Wheeewweeee! It was such a great experience and I'm so glad. I've been wanting a tattoo for a while but I was so afraid I'd never get to get one for two reasons. The first reason was my pain tolerance is LOW and after talking to all my friends who had them said it felt like a cheese grater scraping your skin for hours. lol eeek! The second reason was because I keloid if cut too deep so I was afraid of that too. My husband has a huge tattoo from Made to Last but I couldn't go to the same guy because that guy moved out of the city. My good friend said he had a guy who could do it with no problem and he was right! He was also at Made to Last so it was a win win for me. After I knew what a wanted, I booked with Matt Skinny and away I went down the path of getting my tattoo! I LOVE the old house they are in and so admire that they kept the old charm. It so doesn't feel like a tattoo place. Loved all the clientele that walked in and loved all the conversations that were happening around me. I felt comfortable and calm and it took my mind off of the cheese grating that was happening on my arm!!! Lolol! I'm VERY pleased with my results and I've already talked to him about the other tattoo that I want!!! It's only been four days and the tattoo looks as if it's been there for years. This is the best experience I've ever had at a tattoo shop. The entire atmosphere of the shop is so SICK. The staff are so kind and work so hard to make sure their clients are comfortable. Michael is a very informative piercer and genuinely cares about the clients wants/needs. Zack Deaton did my tattoo, and incredible is understatement. He's so kind and answered all my questions. I came in for an appt yesterday and threw Chris a curveball on the design. He was able to come up with something new and amazing very quickly. The shop has a great atmosphere of friends working together and it shows. There were some walk ins who they treated with respect and grace as several weren't sure of what they wanted I will definitely be coming back and recommend them all to anyone. read more

I took my girls here today to get their ears done. I can't say enough good things about Michael. He is exactly who you want doing your piercings. Especially for kids. He's so reassuring to feelings and nerves. My youngest daughter was very nervous and he talked her through everything. He is super kind and his attention to detail is amazing. I was also happy with the hygiene practices of the shop but specifically him. I will say this was the most I've ever spent on piercings but I would 100% do it again to work with him. read more

I have had an ugly scar on my side that I have wanted hide since I was 12. I finally decided that I would cover it up when I felt confident with an artist that was good with tattooing scars and was good with black and grey shading. I found him. This place is staffed with a talented cast of true artists. They also care about sanitation and proper technique. I was given instructions on aftercare for the days and weeks following my new tattoo. The building is beautiful. The atmosphere is cool. I was nervous about the level of pain that I was about to experience during my session. The anticipation of the unknown gave me a lot of anxiety. Bryan Humphries was very gentle. The first 5 minutes were semi-intense but after that it was a breeze. His conversation had a way of distracting you from what was going on. I had looked at his work before I made my appointment and loved his shading methods using nothing but black, white, and greys. That is what he gave me. My tattoo is awesome. My scars are totally hidden. I didn't tap-out or freak out. I'm chuffed with everything! read more

I had an absolutely wonderful experience here. Jason Hannah did my piece- a peacock feather - and it was my very first tattoo. My consultation with him was very warm and inviting. My appointment was very comfortable. He even was happy to change his music station to classic rock for me while I was getting my work done. He offered Gatorade which I took him up on... twice (lol). And really worked with me in the shading department to make my peacock feather look as natural as it could. I cried when I saw it it's so beautiful. The wispiness of it looks so ridiculously real. I'm so happy I didn't chicken out of the shading, or the entire tattoo altogether. He does some amazing quality work, and I'm about to make another appointment with him for my next one. I definitely recommend his services to anyone wanting a meaningful work of art. Also, Michael Wilson was more than happy to give me a symmetrical nose stud while I was waiting for my tattoo appointment. I appreciate his time and effort to make sure and double check the mark matched the other side of my nose before he pierced it. It wasn't just in and out, he was careful and precise. Also, my dude carries H2Ocean which I am totally down with. I recommend his services and aftercare products hands down. read more

