We decided to grab a burger before heading to the "Day of the Dead"festival in New Braunfels. Downtown we had several choices to choose from and we went with Downtown Social. We chose Downtown Social so we could watch some football and eat. Downtown Social is primarily a sports bar and event center, with a bar and restaurant within. First off, our beer was ice cold and we had two or three people serving us as we ordered from the bar and watched some football. Secondly, my bacon cheeseburger with loaded jalapeños was one of the best I have had recently. All our food was great. I am picky about burgers. When you order jalapeño's, most of the time they are over grilled. Today, I enjoyed freshly cut jalapeño's with fresh crispy veggies/ toppings and bacon. Downtown social has an excellent atmosphere and vibe to the place. A very open area with multiple bars and games to play like foosball, basketball, and ping pong. The place gets busy and packed so the service can be slower but that is to be expected. All of the food we had was great and especially enjoyed the Brussels sprouts, wings, and jalapeño ranch dip with the trio dip. They have all of your favorite bar menu bites and I don't think you would be disappointed with what you order. read more

This is one of those lovely places that you don't know if it is a bar that serves food or a restaurant that has a bar. The food is consistently very good when comparing it to restaurant quality eats. I stick to The Dude and drown it in ranch, and I leave a happy customer every time. The service does its best to keep up with the rush, which is a big ask. That is the only thing that holds back a 5 star review for me. That being said, It's good for how busy the place gets. Perspective is very important y'all. If the restaurant is packed, service is going to be slower, and the food is going to be good because crowds of people wouldn't be eating if it wasn't. I regular this place on Wednesdays for Brando's trivia around 7:00. The vibe of the night is always up beat and a pleasure to be a part of. The host puts genuine effort into the entertainment and the questions and this effort is reflected in the quality of the night! We were in the area and dropped in to find a baby shower being set up that took over an area of games and the path to the rest room. Then they were upset people were walking through, but really its the path to the restroom. We wanted to do some bowling, but the signup and wait was way too long. My first visit to Downtown Social was on a Sunday because I heard they have free games (including bowling), and happy hour all day. To be honest, I didn't have high hopes for the food, but was very pleasantly surprised. The jalapeño ranch dip with chips was yummy, and the cheese curds were solid. The burgers were good, and I enjoyed the sweet potato fries dipped in the left over jalapeno ranch dip. Best part was $3 mimosas that were a generous size - well worth $3 - and free shuffle board table. We didn't bowl, but plan to go again on another Sunday to check it out. read more

