The first reason was my pain tolerance is LOW and after talking to all my friends who had them said it felt like a cheese grater scraping your skin for hours. lol eeek! My husband has a huge tattoo from Made to Last but I couldn't go to the same guy because that guy moved out of the city. My good friend said he had a guy who could do it with no problem and he was right! He was also at Made to Last so it was a win win for me. Jon was a sweetheart and talked me through my design as well as the placement. The day of my appointment, I arrived at the shop and Jon had two options for my design. The stencil took about an hour to place but that was mostly due to the placement of the design which was a mandala on my shoulder. I appreciate that Jon took care of where my design was placed and ensured it was symmetrical on my body. Overall, the tattoo took 3 hours, for the first two hours I listened to music since the tattoo machine sound bothers me but for the last hour I chatted with Jon. He is a great artist and has years of experience. 10/10 would recommend anyone to visit this shop!

For starters, the tattoo artist ( Tina) didn't speak English too well and was slightly temperamental. I decided to ignore that red flag and proceeded to get a tattoo with Tina anyway... Long story short, the tattoo wasn't that great because she used way too much shadow on my mothers portrait but I let that slide and moved on to the next red flag After 6 hours of mutilating my arm with her over shadowing, Tina decided she had enough and insisted that I come back in two weeks to finish up... Didn't even realize that was a red flag UNTIL... Two weeks later I go back to the same Black Cloud Tattoos to finish my tattoo but before we could get started Tina began demanding an extra $400 on top of the $800 I already paid her. Even tho we agreed the entire tattoo would only cost a hefty $800 When I complained to the store manager about this unethical bait and switch the manager and owner( Lucy Roman) said Tina could charge what she wanted to charge and that I signed a waiver stating that I agreed to those terms.. I personally never heard of an agreement where switch and bait was apart of a business agreement so I didn't think to look for that provision. In any case, Im looking into legal options to get my money back but in the meantime I hope others take heed to the red flags that I ignored with Black Cloud Tattoos unless you want " sucker " tattooed on your forehead.‍

He spent over 40 minutes marking up my ear to find proper placement. The entire time he was shaking, he would erase a mark he made and continue to do the same thing over and over again. He told me to lay down on the wrong side the piercing was supposed to be on. I told him that was the wrong side and he replied "oh yeah duh I forgot". He wasn't making sense with his vocabulary. I was very scared and that's coming from someone who has had many piercings and tattoos from your establishment. He finally got around to piercing the top part of the industrial, and he then walked away from the needle still visibly in my ear to then mark the second hole which took him another 5 or so minutes. I knew something wasn't right. I thought he was done with the entire piercing to be honest. Turns out he was no where near being finished. My friend got up to look and there was a huge pool of blood on the table under my head and coated in my hair. He then proceeded to say he needed to try again with the piercing. I was confused as to what this meant. I then asked if he was going to re pierce a second hole and he became confused and argumentative. He said he needed to re angle it. I was shaking and felt very nauseous. I asked him to please stop the service and he got more argumentative. I was so uncomfortable and quite frankly, traumatized. I ended up leaving with my entire ear bandaged up. This is completely unacceptable that you would have someone that inexperienced and rude working there. It's a a complete safety concern for all other at this establishment. Also, there were no wavers signed and zero accountability for his actions. He was very cold and seemed like he was on something. I am going to let people know, not to come here for their safety. I would like an apology. His apology and I quote was..."I'm sorry bro, but it happens"... I am completely traumatized. More than a few years back I had some work done - some mountains on my shoulder - that I was not happy with... at all. A few years later I got it reworked over a few sessions and it looked better, but it still wasn't great. I had more or less given up, resigning myself to a tattoo that looked like nothing I wanted and that I would always have to explain as a mistake. It sucked. Fast forward to the summer of '18. I had moved to NC from UT a couple years earlier. I started contacting artists in Charlotte, Greensboro, and Asheville. I sent pictures of what I had and described what I was looking for. Most places never returned my message or call and if they did they more or less said, "I can make it look better, but it will never look like you want". Then I messaged Mike. A day or two later I got a very enthusiastic message saying he would love to work on it and he was confident he could make it look a lot better. We exchanged messages and eventually discussed it over the phone. I came down to Charlotte (still cautions in my optimism). Again, he was supremely confident that he could make it happen. I set up an appointment and went in. My appointment took most of the day, but time flew by. I was more nervous than anything (this was my last chance), which made me more squirmy than normal, but Mike was super patient and kept telling me it was going to be fine. We chatted all day about everything under the sun, told some jokes, watched some TV, enjoyed some Korean food during breaks... all while he worked through a back injury to fix my tattoo. As it turns out, he was 100% right. Not only did he fix the piece, he exceeded my expectations. It was truly incredible. I could not have been happier with the outcome, with what he could do. There is often an intense sense of appreciation when someone does good work on your body bc it ain't going anywhere, but when someone fixes something that has been there for years that you weren't proud of... man, I can't thank Mike enough. Mike even followed up and asked how things were healing. He genuinely cared about the work. He wanted me to be happy. If I could give this place 100 stars I would. Go here to get your tattoos.