Unsure as to why Made To Last isn't the #1 rated shop in Charlotte???? Been here a few times because every time I meet someone in Charlotte with a gorgeous tattoo, they tell me they got in done at Made To Last. Got one done by Jeremy, one done by Brian L, got my nipples pierced by Michael a while back and they're all wonderful. The guy who runs the front is always great. They get back to me very quickly and answers any questions I have. I was even able to get my tattoo done sooner than I expected due to a cancellation once! Before COVID they allowed my friend and I to do a walk in for small work. I recommend this place to all of my friends and was astounded by the lack of reviews so I had to let y'all know what was up. Gonna stop in again ASAP! You guys rock! read more

the atmosphere in their shop was one of the coolest i have seen. Every artist and member of their staff i had the chance to meet were beyond welcoming, and its clear why they are some of the best in the business. If anyone is willing to take a trip to get some awesome work done, or find yourself in that area, i highly recommend them. You will not be disappointed! Made to Last Tattoo is just spectacular. The staff is comprised of consummate professionals that obviously have a deep appreciation for their customers and it's evident with the experience MTL provides for them. Response time is incredibly quick and they treat you like a friend from the very first interaction. The space is gorgeous - it's impeccably clean but at the same time, does not feel hospital sterile. We are from out of town and wanted a sporadic couples tattoo and these guys absolutely delivered. They were incredibly easy to work with and we loved the work they did. Mike was our artist and he kept us laughing the entire session, and Amy was amazing at getting at getting us scheduled. From the first phone call to make an appointment I knew this place was completely different from any other tattoo parlor I'd ever been to or seen. Completely professional right from the start. Sometimes I feel that normal or not people with tattoos from head to toe get looked down in when hey go in for a scripture or something small- that did NOT happen here!! No judgment whatsoever! The building is a gem hidden in uptown Charlotte- I think the guys said it was built in 1890, and had been renovated. It was beautiful! And so clean and bright! Not only were the employees super professional, but my best friend and I made friends with some other clients right away...even their clients were cool The music was very chill and the overall vibe showed that the artists loved what they get to do for a living. We left happy with our choices, and already discussing plans to come back- even though we both live in other states. Side note: I'm currently sitting in another tattoo parlor in GA while my husband is getting a new one- and compared to Made to Last- I'm pretty much disgusted. Everything the people do here I'm comparing it to what the artists did last week and there is no comparison. I've been trying to get him to forfeit this place and make an appointment w/ Made to Last, but he's stubborn, so we'll see . I will most definitely go back to Made to Last for my next one. read more

I loved it. I felt welcome here right away, they took care of me and my sister. We both got cartilage piercings. It was my sister's first cartilage piercing and she's really happy with her experience. I love mine. I first came to this studio through a recommendation from a friend. I was fresh off the street and barely tattooed. It's now 2 years later and about 200 tattoo hours. I have to admit I didn't know what the hell I was doing when I first called, but I was looking to accomplish something great. I knew the work coming from this spot was incredible and world class so I knew I had to get in on a piece of their greatness. From the first phone call, Brandon turned me into a studio regular. Made to Last is simply amazing and runs like a well oiled machine thanks, in large part, to Brandon. He is incredible at keeping everything under control and everybody taken care of at every second. I have sat for Brian Leebrick, Graham Beech, and Jason Hannah so far. I also sat for Scott Denhalter while he was guest spotting in the shop. The guys are all so different, but each great at doing what they do. The guys are welcoming and always deliver. I like having consultations personally and the shop makes it easy to get in with the artist. The artists listen to you and provide input respectfully and professionally. I've been tattooed here both with consultations and without and it's a flawless experience either way. Honestly, these guys are just great at creating awesome tattoos. I've learned so much from these artists and this shop as a whole, that my experience is invaluable. The shop itself is worth seeing even if you aren't getting tattooed. It's the most incredibly styled shop with tons of character in an old Victorian house. Made to Last is more than a tattoo shop. It's a home for art and tattoos. An empire, if you will, and it will always hold a place in my heart. I've also gotten pierced by Michael Wilson after he joined the crew. I can truly say he is the most charismatic piercer in Charlotte. He's very laidback and provides a welcoming, considerate space to his clients. I've been thinking of what else to get pierced just for another great experience! Try the Made to Last experience. You'll never be the same again. Not sure why it's taken me so long to write this review, but I came here after following the shop's Instagram page and seeing all the amazing work. I was tattooed by Jason Hanna, and my expectations were exceeded! His work is beautiful, and a year later I'm still so in love with my tattoo! The shop is clean and really nice, and the artists are friendly. As far as pricing goes (if I remember correctly), the shop minimum is $100, and then each artist has an hourly fee after that. Everyone there is so talented, so it's definitely worth it. read more

