This is one of the worst run places I've ever stepped foot into. I had a scheduled appointment and it's been over 45 minutes and I am still not setup. The efficiency is non existent, the employees stand around doing nothing while the line just keeps getting longer. I'm even laying in a station and was one of the first ones in it, yet the employee setup 3 other people who got here AFTER me. Feels a little discriminatory but I don't want to jump to that conclusion but it's hard not to. I don't think there could be a worse run business. read more

I came into the center as a first time donor, was forced to wait in the waiting room for 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment, and then was deferred for having a history of PTSD. I spoke with the medical practitioner at the site as of why I was being deferred for a mental illness that I couldn't control, and the male nurse working essentially told me that I had no proof that i was legally competent to make decisions on my own and he was afraid I would lash out and attack staff during my donation despite not having any history of violence or aggression. The nurse in question gave me two physical questionnaires and told me my doctor had to sign off on my symptoms and severity of mental illness despite being alert and able to hold a civil and professional conversation with him, and proceeded to insinuate it had to be faxed back to the facility because they couldn't trust someone with a diagnosed mental illness. Mind you, I passed every other expectation and protocol, but as soon as mental health was questioned, I was deemed unfit and treated lesser than human by the facility and it's faculty members, and frankly, I only created a yelp account to warn any other people with a mental health history about this place. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone, even if you're mentally sound on paper. They're short staffed, ill mannered, and quite frankly, very discriminative towards those who don't fit the norm; I was looked up and down by several staff members for having tattoos, facial piercings, and for being androgynous in appearance. Also, they still follow old social practices of interrogating LGBT member's orientation and history on a digital questionnaire, so do what you will with that information. After all, gay people must have tainted blood, right? read more

I had high hopes for BioLife after my first donation experience, thanks to the sweet and comforting Mary Lynn. She was an absolute gem and made my first time donating plasma a breeze. (For the record, I donate plasma to help others, not for the money.) Unfortunately, my second visit was an absolute disaster. We drove 40 minutes out of our way to donate plasma and do some good, only to be met with the rudest treatment imaginable. I missed one question on the questionnaire because it was confusing--honestly, it felt like a trick question. Instead of offering assistance, I was screamed at to "slow down" and treated like a child. Newsflash: I'm not a child, and I probably make more money than the person who was so eager to belittle me. I don't appreciate being talked down to, especially when I'm there to help others. As if that wasn't bad enough, my boyfriend got a hematoma after being poked in both arms, and the staff didn't bother to inform us that this meant he couldn't donate due to the bruising. He noticed the bruising himself, but since it wasn't tender, we didn't think it would be an issue. If the staff had communicated properly, we wouldn't have wasted our time. To top it all off, I wasn't able to donate on my second visit due to a high heart rate--probably because being screamed at isn't the most comforting situation. The staff acts like robots and doesn't have a personal bone in their bodies. Mary Lynn is a saint, but the rest of the staff needs serious training in basic manners and customer service. The worst possible experiences ever. I would never go back. I wasted three different visits over 2 hours each visit. It was ridiculous! I attempted my first ever donation at the BioLife in Liberty, MO. The check in staff was kind as she verified all of my information. She sent me to the blonde nurse with glasses who was very rude and sent me away for not eating enough immediately before my visit. I had a small meal and had more in the car but she insisted that I had to reschedule. The front desk staff rescheduled me for the next afternoon, so I tried again, ensuring I had eaten "enough" for the nurse. After the check in process I proceeded to the screening with my lab stick and blood pressure, etc. everyone there was very kind and pleasant. All of my labs were good. I made sure to drinks lots of water to be prepared. I finally got through all of the questions and on to the nurse. I was hoping to get a different one of the three working, but no such luck... the same blonde with glasses called me in. I have never donated plasma before, and told her I was a newbie and nervous about it all. She was very cold and impersonal the entire time. I have ADHD, and of course told her that along with the fact that I did not take my medication before I had come, add this to being nervous and her refusing to engage in any conversation so I was tapping my foot and reading the signs around the room in between her asking questions. I commented on how chilly her room was and was just very short with me. I tried to look at my phone and she literally was immediately like "You have to put your phone away" very rudely. I was like, oh ok... because I didn't see a sign or anything and she was talking forever. She finally got to the physical part and everything was fine. I sit back down and she basically accuses me of being on drugs because I was fidgety "the whole time". I was caught off guard by that especially because I had already told her I had ADHD, didn't take my meds and was nervous.... Where did she go to school for nursing and NOT learn about ADHD symptoms? I apologized, told her I was nervous b/c I have never done this before and she wasn't very welcoming and maybe I slept funny because my neck was stiff. She immediately said that I couldn't proceeded. I was confused because literally everything from my blood to my blood pressure and physical was fine, so I asked for clarification. She was like, "You have neck pain so you can't donate". I explained it was nerves and maybe I slept wrong. And she said it did not matter, no muscle pain allowed and made up some bs reason. So I again asked to clarify. I teach middle schoolers and often have knots in my shoulders, and I play volleyball and may be sore the next day from the workout so is she telling me that you cannot donate plasma if I have any muscle pain from exercise or stress? She was very short responding "Nope". I laughed at her and said, "Okay" and left. I reported how extremely rude she was to the front desk. They did not seem surprised at all when I told them who I was talking about and they tried to reschedule me. I also refused to reschedule there because she is so extremely rude and they wasted too many hours of my time. Like I said, I teach middle schoolers so I am used to attitude, but this chick is just excessively rude and makes people feel uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place to anyone else. I did report the incident on their website but have never managed to get ahold of the manager. read more

