I've been hearing about this place for years!! Finally went this weekend and checked it out. When we arrived we were warmly greeted, all the employees were wearing masks, which me and my boyfriend appreciate. We ordered the stuffed shrimp plate with fries (DELICIOUS!!) , and a plate with catfish, fried oysters, hush puppies, fried pickles, fried shrimp and fries. I have always been told the catfish is delicious you have to try it ... well ... I did ... and gotta say .. it was not delicious.. The catfish was not crispy, very very very fishy, I couldn't eat it, the batter had absolutely no flavor I was beyond disappointed with the fish :( . My boyfriend wasn't AS disappointed as I was but agreed it wasn't great. However the fried pickles and stuffed shrimp are absolutely amazing. Thank you for the friendly service. read more

Starting off this place is what I would call a Mom and Pop shop upon entry. The hostess and waitress were very professional and we were lucky that we arrived on a Monday a little earlier before dinner. I started off with the special all you can eat Catfish with hushpupies and fries. The one thing I didnt like was the secondary seating to the left upon entry was dark lite and the walls had decor to drop down the sound waves. The place isn't much to look at but the food makes up for it. Hands down the best restaurant catfish I've ever had! And the onion rings! The size of a large donut! You have to use a knife to cut it to mouth-sized bites. So much for a to -go box was needed. Even cold straight out of the fridge at midnight it was awesome. Who would ever think that cold catfish could be that good. Dip it in the awesomely made tarter sauce was a treat! Will be back every chance I get. read more

This little catfish diner is in the middle of BFE, butt well worth the drive. There is a reason this place is packed on the weekends. It consistently serves ample portions of Southern fried catfish or calf fries! The waitresses are super efficient and friendly. Prices are moderate. I go to Bill's Catfish whenever I'm back "home" in Byers, Tx (just across the border). It's an institution in itself. Great catfish...the only catfish I'll eat...and wonderful tartar sauce, but if you're getting it to go they hardly ever give you enough to satisfy, and I'm knocking a star for that. I've been coming here for years and love it. However, I will not be returning anytime soon. Nobody was wearing a mask, including the workers. We got strange looks and heard laughing when we walked in wearing a mask. We noticed a worker roll their eyes at another customer who walked in wearing a mask. Bill's has been serving up fried catfish, fries and hushpuppies since 1962. I have been eating here since 1972 and I can tell you the fish is as good today as it was in 1972. The fillets are lightly breaded, crisp fries and man oh man....those hushpuppies....they are addicting!! I have also had the stuffed shrimp and they are amazing! I typically get a Bill's Basket with two seafood items and I always get catfish and stuffed shrimp. When I am done, I am stuffed!! read more

Don't go when you can't wait! We had a 30 min wait to be seated. It's a small area with pubic style tables, vinyl tablecloth, squeeze ketchup bottle and salt and pepper shakers. The staff is always running, but they do a great job keeping everyone happy. We got the Fisherman's Dinner. It has a little of everything and with this being our first time we wanted to try as much as we could to know what we liked, or didn't. First, the scallops were the best thing I've ever had fried!!! They were sweet and plump with a crisp crust that locked in the juice and wonderful flavor! The catfish was good if you like thin and crispy. I prefer thicker meaty pieces, so I won't order that again. The fries shrimp were huge!! They had a great flavor and crunch crust! Next we tried the stuffed shrimp. It was good. Small pieces of shrimp with a sweet thanksgiving type stuffing coated in a batter and fried. Finally the oyster...never again!! I'm an oyster eater but this was not edible. It was dirty tasting and real dry. Now for the sides, we had the fried pickles and they were good. Not too salty, which is a rare thing! The hush puppies were soooo good! The fries were regular frozen fries and the onion ring was ok. Over all we enjoyed our meal and will be back. We will be prepared for our order next time now knowing what we like! read more

We have a group of friends that regularly get together for outings to area restaurants. Last Saturday night, March 1, our group of 24 traveled to Bill's for their delicious catfish dinner. I had called ahead and made a reservation, but when we got there, as usual, the place was packed(after all it was a Saturday night & a cold front was blowing in, so people wanted their "catfish fix" before the next ice/snow event!) We had to wait a little for a bit while they set up our table-- but they did seat us all at one long table! We were served promptly by 2 wonderful waitresses(I'm sorry I didn't get their names!) Our group devoured the cole slaw, hush puppies, catfish, oysters, shrimp, french fries, etc. Thank you Bill's for your wonderful catfish, etc. and most of all to your wonderful staff.. I really want to give this place 5 stars because it has the BEST food ever but... I live nearby and have gone there twice and BOTH times the staff called me fat. I'm 5'10 and roughly a size 14 which is a little chunky but not big ol' fat fat status. The first time when the lady asked if I needed a box I said, "Yes ma'am, nothing else is fitting into this dress" to be silly and she said "Oh baby, you're not that big" then launched into a long tangent about how I should just love my body and not let what people think affect me, well lady the only one thinking I'm fat is you! Haha. Then tonight I went in, had my catfish, and when I was up at the register paying the cashier said that my outfit was cute and that "her daughter is heavy too" and she wishes she "would dress a little cuter" but it's "hard for big girls" sometimes and I'm like DAMN folks! It's probably not the best idea to comment on your customers weight if you'd like them to come back and keep eating your fried food! It just doesn't get any better than this. We showed up on Sunday when they opened with 20 people. They had a table ready for us and had us in and out in an hour. Exceptional service! I have heard great things over the years about Bills so last Sat I decided to get on my motorcycle and visit for lunch. This was the biggest letdown I think I have ever had. I honestly did not think ANY kind of meat could be cut as thin as Bills catfish. It was literally as thin as a potato chip. I broke it apart and could barely see any white meat inside. As I looked around everyone else looked the same. With no embellishment it was close to 1/8" thick (or thin). Maybe most people like a no meat catfish but not me. I won't be going back read more