I went here not for a tattoo, but a ear piercing. I have sensitive skin, and very sensitive ears, and have had them pierced twice at claire's, both times they got irritated and infected. i came here and it is incredible! my ears feel completely fine and i got them done a week ago! they use titanium earrings that are hypoallergenic! read more

This is the finest tattoo shop in Charlotte. I have visited many of them and decided against doing business with several. They are located on the first floor of an historic home in Fourth Ward of Uptown Charlotte. The artists may share their "room" with one (maybe 2) other artists. One area is open concept (like the living room/dining area) and they have some private rooms. It is extremely clean with a sterile type smell, which is exactly what you want in a tattoo parlor. The artists are professionL and present themselves as professionals in their field. No smoking inside. There is a $150 minimum. I would definitely return. Highly recommend. This is a high-end parlor. Amazing tattoo place. I just got my first tattoo here. I was so so nervous and paranoid about all that could go wrong and I couldn't have been treated better. The tattoo artist (Brian) told me to take a deep breath, told me that I'd probably say "oh that's it??" When he started. And he wasn't wrong. They take every precaution necessary and they don't cut corners. My tattoo is amazing and I honestly could not be happier. The best! Booked my first outside-of-Boston tattoo here because my favorite and trusted tattooers in Boston told me to. The building that this shop is in is soooo beautiful - I know that doesn't matter, but it also doesn't hurt. What DOES matter is the talent of the artists, and that's where Made to Last really stands out. Chris tattooed me last night and I was one of those obnoxious clients who has a vague idea of what I want, wants to add on to something I already have, and is just generally unclear about the details. Somehow Chris managed to read my mind and figure out exactly what I wanted before I even knew exactly what I wanted. He was also honest - wasn't just trying to please my ignorant ass, but actually used his expertise to let me know what aspects of my imagined-tattoo just wouldn't work. On top of all that, he created a perfect tattoo that is unbelievably detailed, perfectly sized, and will only look better with time. I can't believe how beautiful it is. One hesitation that I had about Made to Last was that it was going to be prohibitively expensive. They are so well-known and respected that I assumed the hourly rates would be sky-high. They weren't. The cost of my tattoo last night was beyond reasonable, and I hope I tipped well enough to show my appreciation. So glad to have such an exceptional shop here in my new city. read more

I've been getting tattooed by Chris Stuart for 6 years now and he's so amazing I literally don't have to tell him what to do anymore, because I know whatever it is, it will be flawless. Jason Hanna did an AMAZING job on my custom tattoo. I described the concept and gave him some examples of the type of look I wanted. He put together a wonderful design, made me feel at ease (I was pretty nervous due to my last experience elsewhere), and it was relatively painless! It healed up very nicely and it looks wonderful. Beyond his technical skill, I got to chat with him a lot during my visit and found him to be a really awesome individual. If someone is going to craft something that will last a lifetime on me, I want it to be of the hands of a genuinely good person and I absolutely got that with Jason. I'm super happy with the whole situation and I will definitely be back very soon to get more work done! read more

This is not a "I want my boyfriends name tattooed on my wrist in script" kind of shop. This is a serious top-of-the-line shop. Very professional. Awesome work. Not a bad artist in the building. I've been following some of their artists for a while now and I was very happy to see them at Charlotte's newest shop! They have a great group of artists and studio managers that will work with you to get the tattoo you want. I have gotten most of my tattoos from Jenn Small, but I do recommend their other artists as well. Also, look the shop up on Instagram and you can see each artist's individual style. All in all, I am very happy with my tattoo and continually surprised by the work the artists produce! read more