This company is extremely poor in management and in providing adequate information!! I spent 3 hours on the initial visit. When it came to the physical portion , the nurse lost my information and I had to repeat the paperwork again . Not only was this becoming increasingly annoying after everything was completed they informed me that due to my healthy age of 70 ... I was too old. Now I needed a release form from my Doctor.. Fact : my age should have been addressed upon check in !! I gave them my Driver's License with a visible birthdate!! If these people knew there was an age limit it should been detected at that time. It's obvious that no one is paying attention. ! Prior to leaving I requested to speak to the manager . She was absolutely clueless and told me to read the Bio Life info online !! Insulting I I explained to her I did that and there is nothing that states an age limit!! She was awful , rude and uninformed and has no management skills . This center is easily the worst in town, given me multiple hematomas due to workers not knowing how to do thier jobs correctly. Workers won't listen to anything you have to say, even when it is something on your own body, they don't care and will ignore you. They also like to make sure you don't get your last donor bonus and will lie about your vitals, claimed imma heart rate was at 169bpm, yet when I went straight to my car from the door, tested it with my own monitor, it was only 72bpm. This place is a scam. Do not go here. Octopus ran and CSL are FAR superior centers. read more

I was completely blown away with the service here. You make an appointment, and just at busy times(when people are getting off work) do you have a very short wait. All the staff are personable and attentive and efficient. In and out in an hour or less. I can't believe this place has less stars than CSL in downtown KC where it is dirty, people are rude and unprofessional, and a regular donation can take at least two but could be 4 hours, due to no appointments, no organization. I haven't been to the Liberty locations sense January 2022 when, I was turned away due to a paper cut. The Techs that take your vitals are good and seemed to be well trained. But the techs the do the plasma / blood process, its a 50/50 if you get a hematoma or not & my vanes are large and exposed. Of the 3 nurses on staff, only 1 is friendly, respectful and polite. The other 2 seem to play on control and talking down to the patients. Or hate their jobs? I donate my time and driving from Lees Summit to Liberty isn't inexpensive so due to the common annoying hematoma or the negative nurses I will not be back. Corp management too, never enough staff and you could be up to 1 hours after arriving to get a chair. read more

Every once in a while I will get some bruising around my arm from donating. No big deal. However, the line to see the nurse can be as long as 2 hours. I waited 30 minutes without the line moving, with 8 people in front of me I decided to leave. I understand that seeing the nurse is first come first serve but an arm check only takes 2 minutes. It is very frustrating to have to wait 2 hours just for the nurse to look at my bruise. The physicals take very long and I suggest having one of the two nurses dedicate their time to the problems like these. read more

