We went to Billy's in Krotz Springs on Mardi Gras Day. We have been here a few times before, and it was good. Not today. There were maybe 10 people in the store, so no lines. I ordered a hamburger steak and was told it takes 20 min, so I ordered a small burger no cheese. We ended up waiting 30 min, burger had cheese, and it was stone cold. I brought it back to the counter and ended up waiting another 20 minutes for hot food. The worst thing, though, is the attitude and demeanor of the cashiers. Most have scowls on their face, and it gets worse when food is returned. So, so rude. Their attitude, tone, and eye rolls were unacceptable. There were two nice people behind the counter, a blonde lady with a ponytail and a headset and a black lady. Grateful for them. The rest, though, really need attitude adjustment. Sorry, Billy's. Have stopped in here a number of times as my travels have taken me through Krotz Springs. The gas pumps are modern and clean. The bathrooms are decent. The coffee is only OK. The big appeal is the hot line with an array of hot, fresh-cooked, greasy food. The prices seem reasonable. All the things I have tried have been tasty. They have a freezer section where you can get boudin and other meats to take home. Never done that, but the boudin from the hot line is very good. Too many options on the line to begin to list them here. Timing a visit seems important. This seems to be the only restaurant/food stop/eatery in Krotz Springs, aside from the other gas stations perhaps. I stopped in once on a Sunday around noontime and the parking lot was jammed and the queue for the hot line was out the door. I have been by at off-peak times and it was quiet and things were fine. NOTE: Krotz Springs is a notorious speedtrap, especially if you are westbound on US-190. Watch your speed as you approach the town or you might wind up chatting with the local police. read more

Very disappointing. We drove 25 minutes out of the way in a storm for a truck stop. We were told this new location was significantly better than the small Opelousas location. It was bigger and had more seating. The food was ok. Burgers were added. We had several boudin options. Please see the pictures. The crackling we were told to try by a relative. I asked for a few and ended up with a small bag at 23 dollars a pound. What a ripoff. Had no idea of the cost. We tried a few and threw out the rest. Billy's is another reason to avoid the gridlock that is I-10 and travel US 190. I am beginning to hate driving through Louisiana. I could write a review detailing why I hate each section of interstate but I will save that for another review. The crux of the issue is traffic and I-10 anywhere near BR has plenty of it. So sometimes I avoid I-10 as much as possible and take 190. This was one of those times. Picture this; you're cruising along at the posted speed limit (don't speed here bro), and voices from the back say they have to pee. Seriously? We have been on the road about an hour and we already need to stop. I guess my dad was right when he told me one day I would be paid back for my randoness as a kid. Anyway, I listened and stopped. Billy's is well known in Acadiana for their long lines and pepper jack boudin balls (more on that later). Little did I know they have a store on 190 and it looks new, has lots of gas pumps, and clean bathrooms. That's a win/win/win right there. What Billy's also has is food, and what is a gas station stop without some gas station food? I decided I wanted some cracklins and pepper jack boudin balls. I've tried their boudin balls several times before and I may be the only person in america who doesn't like them. I love pepper jack cheese. I love boudin. Combine the two and you would think it would be a one way ticket to flavortown. You would be wrong. I think it is the act of frying them that messes them all up. Again, everyone loves them, but come on broski, boudin shouldn't be fried. The cracklins however, were crack a lackin. Sure there were some extra crunchy pieces I didn't like, but most had that soft piece of pork with the nicely seasoned crunch of fried skin. Hell yes. If you can't trace your DNA story to the Acadians you might not be able to handle this. Maybe stick with the fried boudin instead. But if you like cracklin, get you some. If you ask who has the best cracklings you'll get the same different responses. People are passionate as hell about their favorite place and will go to the grave defending that place. But everyone here, and I mean EVERYONE agrees on where to get boudin balls. Billy's has always held the title and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Billy's in Krotz Springs in nothing like the original in Scott. The recipes are the same but this location is hella fancy. It's huge, you can get gas here (and not wait for a pump because there are sooooo many) and there are tables too if you want to eat in store. It's nice, don't get me wrong. But I am a little old school and I prefer the Scott location. There's just something about it. Besides, boudin balls are best enjoyed piping hot, right out of the bag and in the car. read more