One thing I learned in our visit, do not go when they have trivia, unless you want to play! The sound system is SO loud, from the guy MC'ing to the intermission music, you can barely hear yourself think. I have been to DS a few times, but mostly for drinks. They have a large bar! Other features include bowling lanes, arcade games, a sitting area (for casual drinks with friends I assume), a large stage (I'm assuming they host some concerts?) and a decent dining area. The servers were all over the place, so I was sitting for a while before someone finally decided I was in their section. Foods I did enjoy; Brussels salad (if you like Brussels you will love this), and the fried cheese curds. Foods I did not enjoy: the wings (not crispy, strange texture, I've had better for sure), loaded fries (I would have enjoyed these without all the sour cream, for some reason I thought it was supposed to be drizzled with ranch) Overall, a huge place, nice place to get drinks with friends, but not sure I would go for dinner again. Just wanted to give a shout out to Downtown Social! My two kid's birthdays are in April and they wanted bowling parties. We love Downtown Social so I reached out to see what they could do to help accommodate our parties. We ended up hosting two birthday parties there, one at the beginning of the month and one just yesterday. They were so accommodating, so kind, and our guests loved the party! I worked with the event planner they have, Renee, to get everything set up. She was great to work with. We did it all via email so that was super convenient for me! They offered many different catering packages for their in house events. I chose the one that was 8 pizzas. That was perfect for a kids birthday party! Plus, the pizza is delicious!! (And I feel the need to mention my all time favorite burger...the Green Chile burger at Downtown Social is the best, I sure did have one yesterday!) They reserved two bowling lanes for us as well as the area beside the bowling lanes for us to set up. They were just very thoughtful in what they allowed us to reserve in advance. It was THE PERFECT space for our kids (10 & birthday parties! (kids bowled one game, then had cake and presents, then some continued to bowl while some wanted to play the arcade games!). I just can't say enough great things about how great they were! Our waitresses both times were excellent! Yesterday we had Syndie and she was very attentive. This place has a great atmosphere and real potential! Great espresso martini decent bar food and could make a cool addition to NB, BUT they hire THE WORST "DJ" I've literally ever heard and he's there every single weekend and event they host. We live close and frequent Pour Haus that is attached often (awesome spot!) and are bummed out that we can't enjoy Downtown Social because the DJ is so cringey, overtly loud, and does not stop talking his ENTIRE SET!! More of an obnoxious "hype man" than DJ. Also his music selection is terrible! Doesn't work with the crowd in NB (hence why this place is basically empty compared to all the surrounding bars). We were there for NYE event but he was so SO terrible we literally had one drink and had to leave. We couldn't take his karaoke renditions of muffled rapping every other word loudly into the mic to literally every song any longer and chose to go to the outside bar for the last few hours of the night even though it was cold. This event was even supposed to be $10 cover and they just let everyone in for free because the place was basically empty while all the other businesses were packed.. should say something. Fun place. No Minors after 9:30pm. Service was great tonight. Wings here not that great because I like them crispy but the chicken strips and fries are just okay, nothing too fancy here. Bowling is $40/hr after 7pm on the weekends so make sure you have at least 4 of ya to split that up. There is a shoe rental fee as well. Easy access from the street. I have lived here for 25 years, I live in Houston now. I came to visit my family and asked for a song request. The DJ on 09-21-24, Kicked us out for asking to play a song. He told me it would cost me 50$, and I said "really, where's the original DJ". (Because we are really good friends with the original DJ). Actually had plans to eat at another place but they close early. So stumbled upon this place. I'm not going to lie I was like gross it's a college kid place with a paper menu and crappy kid food. I WAS WRONG! I had 3 blue Hawaiian drinks they were WONDERFUL. I had a Ceasar salad just cause I wasn't feeling like pizza. You guys it was GOOD! We had the dip and chips too. Comes with 3 dips, salsa, artichoke and cheese... AMAZING I honestly can't pick a favorite. My friend had the pizza and a burger he loved it.! While I didn't try any of the food (it all sounded amazing), this place was alright. Definitely something New Braunfels needed. A HUGE indoor space for drinks, dinner, games on tv, bowling and table games (pool, shuffle board, darts, ping pong). I was a little disappointed at small amount of games for the size of the space. It wasn't that crowded and yet all of the games were full (besides bowling, which cost to play). We settled at the bar for beer and he Astros game. Upon reviewing the tap list (we are craft beer snobs) we decided on cocktails since the taps were "been there done that". Nothing impressive which stinks. The cocktails were good but the bartender seemed mediocre when it came to making them. She had to stop and think and pull out several bottles before finding what she needed (mind you- these were off their list). My first drink was under poured and topped with more ice. Oh well. Overall it's a great social atmosphere- it seems family friendly (I wouldn't guess at night). There's a patio and enough seating for large groups. Why is your establishment targeting certain people ? Y'all's security have big egos and think they can abuse their power by kicking people out for no reason. I was literally in line waiting my turn to get served when I was confronted by a sweaty and heavy-set security guy informing me I need to leave. 1st, let me thank my beautiful date for picking this spot for lunch. It was a great atmosphere with a cool temperature and very clean. We started with an order of fried cheese curds and red pepper aoli sauce. These things were amazing and weren't greasy like most places In down. She ordered the dirty burger, and the presentation looked amazing but she was too full off the cheese curds. ( Forgot to add the order of curds was huge for $12 lol). My eyes were bigger than my stomach as I ordered the Brussel sprouts salad AND MARGHERITA pizza. The pizza was amazing and the tomatoes weren't too soggy. BUT THE BRUSSEL SPROUTS SALAD THO!!! Whom ever came up with a soft fried egg over a bed of well seasoned fried Brussels, hats off to them!! My wife and I discovered this place last October and have been back several times. Each time we visited we tried something different from the fried pickles, hamburger, pizza, to the Charcuterie board and each item was outstanding! They have an awesome selection of beers on tap and canned. Their own concocted cocktails are also excellent, and we've certainly had our fair share. But, not only do they have awesome food and drinks the environment rocks! They have bowling lanes, video games, ping pong, pool, and a fireplace. Additionally, besides normal restaurant seating, they have sitting areas with couches scattered around the place. So, if you want to eat a meal and then kick back and enjoy some people watching or hanging out with some friends, you can do that. Oh yeah, almost forgot, they have TVs everywhere, so it is also a great place to watch a game. Anyway, we like the place so much I decided to celebrate my birthday there. The food was outstanding, we were able to catch the football wildcard games, and reserved 4 bowling lanes. The waitstaff, Brent and Lauren H. absolutely rocked with outstanding service. Went there for the first time last night and I don't think we would go back. The place is huge and looks like it would have an amazing atmosphere. BUT...The waitress forgot about us and when she eventually came back, last call had already been said for the kitchen. She wasn't very happy when we ask her to go and see if they would make an exception and was very short with us the rest of the evening. The kitchen asked what we wanted first before they would have even considered making something. What they did make us was below average... We were really confused as to why the kitchen would have closed at 8:30 considering they are open until 12. Found out they "close early" if everyone leaves after trivia night. Not sure how you can advertise midnight but close early when you think is appropriate. There are much better places in downtown NB to spend your time and money. read more

This place has been my "go-to" spot since I moved to New Braunfels from California. I was looking for a place to socialize and make new friends. Welp!! The staff ended up being some of my very good friends. Every time I come in I feel right at home. Venue: I love that they have a 6 lane bowling alley next to the bar. We head to Downtown Social once a week after our daughter's sports events. She loves it so much we even had her birthday party here. Bowling, arcade, and pizza is perfect for a pre-teen party.