Yesterday was my first time ever giving plasma. It was a rather pleasant experience, and the staff was very friendly. I was able to schedule my appointment through the app and showed up a few minutes before my scheduled time. The lady at the front desk was very nice and I told her I had no idea what to do because it was my first time and she walked me through everything. I didn't have my ID on me because I forgot it at home, lucky I had my passport and they accepted that. I also don't have my paper social security card but was able to pull up an old W-2 on my phone and that was acceptable for my social verification. Needless to say I was very unprepared but still had an easy time getting signed up. After getting checked in I did have to wait about 15 minutes before being seen by the first assistant. She was new but still got everything verified and filled out in about 10 minutes and got my picture taken. Because I was a new patient I was put to the front of the line to get my blood and veins tested. All checked out good and I was seated to wait for the physical exam. I hardly got myself seated when I was called into the room, the nurse was very friendly and we talked and joked as we went over questions and the exam. Took about another 10 minutes and I was on my way again and put to the front of the donation line. I was seated at a station and greeted by one of the special nurses who take care of first time donors. She, along with all the other staff were very nice and always came around to check with everyone to make sure things were going well. She cleaned my arm and poked me and within about 2 minutes I was hooked up and pumping blood. It took almost exactly an hour for my donation because of my height/weight ration and how much plasma they can take. It was cool to watch the machine as it took the blood, separated it, and returned it back to my body. When the machine was on its last cycle it then pumps your blood along with saline back into you to replace the fluids you lost. Then the machine beeps and a nurse comes over and unhooks you, wraps your arm up and you are good to go! As soon as you are on the machine the donation money is put into your account which can be viewed on the BioLife mobile app. After this experience I plan on being a regular donor and going in twice a week as recommended. I am so glad I discovered this place and I love how easy and convenient it is! read more

The pay is not enough for our donations. They goes up to $115 then back down to $110 or less. It's not worth the drive specially who depend on this money for gas or food to feed our families. The wait to be screened is to long and then whe you do make it to a bed you wait 15 to 20 minutes or longer cause everyone is to busy talking about each other or their personal life. I can't afford to stop going like I said what little we get we have to decide what's more important gas to get to work and back to donate or groceries. That's my honest complaint. read more

I signed up to help others in 2021, this location in the evenings when I donated was at times understaffed. It was at least an hour wait every time. The 3 nursing staff that I interacted with due to flu vaccines etc only one was polite and civil, the other 2 were rude and had a power trip. I drove from Lees Summit twice a week so it would for, as the Independence location had bad reviews. My arms are very vascular but hematomas were very common & that along with rude nurses on staff was the end. I would not go to Biolife in KC, there has to be a better company in KC to donate plasma. Wait time is always at least 2 hrs. They have a big building but they only use half of it. They always seemed to be short staffed. Also, my appointment is at 11:40, i came in early to get the questions done. I didn't get hooked up to the machine till almost 2:00. The wait time has been longer and longer since i started donating.. kinda getting tired of it. read more

Always understaffed, today for instance, I get here at 10:35 am on Saturday, there's only one person ahead of me to be prescreened, yet I have to sit and wait for a bed to open while they only have 2 sections out of 12 open. The wait times just to have your initial finger stick have been increasing dramatically over the last couple months. I have had to walk out twice after answering the intake questionnaire, skipped going for a few weeks and have walked in the door only to see how many people were in line and turn right back around. Taking two plus hours to make a donation that should only take an hour is unacceptable. Having one person completing the intake when the line is woven through the building back to the door while people turn away, is a horrible practice. Aside from that, the staff is generally unfriendly and complaining in front of donors and across the facility about any given topic at the time - breaks, another coworker, the workload, etc. There seems to be a high employee turnover rate, which negatively reflects on BioLife as an employer. read more

So I originally was referred to come donate plasma by a friend who said that I could make up to 1100 in a month by coming here did my donation and was given a debit card that I needed to activate to access the payment in which I would've received upon activation I checked balance to see what I received and come to find out I wasted 3 hours for $20 what a scam I highly advise people to make sure you know what you're being paid and make sure it's worth your time and not a complete waste of your day read more

