As we were leaving, multiple regular donors told us this is a common issue here and recommended BioLife Plasma Services instead due to their better staff and overall experience. They offer scheduled appointments but there is no priority given to schedule vs walk-in. Staff are knowledgeable and talented and do their jobs well. Managers are present but the staff seem to know what to do without them. They are caring to donors and service quality is excellent. I have been to other centers and the type of care you receive here is outstanding. I would come here for the unique and personal care you receive here. This type of care has not gone unnoticed.

When I came back I had to fill out the same paperwork, go through the same screening, see the same movie and read the same folder I already had. They still were having trouble processing me so finally when I came back today, I was supposed to just cruise right to the front of the line... nope. This time the check in kiosk couldn't find any records of my coming there today to donate. So far I've spent 2 weeks just trying to donate plasma. It was a waste of my time. The Community Blood Center in Overland Park has always been able to get me in, process my paperwork quickly, provide generally skilled phlebotomists, and send me on my way. I donate as regularly as I can (once every 56+ days for whole blood) and it's easy to make an appointment online and schedule my donation around my free time. Plus, hey, free snacks! The CBC also holds frequent giveaways, like t-shirts or baseball tickets, and that only requires your time and donation. The CBC collects those life-saving donations virtually every day, sometimes even on holidays. If I have any knock, then it is about the process of 'encouraging' me to make an appointment. As a regular donor, the CBC knows that I am willing to come back in again and they make it a practice to notify me when I am eligible. By notify, I mean mildly harass (email, texts, calling me) and that's just too much for me. It's clear that they want my O- because all God's babies can use my blood! But I'm there to GIVE and the CBC makes that process as easy and as comfortable as they can. I love being able to schedule a twinsie session with my wife, do our giving, have snacks, and then make a lunch date out of it. You can do that, too, but bring your own significant other. The CBC has locations around the metro, but this spot is accessible, friendly, and waiting for you to give.

The procedure was extremely painful and left me with a large hematoma, significant bruising, and blood loss. I have donated plasma multiple times before and have never had an experience this severe or handled this roughly. In addition to the poor technique, Christine was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional throughout the interaction. I left the center shaken, in pain, and concerned for the safety of other donors who may be treated the same way. I strongly believe she needs to be retrained or removed from performing donor sticks until her technique and professionalism are properly evaluated.