Had been looking for a tattoo spot in CLT for a few months now, but found no real solid recommendations. Jumped on Yelp and reviewed some places, and Made To Last Tattoo stood out to me with some of its work...emailed the shop and someone immediately responded to me. The manager, Brandon, suggested that I come see Bryan Humphries for my new art. Went to the consultation on Monday and got tatted that Thursday. Bryan did an awesome job on my black and grey thigh tattoo. He was professional, polite, and most of all, able to bring my vision to life with his own creativity. The shop is great and the atmosphere is welcoming. Brandon runs a tight ship and is very knowledgeable about the actual process and it made my first tattoo experience very simple and easy to set up. For starters, the tattoo artist ( Tina) didn't speak English too well and was slightly temperamental. I decided to ignore that red flag and proceeded to get a tattoo with Tina anyway... Long story short, the tattoo wasn't that great because she used way too much shadow on my mothers portrait but I let that slide and moved on to the next red flag After 6 hours of mutilating my arm with her over shadowing, Tina decided she had enough and insisted that I come back in two weeks to finish up... Didn't even realize that was a red flag UNTIL... Two weeks later I go back to the same Black Cloud Tattoos to finish my tattoo but before we could get started Tina began demanding an extra $400 on top of the $800 I already paid her. Even tho we agreed the entire tattoo would only cost a hefty $800 When I complained to the store manager about this unethical bait and switch the manager and owner( Lucy Roman) said Tina could charge what she wanted to charge and that I signed a waiver stating that I agreed to those terms.. I personally never heard of an agreement where switch and bait was apart of a business agreement so I didn't think to look for that provision. In any case, Im looking into legal options to get my money back but in the meantime I hope others take heed to the red flags that I ignored with Black Cloud Tattoos unless you want " sucker " tattooed on your forehead.‍

He spent over 40 minutes marking up my ear to find proper placement. The entire time he was shaking, he would erase a mark he made and continue to do the same thing over and over again. He told me to lay down on the wrong side the piercing was supposed to be on. I told him that was the wrong side and he replied "oh yeah duh I forgot". He wasn't making sense with his vocabulary. I was very scared and that's coming from someone who has had many piercings and tattoos from your establishment. He finally got around to piercing the top part of the industrial, and he then walked away from the needle still visibly in my ear to then mark the second hole which took him another 5 or so minutes. I knew something wasn't right. I thought he was done with the entire piercing to be honest. Turns out he was no where near being finished. My friend got up to look and there was a huge pool of blood on the table under my head and coated in my hair. He then proceeded to say he needed to try again with the piercing. I was confused as to what this meant. I then asked if he was going to re pierce a second hole and he became confused and argumentative. He said he needed to re angle it. I was shaking and felt very nauseous. I asked him to please stop the service and he got more argumentative. I was so uncomfortable and quite frankly, traumatized. I ended up leaving with my entire ear bandaged up. This is completely unacceptable that you would have someone that inexperienced and rude working there. It's a a complete safety concern for all other at this establishment. Also, there were no wavers signed and zero accountability for his actions. He was very cold and seemed like he was on something. I am going to let people know, not to come here for their safety. I would like an apology. His apology and I quote was..."I'm sorry bro, but it happens"... I am completely traumatized. This is what I sent to their IG and have not heard anything back. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! They obviously don't care about the safety of their clients

I thought that was odd - why not pay as you go? - but she told me that is how she does business and she assured me that if my 91 year old uncle died, she would refund the money fully for appointments not used. Then in September 2023 she sent an email about scheduling for 2024 and I had to schedule immediately (and pay) for the next year because she said that appointments were almost full. My then 92 year old uncle only wanted every other month appointments so I paid $620 for 2024. Unfortunately, my uncle died before using his 2024 appointments. Although Melissa asked me to give her two months for a refund, which I did, and she sent me a photo of the refund precessing a month ago - still no refund and only long, dramatic diatribes instead from her. This was my experience and I would not recommend this company and would not want other customers to fight for refunds and deal with all of this nonsense. I believe she just got back from a month long vacation which makes it worse. I hope this helps others who may be thinking of using her services.

