Wheeewweeee! It was such a great experience and I'm so glad. I've been wanting a tattoo for a while but I was so afraid I'd never get to get one for two reasons. The first reason was my pain tolerance is LOW and after talking to all my friends who had them said it felt like a cheese grater scraping your skin for hours. lol eeek! The second reason was because I keloid if cut too deep so I was afraid of that too. My husband has a huge tattoo from Made to Last but I couldn't go to the same guy because that guy moved out of the city. I took my girls here today to get their ears done. I can't say enough good things about Michael. He is exactly who you want doing your piercings. Especially for kids. I have had an ugly scar on my side that I have wanted hide since I was 12. I finally decided that I would cover it up when I felt confident with an artist that was good with tattooing scars and was good with black and grey shading. I found him. This place is staffed with a talented cast of true artists. They also care about sanitation and proper technique. I was given instructions on aftercare for the days and weeks following my new tattoo. Bryan Humphries was very gentle. The first 5 minutes were semi-intense but after that it was a breeze. His conversation had a way of distracting you from what was going on. I had looked at his work before I made my appointment and loved his shading methods using nothing but black, white, and greys. That is what he gave me. My tattoo is awesome. I had an absolutely wonderful experience here. Jason Hannah did my piece- a peacock feather - and it was my very first tattoo. My consultation with him was very warm and inviting. My appointment was very comfortable. He even was happy to change his music station to classic rock for me while I was getting my work done. He offered Gatorade which I took him up on... twice (lol). And really worked with me in the shading department to make my peacock feather look as natural as it could. I cried when I saw it it's so beautiful. The wispiness of it looks so ridiculously real. I'm so happy I didn't chicken out of the shading, or the entire tattoo altogether. He does some amazing quality work, and I'm about to make another appointment with him for my next one. I definitely recommend his services to anyone wanting a meaningful work of art. Also, Michael Wilson was more than happy to give me a symmetrical nose stud while I was waiting for my tattoo appointment. Been here a few times because every time I meet someone in Charlotte with a gorgeous tattoo, they tell me they got in done at Made To Last. Got one done by Jeremy, one done by Brian L, got my nipples pierced by Michael a while back and they're all wonderful. The guy who runs the front is always great. They get back to me very quickly and answers any questions I have. I was even able to get my tattoo done sooner than I expected due to a cancellation once! From the first phone call to make an appointment I knew this place was completely different from any other tattoo parlor I'd ever been to or seen. Completely professional right from the start. Sometimes I feel that normal or not people with tattoos from head to toe get looked down in when hey go in for a scripture or something small- that did NOT happen here!! No judgment whatsoever! The building is a gem hidden in uptown Charlotte- I think the guys said it was built in 1890, and had been renovated. It was beautiful! And so clean and bright! Not only were the employees super professional, but my best friend and I made friends with some other clients right away...even their clients were cool The music was very chill and the overall vibe showed that the artists loved what they get to do for a living. We left happy with our choices, and already discussing plans to come back- even though we both live in other states. Side note: I'm currently sitting in another tattoo parlor in GA while my husband is getting a new one- and compared to Made to Last- I'm pretty much disgusted. Everything the people do here I'm comparing it to what the artists did last week and there is no comparison. I first came to this studio through a recommendation from a friend. I was fresh off the street and barely tattooed. It's now 2 years later and about 200 tattoo hours. I have to admit I didn't know what the hell I was doing when I first called, but I was looking to accomplish something great. I knew the work coming from this spot was incredible and world class so I knew I had to get in on a piece of their greatness. From the first phone call, Brandon turned me into a studio regular. Made to Last is simply amazing and runs like a well oiled machine thanks, in large part, to Brandon. He is incredible at keeping everything under control and everybody taken care of at every second. I have sat for Brian Leebrick, Graham Beech, and Jason Hannah so far. I also sat for Scott Denhalter while he was guest spotting in the shop. The guys are all so different, but each great at doing what they do. The guys are welcoming and always deliver. I like having consultations personally and the shop makes it easy to get in with the artist. The artists listen to you and provide input respectfully and professionally. I've been tattooed here both with consultations and without and it's a flawless experience either way. Honestly, these guys are just great at creating awesome tattoos. I've learned so much from these artists and this shop as a whole, that my experience is invaluable. The shop itself is worth seeing even if you aren't getting tattooed. It's the most incredibly styled shop with tons of character in an old Victorian house. Made to Last is more than a tattoo shop. It's a home for art and tattoos. An empire, if you will, and it will always hold a place in my heart. I've also gotten pierced by Michael Wilson after he joined the crew. I was tattooed by Jason Hanna, and my expectations were exceeded! His work is beautiful, and a year later I'm still so in love with my tattoo! They are located on the first floor of an historic home in Fourth Ward of Uptown Charlotte. The artists may share their "room" with one (maybe 2) other artists. One area is open concept (like the living room/dining area) and they have some private rooms. It is extremely clean with a sterile type smell, which is exactly what you want in a tattoo parlor. The artists are professionL and present themselves as professionals in their field. No smoking inside. There is a $150 minimum. I would definitely return. Highly recommend. This is a high-end parlor. The best! Booked my first outside-of-Boston tattoo here because my favorite and trusted tattooers in Boston told me to. The building that this shop is in is soooo beautiful - I know that doesn't matter, but it also doesn't hurt. What DOES matter is the talent of the artists, and that's where Made to Last really stands out. Chris tattooed me last night and I was one of those obnoxious clients who has a vague idea of what I want, wants to add on to something I already have, and is just generally unclear about the details. Somehow Chris managed to read my mind and figure out exactly what I wanted before I even knew exactly what I wanted. He was also honest - wasn't just trying to please my ignorant ass, but actually used his expertise to let me know what aspects of my imagined-tattoo just wouldn't work. On top of all that, he created a perfect tattoo that is unbelievably detailed, perfectly sized, and will only look better with time. I can't believe how beautiful it is. One hesitation that I had about Made to Last was that it was going to be prohibitively expensive. They are so well-known and respected that I assumed the hourly rates would be sky-high. They weren't. He put together a wonderful design, made me feel at ease (I was pretty nervous due to my last experience elsewhere), and it was relatively painless! It healed up very nicely and it looks wonderful. Beyond his technical skill, I got to chat with him a lot during my visit and found him to be a really awesome individual.