I have been to this location twice with my husband while he was donating and each time the people there have been very rude to me. Perhaps a little more training on how to treat people is in order. And if you have a policy you expect people to know I would suggest posting it on the wall. Upon my first physical and exam over a year ago, I gave them all of my history of tattoos and piercings. I was told by the person proctoring my physical that if it was healed totally and no jewelry was in, that it wasn't super relevant. Over a year ago. So after that I donated religiously for six months. Then stopped for six months because I got a tattoo touched up. Today, upon arriving I was given a physical (standard protocol for returning donors who have not donated recently) and asked to tell them my piercing and tattoo history. I gave all the VER BATUM information to the "nurse" doing the physical. I was deferred indefinitely because of a piercing I HAD TOLD THE PREVIOUS NURSE ABOUT! The same HEALED, JEWELRY -FREE SCAR that was looked past the first time, and I had donated after. This is concerning to me because the staff are not all in the same mindset with what can and can't "slide" (nothing should slide as it's relative to healthcare.) additionally, I had donated more than 20 times ,easily, after the initial visit so either I was giving faulty plasma OR I shouldn't have been donating at all to begin with. Also, if you're looking to donate for the money, it's really not a lot. It's more of a charitable act. I had started donating as I am a pre medical student and understand the need for plasma. I am extremely upset by not only the lack of professionalism and protocol, but also the lack of questions answered. Because in my mind, none of this adds up. read more

After the initial apt it usually doesn't take me more than an hour to donate. I like that the facility is clean and new. What I don't like is feeling like I am an inconvenience to staff and hearing the phlebotomists continually complain about who is taking their lunch break and when. I arrived at my appointment on time and followed directions from the front desk lady and everything was going smooth. Then once I moved to get my finger pluck as a reminder I have donated before many years and I have current opportunity to donate more now and would have loved to do so, but the man plucking my finger goes can you roll up your sleeves and sees I have two full sleeves and then tells me I'm not going to be able to donate because the people can't see where to stick me with the needle. I then get called to go see some nurse and she says the same thing. Since when does having tattoo/tattoo sleeves cause problem with donating plasma! I then put my hoodie back on and walk out the building embarrassed from the way I was treated. read more

My first 2 visits went smoothly, besides taking 4 hours as a new donor, but I expected that. my third time, the nurse (or phlebotomist i'm not even sure) literally went under my vein, knew it wasn't a good stick, and said "we'll see how long that vein stays happy". my veins are very prominent and straight in my right arm, there was no reason for her to miss it much less go UNDER it and walk away crossing her fingers it worked. Another nurse walked by and noticed i wasn't flowing, tried to readjust the needle, and ended up giving me a hematoma on my right arm. Here's the kicker, they tried to go in again on my LEFT arm, when i told them many times my veins are very tiny on my left arm. They tried anyways, with a nurse in training! You'd think after blowing my right arm they would get a more experienced person to try on my left, nope. I was donating during a promo- 8 donations and $850. I could only donate 3 times because of the incompetence that happened today. Now i'm out $500 that i truly needed and it wasn't even my fault.. Not happy. read more

The management of this facility should be fired, maybe if they spent more time on the floor making sure everything was running smoothly versus sitting in the back doing nothing to combat the clutter up front. I have been standing here for a hour an a half and all I have gotten done was the vital signs station. Yes, I walked out. The staff were all working hard and moving quick to try and make up for the extended wait time.... however the management who handles scheduling should be gone, not once did I see anyone of them out checking on the wait.... how are you going to understaff the facility when you have a booked day of people coming in on the calendar? Don't blame it on the promotions bringing in more people, you are understaffing and your employees should be ashamed of you! read more

They were very accommodating to me as a new donor. I felt at ease and respected. The new donor process is extensive, and I would expect nothing less given this plasma will end up transfusing into someone else who needs it. It's chilly and kind of boring, so I recommend a small blanket and a book. Other than that, the staff is wonderful, the environment is sterile, and the pay is in US dollars. Went in as a first time donor, fill out paperwork, do some quick vitals, vein check, weight, etc. At about the 50 min mark I'm told I can't donate because I don't have a prosthetic leg! They seen me come in crutches! They knew I was missing the lower half of my leg. Why waste an hour of my time? It feels like disability discrimination!!!!! But if I had a prosthetic leg I would have been able to donate. That's rediculous. read more
