Two words: pizza rolls. These are some of the best cheap food in New Braunfels. They're absolutely fantastic. These pizza rolls are therapeutic. The ambiance of Calahan's is dive bar. There tables inside and a few pool tables, then some seating outside as well. It's not as Irish as the name would suggest. Pro tip: make sure you order far in advance. The last time I ordered pizza rolls, a Saturday around 9 pm, the kitchen was backed up for almost an hour. So make sure you're not too hungry! read more

Was looking for a place to get some good pizza in the New Braunfels area, and one came to mind. Calahan's Pub and Pizza came up and I'm so glad it did, it was exactly what I wanted. But first, depending on what is going on in downtown, parking can be tricky to find. Upon entering the establishment you find a pretty good amount of seating. A kinda of bar feeling but still welcoming for families. You have the option to sit in the main room or the side room with a pool table to enjoy. As you choose your meal you go to the counter and let them know what you'll have to eat. The personnel at the counter are extremely helpful and considerate, answer any questions you might have about the food you are thinking about. They give you a number that you place on your table, and as they bring you your meal again that cordial attitude is on display. After being treated kindly, the next thing is the food. And to be honest the food was brought out and going on the first appearance was very pleasing. Now the taste, I first ordered the "Housemade Dough Bites" at first thought I didn't think it was going to be worth it. But I was completely wrong, these bites were delicious, crunchy and very flavorful and the dipping sauce brought out the taste of the bites. The next item was some chicken wings in a medium sauce with ranch dressing and some celery sticks, they too tasted great, good amount of meat and flavor. The last thing was the star of the meal, the pizza. I got the "Butcher's Block" specialty pizza, and it didn't disappoint, the different meats and the sauce was excellent. Came two days in a row as we were doing am event in New Braunfels. First day I had the chicken Alfredo pizza and the second day I had a butchers block and pepperoni pizza. The pizza itself is awesome. Crispy, full of flavor, and freshly made. Prices are very good too. The issues are that the service is extremely slow, even when it was not busy at 2pmish. The bathrooms are horrible! There is no lock on the door so anyone can just walk in while doing your business, there is no toilet paper and there isn't even a toilet seat! I get that's it's a pub but to not even have a lock or a toilet seat is just wrong. read more

We were sitting at the bar and ordered food and was waiting when all of a sudden the security guard comes up to us and says someone in our party was "falling asleep". we came in and wanted to get a round and order food and go home. it is 10pm. all of a sudden we're kicked out and a girl with dark curly hair is yelling at us to get out. while we're outside i've never heard so many people complain about a bar. maybe have better service and stop being such assholes? even inside so many people said this place was their go to and it's gone downhill. our first time in and they kick us out for no reason. First, the food is pretty good. But, twice now we cancelled our food order because it takes WAY too long. Last night we ordered a salad and sandwich. After 40 minutes, still no food. Can't be that hard to pull that together. We weren't the only patrons looking around for our order. Until we know the kitchen is better prepared we won't be back. The pizza here is the absolute BEST! I've recently noticed I've been having reactions to the typical pizza chains in town...horrible stomach pain, my face would swell and get very irritated and inflamed. I can actually eat this pizza with no issues. It's not greasy, the dough is perfection, and cheese is just the right amount, along with the sauce is not too acidic. We tried the pepperoni and cheese pizza rolls, the Guadalupe and the Alfredo pizza. Needless to say we will continue to get our pizza here. Thank you! read more

My husband and I use to love this place, been going here for four years. Even went here right after we got engaged. Last night a bartender cut off my husband saying he was "falling asleep at the table" which was not true but we were fine with them taking his drink to keep the peace. After we got our food to go the bartender proceeds to get the bouncer to kick us out, mind you it's our birthday. One of the bartenders chased us out of the bar and we were just REALLY confused on what was happening, we have never been treated like that before in our life. I am in the service industry and usually see where people come from but it was the most shocking experience ever. The bartender that chased us out was short with curly brown hair, it's pathetic when then bouncer was holding back their own bartender and was fully understanding of our side of his own staff. Passed by people cause they were asking what just happened and even random people were saying that "the place has gone down hill because of the service" says enough. If you hate your job enough to act that way, maybe you shouldn't be in the service industry. read more

The place was busy on a summer Saturday night but they were getting everyone in and out efficiently. Some folks might say they were a little pushy. Sadly, I didn't like Cahalan's as much as I thought I would. First, you order at the bar for food no matter the time of day! Nothing wrong with this, just something different. We came on a Sunday @11:30, one of 2 tables at the time. It took almost 40 minutes to get 2 10 inch pizzas and 4 pizza rolls. I was not ready for that wait. The pizza was ok. I have had their pizza at my work before and really liked it, but I think the combo of my hanger and the long wait it made me not love the pizza. Also it was $3.50 to add mushrooms to my husbands pizza, which had we know we would not have done that. (Only knew after looking at the receipt) I also think I would have liked the pizza rolls more if they had more cheese! Overall, probably wouldn't go back, but if I do I'll update you! read more

Still on my mission to find the best pizza places in NBTX and this might be a contender? Let me explain. I was there this St. Patrick's Day and I got the margherita pizza. I'm not going to lie it was a bit disappointing. Not bad just not very matg considering they don't use basil but pesto. The pasto was a bit bland. Crust was meh. Still good though just not A game. Now I was told the pizza isn't what you go for, you go for pizza *rolls.* So I'll be updating this after I return. What the pizza did lack it was made up for by atmosphere and whiskey selection. The good news is that both are killer! The pizza here is very good. I would say the best in New Braunfels. They also have other menu items to choose from, but who cares about them?? Took a trip here to new braunfels to enjoy the river. Came across this pub and it was an absolute great place. Great atmosphere and the food.. amazing ! It seemed everything was homemade and definitely had a great taste and not overdoing it on the tomato sauce or anything. Perfect! To start with I really like the pizza. It is pretty good. The sauce is delicious, it had a decent amount of cheese, and I liked the hand tossed crust. What I didn't like was paying $6 for toppings, and hardly getting any toppings. You would think that for $6, you would get a decent amount of toppings and that it would cover the entire pizza. I don't think that 10 slices of jalapeño and 12 slices of green olives and a few pieces of pineapple equals $6. If it does, then you need to examine your food costs and find out why your food costs are so high. read more
