We have been going to The Time Shop for over 20 years. The owner, Kingo, is very honest and talented. He will tell you if your watch or clock isn't worth fixing, rather than charging you and arms and a leg. He'll tell you to buy a new one, because it would be cheaper. If it's sentimental to you though, he'll be happy to fix it. His prices are very fair. We moved to Las Vegas now, but when we go back to CA to visit family and friends, we bring our watches to him to repair, size a watch band, or just to replace a battery. This place is a gem. Kingo is the best. I bought my first watch way back around 1989. He still replaces the battery for free. Since then I have bought three eco drive citizens from there and still have them. I hate selling things. He also services other pieces I have that I bought private party. This is the only place I trust to work on my more expensive pieces. He also reconditioned a Spanish grandfather clock I inherited from the Philippines. I highly recommend the Time Shop. By the way. I found this watch shop on Yelp based on the great reviews I took my business watches I had over ten years it's a beautiful watch and one of the batteries had went out awhile ago it had leaked from the bad battery he had cleaned it and installed a new battery and it was like brand new again. This proprietor is a bit odd. I've taken a few watches in to have them serviced and he's refused to do so a few times. I had a 7750-based chronograph that didn't zero at one of the subdials and he refused to work on it. He said, "that's good enough, it's not a Rolex." For anyone not versed in horology, it was a stopwatch function - the whole point of that sort of watch is to use it to accurately time events. I asked him a few times if he would work on it and finally he said "No." Another time, I had a vintage Elgin watch that needed work. He took a shine to that watch and movement and worked on it. It was good work and the watch worked fine after that. The next time, I took a kinetic-based Miyota movement watch in for service for a battery (kinetic capacitor) change. He works on Seiko Kinetic movements, and again, he refused to work on it. He said, "send it back to the manufacturer." It was well out of warranty and I told him I doubted that the manufacturer would work on it. It was a simple switch for the battery, but he refused to work on it. Again. Another time, I had a watch that needed a regulation and/or service. Again, he said, "it's not a Rolex, that's good enough" even though it was off by 10-20 minutes per day. Basically, he seems to work on watches he has an interest in. If it's something he has no interest in, then he'll turn you away. Very odd, and difficult a person to deal with. I'm not an amateur, as regards, watch collecting. I've been collecting watches, seriously, since the mid-90's, and have over 25 watches in my collection, currently. I've been a member of TimeZone, WatchUSeek, Paneristi.com, and other internet sites since that the late 90's. I've dealt with other watchmakers from Montecito, Northridge, the Fairfax District in LA, and in Burbank, and none have been this fastidious and difficult. The watches I own, or have owned, include brands like Panerai, Omega, vintage Elgin, vintage Eternamatic, modern Eterna, Jaeger LeCoultre, vintage Benrus, vintage and modern Hamilton, Tag Heuer, Breitling, modern Tissot, etc. The proprietor of this business is odd and a difficult person to deal with. I tried to convey that I was a customer who was serious about watches and would be a customer going forward, but to no avail. I may be wrong, but he might be the only watchmaker in Ventura county and this allows him to pick and choose what watches and customers he likes to deal with. Fair enough, I suppose, but be advised of that going in. read more

Mr. Uchida has extraordinary watch and clock repair skills. He has fabricated parts for my gold 100 year old ladies hunter pocket watch, and has kept my Grandmother's 1920s white gold Cushion face wrist watch in excellent running condition. Since I moved to Port Hueneme 20 years ago, I have enjoyed the care that Mr. and Mrs. Uchida provide at the TIME SHOP. I also love fashion watches, and Mr. Uchida is very patient about his process. !) he checks the old battery to see if it is dead, 2) he checks the watch to see it run, 3) he checks the battery charge he is selling you and gives it his personal etch. The service you get there is excellent. He takes pride in his work. I have been a customer for a long time and have bought Seikos from him. The problem is the Seikos last a long time. I have one my mother gave me for my HS graduation in 1967. Still working like new. Haven't had one broke on me yet. I too had a less than pleasant experience. I brought in a relatively cheap watch that had the time/date adjustor broken off inside. He told me it wasn't worth the price of the part or labor, which I respected and was grateful for! But then I showed him another watch that I couldn't adjust (because I'm super weak so I assumed it was my fault), and he just kept repeating condescendingly, "did you read the instructions?" I honestly thought I had. It's a cheap watch that mentioned pulling out one click to adjust the time/date, pull out one more click to adjust the other, as most watches do... But I ended up quickly gathering my things and reassured him "Ok I'll do 'that'" even though I still didn't understand what he was trying to instruct me to do. I still have to read up on the second watch, and am having to return and replace the first watch... but bottom line is, I super wouldn't return to this place for any watch repairs! Excellent service, products and attitude. Kingo is an expert and a gentlemen. Never had any issues. If you purchase a watch there, free batteries for life. I bought two Citizens. One is 27 years old and still running excellent. Had it in storage so it stopped (Needed sunlight) and I lost the manual so he reset all the settings for free. It was really complicated because it had a perpetual feature with leap year recognition. Fast, expert repairs also. Someone on here expected free service from him. Didn't get it and is now sour. Sorry, but my experience was not good. The gentleman was alone and was very rude to me. I took my own new battery and wasn't sure why my watch wouldn't work, since battery is new. He just looked at my watch, put the battery in himself and walla it worked! He wanted to charge me just for doing that, and at 1st I laughed and though he was joking, but he wasn't and when I told him why was he going to charge me he got ALLLLL upset and asked me to leave his shop...I LEFT!
