I was traveling through Wichita Falls and wanted a good steak and some family atmosphere. I found McBride's on YELP. I walked in just after 6pm on a Tuesday and the only seat left was at the bar, which was fine with me. There was live music playing in the center of the restaurant and a lot of families were enjoying their meals. I drank club soda and ordered a ribeye with German potatoes, which my server recommended. The atmosphere was great. A lot goes on at the bar so it was very entertaining. I was chatting with the people around me as if I'd known them. That's refreshing while on a business trip alone. My food came out pretty quickly. Yum. Steak was seasoned well and cooked just right, medium rare. The potatoes were delicious and reminded me of the vegetables that are often served with a Sunday roast in Germany (I actually lived there for 25 years). A restaurant does not have to be 'upscale' to receive a high rating. I did take away a star for the salad. It was just ok, pre-made and kept in the fridge until time to serve it. The romaine edges were dry, as were the carrots. The dressing was fine and I did eat the whole salad. As a matter of fact, I cleaned my plate. The guy to the left of me asked me if I was gonna post the empty plate on YELP with my review. Great idea. It turns out that the man was Ford Swanson Jr., the owner. I had no idea and I told him that. His response was, "I didn't want you to know." I guess he wanted to see if I really liked my food. The broccoli was, just broccoli. T had the shrimp trifecta, shrimp three ways, with some tasty onion rings and a baked sweet potato. K had the bacon wrapped fila with Mac and cheese and broccoli salad, all of which she really enjoyed. The service was quick, friendly, and the waitress refilled our drinks several times. Went here to celebrate our monthversary I had the super fatty baby back ribs with good sausage the meal comes with 2 sides I had soupy floury Mac n cheese and a great loaded baked potato along with a pitiful house margarita. The friend with me had a delicious bacon wrapped filet, loaded potato n burgundy mushrooms plus a beer and glass of wine. That meal was excellent!! Our waitress was attentive and friendly. I had the 8 ounce sirloin steak medium with a loaded baked potato. It was wonderful. My husband has the grilled quail and onion rings. He said it's the best quail he's ever had. I had a lemon drop martini with Tito's vodka, which was also excellent. There was a guitar player who played beautifully. A little bit noisy, but otherwise the ambience was nice. First I'll speak to the negative review left by Brent M. on 6/10, my wife and I witnessed the entire exchange and it was a huge misunderstanding on his part. No reason to treat staff how he treated them! Hate that he felt that way, he had clearly had a long day. The staff handled things great! We had heard mixed reviews so had never ate here until a couple of months ago and finally gave them a try; we were pleasantly surprised that even during their lunch rush the service was outstanding and the food delicious. We had the 8oz sirloin special on a Wednesday with the salad and fried okra and everything was cooked to perfection. And super affordable! Even their coffee was amazing. I came back in March 2025 with a group of ladies, a few wanting to try this business. The young lady who sat us Madeline, was nice. It did take the waitress about 10 minutes to come back with 5 waters to the table, we still had not ordered. We ordered our food and it took over 45 minutes for me to get a chopped meat patty and potato. People who arrived after us, had their food which is always agitating. I had to wait soo long that I had already requested my food to go and the bill before I ever saw my meal. My crew were in the Restruant almost 2 hours, getting basic lunch food, no big steaks and it took forever. Frankly I was not impressed, yet again. Weekday lunch visit, light on customers in the dining room. Our waitress was awesome, attentive, friendly and there when we needed her. The steaks were great, cooked as ordered, and the rest of the food (baked potato, asparagus, salad, etc.) was all good and fresh. The host at the front.... well, he looked like he just drug out of bed and was as interested in being there as the saddles hanging from the rafters. However, putting one person in a seat behind a large crowd and giving them minimal attention is not acceptable. Took a while to get the food and for them to take my order. Server needs a little more initiative with small tables. Do not just focus all your energy on the two larger tables you have. The food was excellent. It tasted really well. This place is fantastic! It opens at 5:00 & it is packed by 5:30. You can tell by the smell outside that this restaurant is legit. Bacon wrapped scallops were smokey but not at all dry. All 3 types of shrimp rocked! Ribs were just hanging on to the bone so tender & delicious & they can be served with smoked sausage. The German potatoes reminded me of my Grandmothers. The pinto beans have the perfect balance of flavors. The fried mushrooms are huge. I'm not a big steak person so you'll have to try that yourself. The ONLY reason I didn't put 5 stars is that they use purple onions in the soup & sides & they are just too overpowering. You lose the sweet flavor onions can have. You could taste the hickory. It was well seasoned and well cooked. The menu said they won't do anything above medium and they hand carve all their steaks in house. It wasn't the best steak but it was very good. The scallops were cooked perfect and I love scallops. Most of the time the only place that cooks scallops right is a Japanese hibachi grill. The drinks were perfect. We started with a full order of fried mushrooms. These were the best I'd ever had. My BFF ordered the sirloin steak, loaded baked potato, and dinner salad.
