Stopped at this spot for lunch and it never disappoints! I had the Steak Salad. It was so crisp and fresh. The steak was cooked perfectly and was so tender! Billy's is a large bar located in downtown Anoka with an outdoor patio. Our experience started off a little rough as it seemed like we may never get seated even with a lot of open tables inside - it just took forever for someone to come and help us! As for the food, it was a bit above expectation as both the wings and Prime Rib Dip Sandwich were good. The wings might even rival those across the street at Serum's as they were much meatier and definitely had a solid buffalo sauce they use. Who doesn't love a good 80s feeling, carpeted bar??? Okay, I could probably do without the carpet, but outside of that, Billy's in downtown Anoka is a solid spot for a beer and bar food. Popped in late evening on a Thursday for dinner. Place was relatively quiet with a handful of bar seats open and plenty of tables. I sat at the bar and was promptly greeted and given a menu. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Ordered the "Fire" Bone-In wings which far exceeded my expectations. Downtown Anoka is known for killer wings (I will leave the bar across the street unnamed IYKYK). Nice sized and perfectly cooked. Super juicy, light crunch, easy pull off the bone clean meat. The sauce was delicious and had a solid heat level to it. I'm sold and will be back. read more

Solid dive with neighborhood bar vibes in the heart of downtown Anoka. Lots of free public parking nearby, which is super convenient. Large menu with standard pub fare and drink specials. Given its St. Patrick's Day I ordered a Reuben, which didn't disappoint. Was a little surprised at the $2 up charge to get fries instead of chips, but I may have missed a mention of that on the menu. My sister and I stopped in Billy's for our first time on Sunday. We sat at the bar and found the bartenders to be very friendly and attentive (even with us being somewhat indecisive). We had a few beverages, a margherita flatbread, and a side of fries. We have found that margherita flatbreads can be pretty hit or miss, but Billy's was on point. The fries were great too. Billy's is a dive bar through and through. When you visit Anoka and you're looking for a place to grab a cheap drink ($3.50 for a Jack and Coke during Happy Hour) and greasy bar food this is perfect for you. The interior hasn't been updated since the 90s and the carpet is definitely filthy after so much free popcorn getting dropped on it. This is definitely a place for regulars but there is a ton of space to sit. We sat by the bar area and our waitress stopped by frequently to ask us how we were doing. The drinks were cheap and the food arrived pretty quick. My recommendation? Go here to hang with familiar friends. This place is not meant for a nice night out by any means. The food is fine, the service is good, and the space is outdated and a little gross. It's all fine, I'm sure I'll be back, but don't make it a must-see. read more

It's a bar, so it has bar-quality food, but if you drink enough you won't care! Classic suburban menu that is far too large. Great little area to bar hop for cheap (a place nearby offers $5 Jack Daniels). I grew up in Anoka and decided to bar hop the area one weekend with my mom and a group of old family friends. Parking is easy. Street or ramp. You can walk to other bars, and because we weren't downtown Minneapolis, we could squeeze 8 people into each place on a Saturday night. Billy's in particular is HUGE. A historic "haunted" building. I ordered the Fajita Salad expecting something smaller. Instead I was given what looked like two full chicken breasts diced on top of the salad. So I would say you get good portions for the price. It came in a fancy tortilla shell with plenty of sauce. Perfect drunk food. We also got a round of their coffee cocktails. They came out room temp which was weird, but liquor is liquor to the liver so we moved on to the next bar. Lots of live bands playing on the weekends in this area of downtown Anoka. read more

I wish SO badly that I could leave a five star review, because nine out of ten times we have phenomenal service. Unfortunately, our server today was INCREDIBLY unpleasant. I don't know if this was because we brought our children in today? (Who were very pleasant, well-behaved, and polite) But she walked in the middle of my six-year-old ordering his food. She barked questions at us. And she stomped around like she would rather be literally anywhere but here. I almost asked if she was okay! Anyway, this place is almost always awesome. We had breakfast and my husband's steak was practically inedible. He could barely cut it with a knife. He informed the waitress but we were still charged full price for his meal. We have usually received excellent service from another waitress there and were disappointed that he wasn't compensated for his bad meal. This was the first time his breakfast steak was so tough. I had an omelette and it was dry and overcooked. In the past the omelette has been better so maybe it was just overall a bad day today. read more

