Last night we took my mother in law to Pelican's for an early Mother's Day dinner. It was amazing as usual. From the grilled oysters appetizers, to the salad, to the main course, everything was perfection!! Our server River was adorable and as sweet as could be. My only complaint was that my shrimp brouchette was a tad salty for my taste but other than that it was delicious! We've been going here for several years. Usually on Wednesdays. We sit at the bar and have got to somewhat know the bartenders and front staff. I am always impressed with Josh (banter) the guy is an artist. Whether making a cheese dip, shrimp cocktail or a flat bread he is anal on making it look perfect. He takes the time to make sure each piece , slice or bite has everything on the recipe. It's fun to watch while he doesn't know we're looking. read more

Came here with some friends after a event. The service was slow, but the waitress was nice. The room and dinning areas is dark. We asked to move to another table, cleaned it ourselves and had dinner. I ordered fried fish, it was crispy, but it was salty. The loaded back potato was alright, but the cheese never really cold, so never melted. I don't come here too often, but i had good conversation with some awesome ladies for dinner while we were in the restaurant. read more

We visit pelicans at least once every other week. The food is just that good! My favorite is the scampi, but the salmon is good too. And talk about portions! You receive bread (although I wish they'd choose another bread) with garlic and butter, a soup or salad (the gumbo is DIVINE), and your entree which usually includes a side plus you get to select a second side. It's absolutely phenomenal. Service can be a little iffy, especially when calling in for reservations, but I will chalk that up to how busy the place is. I also know it must be hard to pleasant all the time, although it is important in a customer facing business. I wish they were open on Sundays, but I'm sure they have their reasons - perhaps to give staff a day off, but I can imagine they wouldn't be just as busy that day. Inside gives off ship vibes, which I'm sure is what they're aiming for. Definitely not fine dining in terms of ambiance, but fine dining in terms of food? Absolutely Oh and GET THE CALAMARI. I had the filet with a baked potato and my wife had the Hawaiian chicken with grilled shrimp and baked potato. Went for my birthday. Thought it was a fine dining restaurant based on the reviews and the always-packed parking lot. Was very surprised the food was just meh and my plate arrived with cold rice pilaf. Went again for take-out fried zucchini and it was so soggy and limp due to the packaging being closed and the zucchini being completely steamed inside. We took a couple to the Pelicans last Friday. We were promptly seated in a booth that we requested. The ambiance was nice, but unfortunately for us a large and loud group was sitting near us. As the evening progressed the noise level got louder. Our Server was very efficient and took our orders We ordered mushrooms for an appetizer. It was quite tasty and served hot with ranch dressing to dip them in. 3 of us ordered the beef teriyaki. 1 of the party had the vegetable medley, all the food arrived hot and tasted great. My husband and I were given gift cards to Pelican's. We were actually really excited to try out this restaurant. We had heard so many good reviews from our friends and family. We went for an early dinner and were seated immediately. The dining area was a little smaller than we were expecting. There was a big group next to us and a few other diners surrounding us. Our server was very attentive and friendly. My husband ordered the ribeye and I ordered the Hawaiian chicken. We had bread and olive oil to start with while waiting for our meal. We enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant, but the taste of the meals were lacking. As other reviewers have mentioned, I was expecting more than an okay meal for what the meals cost. Overall, our dining experience was good. We would not come back and spend our own money here. He was very knowledgeable about the food and palate's and recommended some great appetizers. I came here for a work dinner on a weekday evening. The place is quaint and nice environment. The drinks were okay/standard quality. The appetizers were mid grade. We had seared ahi tuna appetizer that was worth mentioning. The entree was just okay as well. I had ribeye. It was very disappointing especially for the price point. The flavor was sub par. I tried my coworkers catfish and it was also just okay. Nothing worth coming back for. The service was great, our waitress was helpful and accommodating. We came in under reservations for my husband's birthday. Our wait time was minimal, about 10 minutes. Kirstin was our waitress and did everything perfectly fine. Gave us a "market price list " upon request I was ready for some seafood. While we were waiting, had our cocktails brought to us. I was getting a chill from the a/c vent overhead. Sitting there waiting for the a/c to cycle off but it just kept running. I called our waitress over asked her if it would be possible for her to ask the manager to raise the temperature in the room. I explained that my scallops would get cold before I could finish and at market price ($45) I wanted to enjoy them. Hanna, the manager was very accommodating to me. My dinner experience was at a comfortable temperature. Thank you so much!! I would like to mention that the water was tasting like it was filtered through the sink drain or maybe there was a residue from the dishwasher. I started with a glass of ice was which tasted nasty. I changed it to a glass of club soda which I think comes from a dispenser which tasted moldy. I finished off with a bottle of sparkling water Overall we had a nice dinner. Based on their menu prices and some online photos I thought Pelican's would've been a really good restaurant but I was left a bit disappointed. Upon arriving I noticed they had plenty of parking and that it must've been busy based on the availability of spots. Once inside, it did seem very busy but it's because it's pretty tight up front which is where their bar is. The bar has very little seating but I'm assuming they're better known for their table service. I ordered a whiskey sour which was just made with sour mix and whiskey, I wasn't expecting anything fancy but considering they have pappy's, just using sour mix and a regular cherry and not making it with egg whites is a disservice. The bread provided was as hard as a baseball bat and was more like a long cracker. I had some raw oysters which were pretty tasteless and extra slimy. For my entree I had the filet with a loaded baked potato. The filet was pretty tasty and cooked to the perfect temp but the potato didn't even have the cheese melted. For a place that has $40/$50+ steaks I expected a bit more. Staff was friendly and casual but could've been a bit more attentive. read more

