Awesome little roadside beer joint that is definitely one of a kind. They have one pool table and some really big TVs.... Lots of neon and a big vaulted barn look to the place. Right off of highway 46 and it's always a nice crowd. The locals are very friendly and and everything feels very down-to-earth and kind of like you're in the 90s. This place is worried more about having access to the food truck than they are the patrons. It's 40 degrees outside and the have the overhead door open. Heaters not working worth a shit! This place has taken a huge nose dive over the past 5+ years even with new ownership. Prior to new ownership it was a place you could go for free live music, new ownership got greedy and have a cover charge. Wow $10 per person for a band I have never heard of. Even the bartender has to have a heater on top the cooler Wow, and the main band Jake Bush band played from 10:00-11-30 at a $10.00 per head cover. read more

Ended up at Billy's Ice after a family members wedding at one of the private event spaces in New Braunfels with a few of my family members you want to continue the night with. Billy's Ice was a spot we ended up passing as we made our way to the wedding venue in the day time and I made sure to "bookmark" it on Yelp just in case we wanted to keep the party going after the wedding. I really like how spacious Billy's Ice is as it felt comfortable walking in to find the patrons were about 6 feet a part and there was an open area/open patio space in the back. I was also grateful to hear and see a live band playing all evening as well as this was my first time seeing live music in over year (due to COVID restrictions). Bartenders were attentive and super friendly as well! We got immediate service as soon as we walked up to the bar. I noticed they had a shot special (Woohoo) and was feeling happy to just be out (after 1yr+ of having to stay home) and ordered 8 shots for my family. Shots went down super easy but definitely made us yell the shot name outloud after downing it! We did notice there was a food menu, however, since we came with full bellies from the wedding we did not partake in food but it did look good! Cheap beers, great service, ample space inside and outside, great cover band live music, and friendly bartenders can be found here at Billy's Ice. I will definitely be back next time we are around or in town. read more

Great ice house dive bar in the New Braunfels Gruene area. There is a dance floor and live music. Wanna catch a game there are TVs as well. There is a shaded patio with high tops. Service was friendly at the bar and at our table. Billy's has a good beer menu and they pour strong mixed drinks. There are shot specials and on the day we visited it was the Woo Woo (no thanks). You do see some interesting characters here and the regulars will tell you that Billy's get's packed on weekend nights. read more

What can I say. LOVE ME SOME BILLY'S ICE! As a local, it is my favorite bar in the New Braunfels area. From Austin to San Antonio, there is no better place to hang out with a cold beer in a spacious open air environment. Located across from Gruene Harley, Billy's gets its share of good natured riders, but being so close to the Guadalupe River, it's also a popular summer stop for (adult) "toobers" coming off the river. They are well known for packing the place on the weekends with great area bands that not just come from New Braunfels, but from Austin and San Antonio too. Great acts like "3 Man Front", "LC Rocks" and the "MaxBand" to name a few. Billy's has a reasonably priced full bar and all the beers you can think of slung by a couple of the coolest bartenders around, Kellie and Farmer. Pool tables, jukebox, live music, spacious dance floor, drinks specials, great location and fun people makes Billy's a THE locals favorite, come make it yours too! read more

Billy's Ice House can sometimes be a circus. Random walks of life make for interesting people watching. On a good night, you'll find live music, a laid back crowd (mostly locals), and friendly, quick service. As city folk, my entourage was looking for just that, so we dropped into Billy's and ended up closing the place down. We were the ONLY ones to dance all night (and trust, we are not that great at two-stepping). Basically, other than the live music we were the only people keeping the energy alive at Billy's. I was ready for a good time after hearing about Billy's. We arrived a little late and I was surprised to pay a $10 cover ($20 for my wife and I). We sat down with our beers and heard the last half of the last song the band played. They were done literally seconds after sitting down. When I went to ask about my $20 cover the folks at the front were gone. I mentioned this to the bartender only to be told he had nothing to do with the folks at the front. I think it may be a great place but this sure wasn't a good first visit. I felt cheated and it will be a while before I go back! read more

I have been here several times in the last years. Neat little place. Live music. Cold beer. I was there recently for a fundraiser event and the ice house hosted. There was great music from 12pm-12am. Wigs for Kids benefit, silent and live auctions. It was pretty impressive. read more

Really enjoyed attending a Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers concert here in November. The place is a little out of the way and gets a little crowded but was a nice place to take in a show. If they say a show might sell out. It just might as this place isn't huge for a good show. The service seemed adequate, so no problems there. The parking is cramped and if you don't get there way early you might not find a spot unless you park on the old dirt road out back. As well not sure if it was the owner or security but as I was waiting for an to get something signed out back he got a little pissy with me about the item I was getting signed. Really didn't appreciate the attitude when I was having fun and doing nothing wrong. I wasn't even drinking that night. Overall decent place to take in a show. I'm such a sucker for something different. This place is cool in the "I'm really not trying to be cool" way. Live music, lotsof outdoor seating, and cold beer. Big raised stage so you can see and hear from anywhere. Oh, yeah. I think it's built in a big ass shed. Roll up garage doors, concrete floors. We live in S Florida where there are NO Real country bars. We live part time in New Braunfels and soon to be living there full time. Sooner then later. We miss Billy's Ice. It's the first place we go when we get in Texas. We love the indoor/outdoor atmosphere. The honkytonk kinda feel is what We love. Be yourself and enjoy the music. The fries with their awesome seasoning in so worth the stop. None other. We miss the bartenders. Always fast and friendly. People there are real like us. The one thing I miss is riding my horse and rounding up cows. That's been gone for years in fl. Hope to meet people at Billy's with same interest. Not so friendly bar anymore. You have to wear a mask unless you are sitting at a table and I do mean SITTING. My sister was standing at our table literally 3 inches from her chair she had put her purse on. Someone working the door came up to her and said you have to put on your mask unless sitting. The chair was right beside her. This place is not welcoming at all and the people working there are more like gestapo than people there to serve you. I advice people to stay clear of this place . I really love going to Billy's Ice! The beer is the coldest in town. Great atmosphere for kicking back and listening to the great jukebox they have. But I can't stand all the dogs that they let come into the place now. I am allergic to animals and can't breathe when they are around. I was there a few weeks ago and there were 5 dogs, and I thought they were going to fight. Won't be going back until they stop allowing dogs. They have no idea what kind of lawsuit they would be facing if one of these dogs bit someone. read more

The bar and wait staff is always hustling so getting a drink never takes to long, even when it is packed.