On a beautiful Wednesday this week they opened up the patio and we enjoyed our lunch outside. Both of our meals, wild rice soup and half turkey sandwich, and club melt were good. Our waitress was also good. The beers were good. I understand doing your best during COVID but it's alarming to me that waitresses inside Billy's are allowed to wear face shields that hang down and clearly don't protect customers from them respirating the virus. Management should require real masks. Surgical masks are better and still allow people to breathe. Shields are for your eyes and protect the wearer while masks protect others. Worst experience ever!!!!! After waiting an hour for food they came out and told me they were out of the prime rib I ordered. And then my daughter ordered unlimited fish, but she didn't have time to eat it because they didn't bring it out. And then the salads and soup we ordered, came out after our dinner. The worst part is, whoever was in charge didn't hold them accountable. And then we had a woman come out with a baby on her hip criticizing us because I said I was going to give them a bad review. Ten years ago it used to be a good place to go. Food has gone downhill, service is horrible. The hostess is never at the station when you come in so you end up waiting until she gets done visiting to get around to sneering at you to seat you. After you sit at your table for 15 minutes you might get someone to actually stop to take a drink order and drop off menus. Then your treated like they are doing you a favor by taking your order. If and when they get around to you! Gave them 3 tries and they couldn't get their act together and treat us like they wanted our business. So we are off to other venues in the area that truly want customers in their establishment. If you do have the misfortune of going there, stay in the inbar area. I may not me a food critic but I can tell good from bad and there "hot,hot,hot burger" was one of the best burger I've ever had, with a perfectly pink inside, rich flavor, and melt in your mouth texture, it can't get better than that. although I did get fries instead of cheese curds but I didn't mind because the fries were pretty good themselves. another thing was the vintage ambiance, with the white floral wallpaper, and the glorious original roof tiles, it was surely a sight worth seein! One little thing tho was the service, it was fast and quick but the servers tone of voice was not pleasant, but as a person who gives the bene of the doubt I'm sure she's just having a bad day. I would give it zero stars if I could. My husband and I went there for breakfast on a Sunday morning. We go into a bar with two sets of customers sitting at a couple tables, on gentlemen at the bar, and two or three employees sitting at a table. My husband and I sat for ten minutes before the bartender acknowledged us. He took our order and ten minutes later he comes back and asked my husband Wanted again. Another five minutes later our 7up, and screwdriver arrived (so hard to rememberi guess). After he dropped off the drinks he hurried away. My husband and I had been looking at the menus, and the bartender walked by us atleast 15 times without even acknowledging us again. But he was sure busy taking the employees orders and chatting. We decided we were going to pay for our drinks and leave. I walked up to the bar and stood there for a minute or two before he finally realized I wanted help. He walks up to me and stares at me and says "yeah?" I said "my bill" he looked at me and asked what I had....really dude we are one of three tables and you can't remember what we had. He printed up our tab set it on the counter and walked away... I'm So sorry to inconvenience you with our business. Went to another local bar down in Ramsey and had the BEST service ever. The waiter looks at me like I am crazy, and then says oh well, I don't know if we have that or not? And comes back with something completely different and says, you must have meant this! He is just shrugging. We order and wait and wait and wait and wait and our food is delivered. My other half ordered the prime rib special. Rare. It comes out like leather. Not edible. Leather. Awful. So we wait and wait and wait for the waiter to come back. We tell him. Mind you there was a miniature bite taken which is how he found out it was awful. and the waiter looks puzzled. looks at what he wrote (sorry we wuold NEVER order prime any other way!!) and then begins to inspect the steak rotating the plate looking in/out it was like are you kidding me? Just take it away and no we dont want a replacement we just want it off th ebill so we can leave. oh no they still charge him $5 because we took too long to complain about it? What? okay call me crazy but Im not paying for something I didnt eat. Did I? Yes because I dont want them tackling me for non payment (because quite literally they did tackle a friend of mine-which is currently still being investigated!) not payment related it was just disgusting. This place used to be so so good and its a dump. Its dirty. puke on the bathroom floor and terrible service and the manager who apparently told our waiter to still charge us 5.00 never even bothered to come to the table. My husband and I have always found this restaurant to be one of our favorite places to eat, as he loves the fajitas. But all too often, we walk in, seated by a host/hostess and are completely ignored. Every single wait staff will walk by and will not even look our way. There have been times we have sat for well over 20 minutes and we have zero contact with anyone who works there. This happens when it isn't very busy most Of the time and we don't understand this. Going forward, we are unfortunately going to avoid this restaurant because of this. It has happened too many times and it's not worth the headache or frustrations anymore. read more

I keep meaning to come here more often to at least try something other than the Friday fish fry....someday I suppose. This is a nice bar/restaurant. The bartenders are always hopping and have a good eye for people looking for a drink. The tap beer selection average, but they do have Rush River on tap which is a plus. Another plus is they have pulltabs :) Wait staff is pretty attentive and coureous. There is nothing particular from what I saw on the menu, however I think they do a great job on the fish fry. They have a nice beer batter that sticks to the white fish and is not too thick, and it is all you can eat!