We had a few of us from work that met up there at 5 which was happy hour. They had lots to offer on the happy hour menu and I got a Tito's martini. The bartender did a great job, it was very good! I ordered one the specials they featured - hot honey salmon with Brussels sprouts and it was so good. The salmon was cooked perfectly and i have never had Brussel sprouts so good and so crispy. We were happy with the food. Disappointed with the service. Ordered the raw oysters. We usually order oysters at other places and these were ok. There are so many different types and we usually get blue points. They needed hot sauce to be palatable. We were not offered hot sauce. We also had to ask for plates for our oysters because they weren't offered. Our server seemed annoyed and kind of an ass for the entire meal. We saw other people get their bread before us, I had to get up and walk to the expo line to ask someone for bread. The smoked salmon was great. The lobster tail was huge. The chicken with mushrooms was delicious. We come for the beignets when we are in town and can make it here. It was $200 for 4 people which was fine but the manager spoke to the table next to us and never checked on us. Gilberto was quick to pick up the check but never thanked us or said goodbye. In fact we saw him again when we were leaving and he turned around and went to the kitchen instead of saying goodbye. I will never want to sit in Gilberto's section if I come back here. They weren't joking when they said that everything is bigger in Texas. The portions at Pelican's stood out to me, as I really struggled to finish my meal due to the quantity of food I got. I wanted some seafood when I was in Wichita Falls and Pelican's offers a good variety of it. Their menu is pretty extensive, so it has all the classic options of a steak/seafood restaurant. It's definitely on the higher end in town when it comes to price, but that makes sense considering the options. When they are answering the restaurant phone, they will put you on hold and laugh. If you're calling, they're more than likely laughing at you without you knowing. Ran across this restaurant by accident. I just wanted to go somewhere new. I was pleasantly surprised. I had been walking and was wearing cutoffs and flip flops and was afraid I was underdress, but there were many others dressed casually. The service was good. Our table was a bit small. There were two of us and our plates were so big, it was difficult to eat. We had the home made chips with blue cheese dressing and crumbles. They were great. I had oysters on the 1/2 shell. I'm from the gulf coast and was slightly skeptical about the freshness, but they were fresh and good. I also had the seared ahi tuna from the starters section on the menu and it was a large piece of tuna and very good as well.