Everyone knows that Billy's is outstanding! We went through the drive through on a busy Saturday afternoon, and the person taking our order was very polite and efficient! We ordered 2 pepper jack boudin balls (pardon my French, but those are some great big balls ), 2 regular boudin balls, regular seasoned cracklins, and crawfish boudin links. All were outstanding! The boudin balls were huge and I love, love, love the crispy breading on them! Plenty of meat on the cracklins! The crawfish boudin could use a touch more seasoning, but very tasty. I stopped here not knowing what to expect but made a decision based on the many cars outside. When I entered I saw an even longer line of customers waiting to order hit food and some buying frozen meats and good. The menu advertised the usual Cajun treats. There was a selection of Boudin to choose from as well as crawfish & shrimp meat pies, egg rolls and balls I tried all of the above. Although interesting none of the food items were overwhelming to the taste bud. They were all average good. I begun to wonder how much of the business catered to locals versus travelers since many of those in line had coolers etc for transporting their items. I hate leaving them a mediocre review, but it is what it is. The lines are ridiculously long and they move very slowly. I will say the boudin balls are still pretty dang awesome! Found this location by pure chance as I forgot to try it before leaving Opelousas and glad I did! Now I'm no professional when it comes to food for Louisiana but it my eyes this was alright with me. Popped in and tried the regular Boudin ball which was rather tasty. Nice amount of spice and enough meat for me. Also tried thr jalapeno one as well and was not a big fan. For me the cheese was just to much. Also tried the cracklings and was not a fan. To much fat for my liking. I've been waiting for this thing to open for a while. I am on Hwy 190 a few times a year. I will usually stop at Billy's on my way West and grab some cracklins for Shari V and boudin for me. I am so happy Billy's upgraded and upsized! The new store is great. Granted I was there during a slow period, maybe 4pm on a Saturday, but there were a few patrons inside. The line was non-existent. They have so many registers now that I had my choice of teller to ring me up. So much better than the old store. As for the food, strong as always. I had 3 links of boudin and it tasted exactly the same...excellent. As for the gas pumps, no complaints. I didn't pay attention to how fast I was refueling because I was inside grabbing boudin. They had windshield cleaner and some squeegees which I appreciate. The new location will keep me coming back for sure. Although I didn't use it, seems like they have a drive thru. On my way to Shreveport, I noticed the building at the last minute and decided not to turn around but made sure to stop by on my way back home. My first time here and it's much bigger and clean looking then the one I frequently goes to while on my way to Houston. I was excited because I love their Pepper Jack Boudin. I grab a few to eat while driving back and some to give away. I also got a Crawfish Pistolette, two crawfish boudin from the freezer and try their chicken crackling. The pepper jack boudin doesn't taste like the one I always get from their other locations. Not sure because of lack of traffic and it's been in the warmer and it's old but the outside was not crispy and the filling was not warm and the pepper jack was just a small block of cheese. The Crawfish Pistolette is basically fried poboy with crawfish boudin inside. I like the concept of it. My big surprise was the chicken crackling, it was really good. I ate some and brought it home and threw it in the oven to make it more crispy. read more

Everything tastes great EXCEPT the regular and pepper jack boudin balls because right up until 2021, they were delicious as can be, but after 2021 up until just now after another purchase of 2 regular boudin balls and 2 pepper jack balls after not trying them for 2 yrs, it hasn't changed at all, when you want to sink your teeth into these expecting the warm meat and spices mixed with the fried outer crust instead you'll be lucky if you have 1 bite WITHOUT fatty rubbery chunks mixed with in the meat and spices, the crawfish and shrimp balls are great, no fatty chunks in them whatsoever, i'm very surprised that nobody has really complained or made reviews about it themselves. The employees all are great and nice, just take the fatty chunks out of the regular and pepper jack boudin balls, it's ridiculous to spend $14 just now on fatty chunks because all i could eat was the crust of the boudin balls.
