all of which were heartwarming and absolutely delicious: *gói cuõn/spring rolls ($8 for 2 pieces) * bún bò huê ($13) * chaó vįt/duck quarter leg salad with congee ($14) * cóm bò lúc lác/rice plate with beef tenderloin cubes and two eggs ($17) This was a meal to remember, and I'm already looking forward to trying new things (although the drive here is not my favorite :') ). This place makes one of the BEST Bun Mang Vit! I went here when i was like 13 years old (I'm 21 now) and its still the best! Nothing has changed because i still remember it being so delicious. I've tried their other foods but if you go here the Bun Mang Vit is a must try. I honestly dont know many places that sell this dish around seattle or tacoma so this place is pretty unique. It's pretty loud but its a billiards place so its expected. They also made a Vietnamese drink that was not on the menu for me. Direct translation is "Soda egg"! This is one of our regular spots that we pick up from. Wide variety of eats with super affordable prices. When we used to bring our out of town guests here (pre-COVID), they usually ended up loving it so much! As a few of the reviews note, they have re-vamped the appearance of this spot. Either way, it's a unique experience, with friendly staff, and reminds me of grabbing banh mi's in Vietnam. Can't go wrong ordering their classic pho and banh mi's. For only $5 a pop, the pork and beef short rib ($8) banh mi's are my favs. Recently ordered the bun bo hue, but not a big fan. After all these years of eating here, so glad we ordered the *fried tofu!* Who woulda thought tofu could taste this good?! We were here for a Sunday dinner. We were about 10 people. When we sat down, we were still waiting for other friends so we did mention that to the server. In terms of customer service: Very weird negative feeling from the server..When we started to order, we could sense the hostility from the server. It is possible that we could have been abit confusing on the orders since we just started ordering, we got taken aback by his attitude(both the way he presents himself and the way he talks) we dunno, maybe that could just be his personality. But we were kinda hesitant to ask for other things due to that. We also thought perhaps he wasn't prepared to handle a 10 person table. But anyway we dunno. There was also another incident when we were already playing billiards I asked for water and he was like: "just pour yourself your own water because it's right there." But the other waiter who was near the water pitcher was there and poured me one anyway. Also I guess I didn't want to assume that self service was ok since there weren't any signs to do so. But he was just so passive aggressive which was getting quite annoying. I was trying to be patient perhaps he had a much longer day than we did. In terms of food, we loved their fried chicken wings. It was glazed and had fish sauce in the marinade (which reminded me of pokpok chicken in portland, which permanently closed ) anyway, just a quick note, this dish does take awhile for them to cook it. So we did wait quite a bit for those. I had the #29 shrimp with pork with lots of crispy garlic. So I would say it is just your typical pho, but i was expecting abit more shrimp in that soup. The bowl was so big but my shrimp was only 2 total! And everything was meat. So it didn't feel like it was good equal proportion of shrimp and meat. The lemon grass chicken with rice noodle had really tender chicken. The 5 spice chicken rice meal with fried egg- was also good. I love the coconut juice. My friends also ordered their vietnamese coffee which definitely did not have any cream/condensed milk whatsoever, that it was just straight up coffee, so bitter, but whatever, perhaps it is what it is. But my friend did separately asked for condensed milk and thye did give her quite a good amount. LOL! We also played billiards while we were there. They charge $15 per hour. In my experience I feel as though that was steeped since most bars typically charge $1 (in quarters) for 1 game, but for the $15 if we were playing a slow game then that would have been expensive. I feel like for that one hour we only did play like 4-5 games so definitely didn't get our buck for that price. Overall: food experience was delicious but pretty typical pho soup. Perhaps the rice meals were a better choice. Overall customer service: not good since we were experiencing a very obvious passive aggressiveness from the waiter. Hence the 3 stars. Parking on the other hand is plentiful but the restaurant is in a sketchy area so just be careful. read more

Ordered a banh mi thit nguoi dac biet without pate, cilantro and jalapeños. My order was correct, got in the car and gobbled it down immediately.