I have mostly hated every tattoo shop I have ever been too. Ive always felt like most tattoo artist think they are wayyyyyy cooler than they actually are, and there seems to be a weird ego involved at most places... Not here though! This place is packed full of talent! What I like most is the variety of artistic styles. It seems as though each artist has a tattoo style that they are really good at. Its apparent to me that these artist are hand picked to work here. I like that! I think we can all agree, not everyone who owns a tattoo gun should be allowed to call themselves an artist! I am super picky. I am also a small business owner myself, so I notice all the little things. While I was sitting in the waiting room, I got to hear the professionalism of the man who runs the shop while talking on the phone. I also witnessed two different artist meet their clients prior to even making appointments to do consultations! I have always wanted that! Why dont more shops make people feel wanted! I have been to many different Charlotte shops and this one is by far my favorite. I am a lover of traditional style tattooing and have followed Jenn Small from two other shops to this location. She has done 4 pieces on me now and I have personally sent many people her way. Not something I have done with any other artist. Ever. Good job guys! read more

I recently posted a negative review on Jenn Smalls, one of the tattoo artists there. I do not recommend going to her. She was on her phone and I felt like she was unprofessional. Less than an hour after the review was posted Brandon, the gentleman that works front of house/manager called me. He had already talked to Matt (one of the owners) about my experience and wanted to extend an apology. They did not try to give me bullshit on the matter and just wanted to genuinely apologize. You can tell the experience I had does not reflect their shop. When I made the review I was not expecting to feel better about what had happened to me, I made the post to hopefully save a future customer. By the end of the conversation I felt much better and finally have closure from what had happened. Thank you Made To Last Tattoos for listening, apologizing and making it right with me. I have not met Matt yet but look forward to meeting him and I have known Brandon from coming into the shop and he continues to be a huge asset to the shop. They truly care for their customers and for someone that has not been to the shop or is thinking about getting their first tattoo this is the place to do it. read more

I've been coming to this shop for almost a year now, and I don't want to go anywhere else. First off, I travel from Raleigh to come to this shop simply for the caliber of work that they produced. When I say that they are the best at what they do, it is simply an understatement. I have had 4 pieces done by Jeremy Hamilton and what he does with color is otherworldly. Everyone at the shop is so friendly! The managers Brandon & Mae make you feel welcome the minute you step through the door. I think what stands out the most is that all the artists here, whether you've had work done by them or not, talk to you and make you feel welcome. I can't remember one time that I have left the shop without smiling with the piece that I have and the artists wishing me a safe drive home. The shop is always pristine and parking is never an issue. This shop trumps every tattoo shop I've been to in the country, which is why I would travel any distance to come here. Keep up the great work guys! read more

I love this place! I've now seen Jason and Jenn. Jason was really great and very welcoming to me and husband when we first came in. Since then I've seen Jenn and I am in love with her work and how warm she is. I love getting ink from her she's professional, genuine, and sweet. She's also a VERY talented artist. I still can't believe she created my flowers from drawing first on my skin and then going over it with the gun. Everyone here is very accommodating. From all shops here in charlotte I feel this one is by far on the top of the list. They are clean, welcoming, and very accommodating. The guy at the front (Brandon) is great, easy to talk to, very informative and didn't have to keep asking the artists for clarification, it's comforting to know that there is competent informed Professionals that do amazing in every aspect of Made to Last Tattoo. I have had Jason Hanna as my artist, his work is FLAWLESS and he is all around amazing, Jason has tattooed me 3 times so far and I am amazed at how light his hand is and perfect his work is. My daughter and I were in Charlotte on a girls trip and wanted to get a remembrance tattoo for my mom who had passed this February. We searched and found Made to Last Tattoo. we were walk-ins and they were very gracious finding us an artist.
